  • These are the video editing & screenwriting books I plan on reading in 2024. Plus, there are a few extra titles. And I'm reading them not only out of curiosity and the sheer love of reading, but because I came to the conclusion that my video editing and storytelling vocabulary and skills are pretty dang low comapred to what I thought. So I need more information.
I always work based on intuition. But there needs to be something more to help build that intuition even more. So these books are teaching me discipline. And here's how I plan to implement it in my daily routine this year and stick to the plan to get that 1% better. It starts with these books.

Hey Nice video, I'm excited for you and the journey you are embarking on to achieve your goals.
I myself have been editing for 16 years now and I am still learning every day! I am also using This year to hone in on story telling! And will be reading a few of these to.
Love that you are learning from books aswell btw. It's also my fav way to learn.
Can I recommend a couple of books for you to add to the list? (If you haven't read them already)
    GRIT by Angela Duckworth
and Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
I just adored these a lot and I've gotten a lot out of them. They are not related to editing at all but I felt you might get some value from them as they are all about perseverance, mind set and goal setting. Which you touched on :)
I wish you the Best of luck with your goals! :)

Thank you for the kind words! I haven't come across the books you mentioned, but I will take you up on the recommendation! Thank you! Always appreciate a good book and even more from a fellow editor!
Any particular book you are looking to start first from the ones I mentioned? I'd love to hear your thoughts! I just wrapped up Foundations of Screenwriting and am spending time with In The Blink of an Eye. Fascinating so far!
Good luck on your journey as well!
P.S. Your motion graphic skills are 🔥! I've been tinkering in Fusion with some simple ones, but yours are great inspiration!

Yes I'm actually just about finished a reread of blink of an eye. And was going to check out art of the cut. And I've also read save the cat and steal like an artist and enjoyed both. I've honestly got 3 books on the go atm and like 20 on the read list haha 😅
However I'm actually particularly interested in essay style story structure at the moment rather than script because I want to get better at passing on information haha.
Ive just looked up fusion and I'm shocked to say I've never heard of it! I do like that it's node based. Perhaps I shall check it out one day. 😊

Tell me about it! I'm reading a book for work in the mornings, then switching to storytelling/editing in the evening and trying to save some time on the weekends for fiction...and there's the backlog I have of started but not yet finished books.
I actually first started listening to Art of the Cut catching up with the older episodes, but I know the book is also really good. I'll be either jumping in it or Cut to the Monkey after In the Blink. Haven't decided yet.
What are some good recommendations on essay style story structure?
On Fusion, it's very interesting to learn, sometimes it can be intimidating because even if you say want to replicate an effect that someone has done in Ae, you gotta know your nodes and how to connect them. I've done some small graphics and even thought of uploading a short compilation on the channel. But overall I want to use more graphics whenever possible in certain videos. God bless YT tutorials for that!

@MyalismFilms I just skimmed a book called level up your essays. It was good. But It was mainly geared towards uni students.
There's so many writing styles! Everything has a little bit unique to take in. so I'm working my way through finding the decent ones lol

These are the books I plan on reading in 2024. The majority of them are about video editing or storytelling and screenwriting. P.S. Every resource I mentioned in this video is listed in the description. Grab them and go nuts! ✨💙
