I learned my flip when I forgot which way to do a toe loop😂😂 and I actually landed it and my coach was so surprised to see me doing a flip!
+Donna S haha nice, it's an easy mistake to make. Well done for landing it though 😊💪🏼
You can always slow down the video speed! Just click the little gear on the video and speed is under "Settings".
Am I the only one that thinks in the beginning when he was jumping it was satisfying..? XD
Nope.
I FINALLY landed my flip jump back on Monday, after struggling with jump for over a year! I seriously kept two footed it, and I was actually feeling like I wasn’t “teach-able” with it. However, now, I have felt a huge relief! Even the last two times I skated this week, I landed the jump multiple times. I know the jump needs a lot refinement, but I am so happy about it in the meantime!
As a parent of a figure skater - thanks! The jump videos help me understand what elements are in each jump, the difference between jumps, and that learning them is HARD. Now I see the problems the coach is telling me about.
jorrdano Thanks, Im glad I can help.
Hi, I am learning to jump on my own at the age of 58. Last time I wore the boots were 30 years ago. Even at that time I was only done baskic skill 8 as a hobby sports. I am so glad that I came across your videos. You are proably the best teacher I have ever had. Your point by point demonstration and explanation is so precise and to the point, so I dare want to try myself. Your teaching method was extremely efficient. Thank you very much and I will learn from you everything as much as I can. You gave me so much confidence. Excellent teacher!!!!
I learned so much on youtube this year. I skated from age 10 for 9 years but the first 5 years we had no trainer at our rink so the bigger kids taught the younger ones (very badly of course) and now after pausing for seven years i finally got that scratch back spin and loop jump done after just watching some slow motion videos T_T it's really a shame we had no way of looking up all these things in the early 2000s. But at least I'm having major fun and progress now!
You're right. A lot of skating coaches haven't any idea how to teach. I like this guy too.
you'll need to get a new pair of boots, it can be very dangerous skating with boots that haven't been worn in 30 years.
pause at 4:37, adjust speed on 0.25, hit play. press ''J '' for rewind. :))
Flip jumps are so fun!
Excellent! Finally I could see the structure of this jump and understand how it works. Thanks!
Thanks for these videos, they really help to reinforce what my coach is teaching me, it's really helpful to be able to pause and rewind as sometimes when the coach does something it's really fast and I get confused. My loop still isn't great and I'm finding the flip impossible at the moment. I always end up putting my other foot down as a cheat to support myself. Will keep practising!
I was struggling but this really helped! Just got it!
Hello new sub!!! Love how u demonstrate not once but a couple of times to explain and show us how u do it . That's very great ! Especially when u zoom in the toe pick . That's very helpful .can't wait to see more and I will go back to watch ur older videos as well I am trying to learn Salchow but I got so confused after that 3 turn lol ... Thanks again for teaching us x
great job breaking down the jump cheers
Thank you very much. I am learning this jump now.
Amazing
After 2 weeks of hardcore training I finally managed to land my flip jump sure it need to be refined and perfected but im definitely happy with my results and my progress since I’ve only been seriously skating for about 4 months 5 in October so far i feel like im doing pretty good I’ve got my waltz, salchow, and flip now im gonna move on to the loop 😁
I've got a good salchow and a good loop, but I've been stuck on this jump for the better part of a year. My coaches say it's a problem with timing. I can't seem to get the snap up with the free leg, so I'm not rotating fast enough to get all of the way around. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?
Elizabeth Ozorak Try and pivot a little on the toe before leaving the ice, very similar to the loop but without the blade making an edge.
THINICE Thanks, I'm working on that. This is all part of the timing that I haven't got yet. :-(
Elizabeth Ozorak I am stuck on my flip jump too
How come there is no one there do u come early or something
No good tutorials on brackets online so please do a tutorial. Also would like to see lutz and axel tutorials. Would also be good to have off ice tutorials for jumps. Thanks!!!
+cherylskates I will try and do them soon, also I uploaded a Lutz video not long ago, and hopefully my next video will be axel.
Great video! Thanks for posting. Its a jump that I need to master. Trying to focus on entry and take off.
+Diana Thakur Have you mastered it yet?
+THINICE I am working on it, I have done a few nice jumps, but some how (call me crazy) when I jump it feels like I am not jumping/rotating? I will post one soon
Thank you so much for this video!
+Black Magic No problem :)
I'm going to practice this next time I go to the rink..
Your videos are so helpful! Please do a tutorial for the lutz and axel. Thank you so much! C:
+Karen Li I uploaded a lutz video not log ago, and I will be doing axel soon :)
How much effort does the tapping leg put into the actual launch of the jump relative to the skating leg? Had Issues hammering the toe into the ice resulting in black toe nails back in the day.
Hi, so is the main tip for getting the rotation on the flip to "twist on the toe pick" as you mentioned in your video? I'm wondering how much being on the back inside edge is supposed to contribute to the rotation itself, or is that just part of the jump aesthetic/definition? (your videos are awesome btw!)
I can already do this jump, but I keep falling, and falling is the way to learn!!!😄
Excellent video as all of them are. What would be really helpful is to do an outtake of the entire jump in slow motion.
There are other videos out there slo mo on the flip but your form on the flip is the best!
