- The grieving grandfather whose granddaughter fell to her death from a cruise ship window recalled the moment he saw the toddler slip from his grasp. “I saw her fall," Salvatore "Sam" Anello, 51, told CBS News. "I saw her fall and I was just in disbelief it was like, 'oh my God!’” Anello was holding 18-month-old Chloe Weigand up against what he said he thought was a bank of a closed windows on The Freedom of the Seas cruise ship while it was docked in Puerto Rico in July. #InsideEdition
He doesn’t deserve jail time. He’s in his own personal jail and has to live with this mistake the rest of his life. My heart goes out to him and his family.

I don’t believe him that he didn’t know that the window was open. He was drawn to it because of the view and he leaned over the railing and dangled the poor kid outside the window and dropped her. Horrible and HIS fault.

My god this poor man... makes me feel the pain he feels. you can tell by the look on his face he feels completely numb and guilty of what happened. This man does not deserve any jail time knowing that he has a condition where he could not see the glass open and knowing how guilty he felt of what he’s done knowing he has no criminal record or anything and he’s a good man does not deserve any more suffering and pain.

We don’t really know what he was thinking at the time but the ship’s video shows him lifting the toddler to chest height, leaning over the protective railing and dangling her OUTSIDE the window for about 25 seconds before he drops her. Who the hell does that? Was he drunk?

I felt so bad for this man at first. Now? I’m convinced he murdered this baby for money. He stuck his head OUT of that window for nearly ten seconds. Also, he flat out lied in interviews. He says in one moment that he thought she’d be on the floor and that he was looking for her on the floor after she fell. But then in so many other moments he says he watched her fall the whole way down. Which is it?! Which is it? He KNEW that window was open. HE lifted her up on a railing. It’s entirely his negligence and honestly I think it was full on murder.

He got a really good view of Chloe falling. He lifted her above a safety rail and held her on the safety rail and then dropped her. The video shows just how much effort he put into lifting little Chloe over the safety rail. He is even seen looking over the railing and leaning over it to look down before calling little Chloe to her death.

That doesn't necessarily mean it would have been on purpose. It just would have been negligence. Which is what he is being charged with. I have seen mothers lift their small children over tiger and cheetah enclosements at the zoo because they don't think they'd ever drop the child. If one of them had dropped the child in there, it wouldn't have been purposeful, they just weren't being as careful as they should be with the kids. I think thats what happened here. He felt he could hold her there and not drop her and unfortunately he did.

His explanation all works, -until you see the video, which VERY clearly shows him leaning his head way out of the window himself, then bending down and picking his granddaughter up. He KNEW there was no glass there -unless he thought he'd been able to put his own head through glass...

The question is: what on earth was he thinking? How much did he have to drink?