Thanks for all the great help videos
+Christine Glaesman okay, I will try and upload some more slow mo videos 😊
u know youtube have slow motion options right
Your beautiful thank you ☺️💕
In today's rules of skating they seem to be very fussy about the flip being on an inside all the way through the take off so that it's not a "lip". I was wondering if the left skate leaves a check or flag is that okay on a flip? It seems it would be as long as an inside is held, but I wasn't exactly sure.
very helpful. thanks a lot. :)
Jutiporn Chaiyaphak No problem :)
I prefer mowhawk entry and picking foot more open to allow for stability as you transfer at take off,
I Just posted my flip from todays practice. take a look at it...I know it needs work. ..help!
The flip is my least favorite jump. Unfortunately, I developed the habit of a lip. Any suggestions?
I'm confused as to why some people teach it differently. One coach said to hit the toepick and come around like a loop jump with your free leg in a H position. other people say to get your free leg over your grounded leg?
could you do a tutorial for rittberger?
I would have liked to see a slow mo - maybe a sequence of back to back jumps. More visuals please 👍🏼
i will keep that in mind, thanks
do you visit australia by any chance because i think i saw someone who looks like you
I’m having trouble with keeping my 3 turn straight (esp after the turn) any tips?
Florence Springle yeah thats how i learned it!!
Hi, John, Thanks for sharing your videos! I have a question concerning Flip and Toe Loop: Do you actually jump from the toe, which means you bend your knee and spring from the toe, or do you use the power to spring from the inside edge of the left foot (flip) or outside edge pf the right foot (toeloop). In shorter words: where do you get the power from and where do you get rotation from?
Looking forward to read from you, cheers!
+The AbstractName it's mainly from you toe but you do use your edge to assist with the jump.
+THINICE ok! Thanks!
Hi! Thanks for the vid :) Today something clicked in my head and I now have my flip (and consistent!). Btw, it is my third class attempting it so I am really happy. I need help with my axel... I would really appreciate it if you could make a video about it. Kisses.
Well done, I'm planning on doing one for axel next week :)
THINICE yayyy thanks! :)
What's the difference between the toe loop and the flip jump. They look the same to me ??
Penny Puppy for the toe loop you use the left toe pick and for the flip the right one. the toe loop is much easier and you get less points for it. the toe loop is good to jump in combination cause you can jump it out of the landing position.
I always throw my shoulders. How can i not throw it?
hopefully after watching this, I should be able to get my flip down after not being able to land it for the longest time.
I leaned a flip jump before a sal and a loop
hi I'm Paige and I'm a figure skater but..... I was a skater in grade one to 3 and I was in star 4. then I quit now I'm back in grade six.im in star two but I can't do my loop or flip very well like I could before my compation is on the 31st I'm stressing!!!!!!!
I would press 10000 likes if there is a super like button 🔘
How do you jump so high?
literally watching this because im trash for yuri on ice
AHAHA me too I wanna do Eros and Agape
Anne and Emma I started skating a year ago and then my YAOI club told me about Yuri on ice. I now have a Vicurri screensaver.
Anne and Emma yeah
Omg im sobin love in YoI so o want to do all of jumps- i can Salchow and Toeloop xD
Anne and Emma lol same
I can get the rotations, but I can't get my free leg behind me on the landing. My coach tells me to turn on the toe before I jump, but I don't know what that means.
+Valerie W. yes, I mention that in the video, Try and get your weight on your toe pick and rotate on it a small amount before jumping.
What makes this different from salchow? It looks similar to me
rockubabe your right toe pick is the last thing to leave the ice. Salchow goes off the left foot (if you are a CCW skater). But the flip used to be called the toe salchow.
When I jump double flip, I land on both feet and always under rotation. Advice please!
+Akirai hmm, Its hard to tell with out seeing it. can you do a video?
+THINICE Now I jump nice flip, but please upload double axel jump.
Can you please demonstrate the Choctaw please, aka Shawn.
Coquinsinge Yes I will do
Im only watching this because I sucks at my flip jump now because... who knows?? But I was really good at it. I guess it’s because I have more speed now or something. Who else had the same problem.
Can’t find your salchow vid?
Axels backspins spread Eagles plz
Logan Hinchcliffe I have done a backspin on, but will do another one for more advance. Axel and Spread Eagles hopefully soon.
I can't do flippp!!😣😣😣my coach said me that I have to keep my leg forward to the other but, I can't keep it, help mee!!😭
Axel tips :)
Lizzyfiguresk8ting Hopefully soon :)
Flying camel is what I'm going for so maybe some tips on that? Thanks!!
lady allicorn Yes of course :)
Axel jump please
+Giulia Guastalla I will do one soon :)
I'm too scared to attempt this honestly
IwillPeeOnYourCat Today dont be afraid to fall, it happens to the greatest of skaters (check out Yuzuru Hanya in 2014)
Minami Kenjirou it doesn't matter to me who fell already. I follow skating already and I know lots of people fall during their programs- but they're able to get back up again. While I was skating once, I tripped on my toe pick while doing really fast crossovers and I fell and landed on my back. I couldn't get up because my back was in so much pain and I had to have people help me up and untie my skates. After a lot of pills and sleep it got better but it's been 4 months and my back still hurts.
Dang it i can't landing
Its alice the evil one you had in badge 7😹😹😹
Hi Alice :)
THINICE .
