"LOTR is the greatest book of all time."
    *creases the book spine*
Edit: You do you with your books, whether you prefer it partially damaged to show that you've read it a lot or if you prefer it in pristine condition no matter what, that's up to you. Me not liking to crease books is passed down from my sister who has various books, some just as thick as LOTR, that have no creases whatsoever yet they've been used for over 20 years. Every time she felt like I was about to crease a spine or page, she would lecture me for it hard. Just something hardwired into me at this point. My whole family does the same with every book they read. As for the argument that they are for reading, not displaying, is it wrong to strive to want both? Books that can be read frequently without compromising its appearance as an ornament. That's how I like my books.

@@edojaalexander But the first and second place are good examples of often sold but rarely read or at least read completely books. Where I am from almost every house has one or even two Bibles, however I only know of two people, who actually read them fully. Most just read small passages or just use the Bible to pray with, but don't actually know what it says. That goes for most Christians, as they often just repeat what they were taught, without ever reading it. Same applies in many cases to Muslims and even to Jews. Also the Mao book, had to be bought in China once for political reasons, but most people didn't or couldn't even read it.
Another example is Hitlers "Mein Kampf". During the Nazi regime in Germany it was mandatory to own a copy, but nobody ever read it. So it was the most sold book in Germany back them, but most definitely not the most read.

This has to just be English copies, because I could’ve sworn that Anne Frank’s diary is up in the top ten most purchased books since it’s been translated into so many different languages and it’s historically significant, the Bible and Quran also being up there for the same reasons and also because of how common those religions are
Edit for a few things: first, I apologize, I thought Anne Frank’s diary was up in the top ten. I misremembered something we were told in eighth grade. It’s around number 15 for copies sold and 16 for most translated books. Still pretty high up there but not top ten like I thought. I apologize for not double checking that before commenting.
Second, there was someone who misunderstood something that I said and apparently it was cleared up for them but I’ll also say this here to avoid further confusion. I was not trying to say that the Bible and Quran were the same or similar books, I was trying to say that they were both very popular because they are both from huge religions with lots of people following and practicing them, and both have been translated into many languages. Islam and Christianity are very different and I’m well aware of that.
Third, there’s some replies saying hateful things about Muslim people. It’s awful and it sucks that there’s still ignorant people trying to spread their ignorance and hatred, but these people are unlikely to change their beliefs based on something that a group of people in the replies to a comment online say. Save your breath, don’t bother arguing with them. Half of them are just begging for attention anyway and it will take a lot more than just a few corrections or criticisms for these people to change their ways.

@common_ studio's unless you’re talking about the few versions made that no true Christian accepts, no it hasn’t changed. The most common (and best) translations are all from the original text. KJV is good and still very common but the English is old so not everyone likes it. ESV is really accurate, down to each word, and the one I like to use, although I like NIV too. NIV is probably the most popular recently because it is accurate (it translates more in sentences if that makes sense) but also fairly easy to read.
The Bible hasn’t ever changed, unless you are talking about the different translations, which only exist because the Bible is so old that the English language has changed a lot since it was first translated, and it would be very hard to understand. Plus, a lot of people use old Bibles, so it’s really impossible to change because any small change would be noticed by millions of people who still have an old Bible. Someone at my church has a Dutch Bible that is huge from the 1600s! Obviously that didn’t change, and I think that is the version they still use today.

Sadly, many have done that. One reason I’m not a Catholic is that they add a few books (maybe add isn’t the right word: they include books we don’t). Also singular chapters haven’t been added unless we discovered a more complete manuscript or something like that. Keep in mind it’s really old and the Old Testament especially has a lot of copies. We can trust those copies because of how much attention was payed by the Jewish people in replicating exactly what the original manuscript said, but it is a problem as it is with all historical documents, although the Bible is probably better than most. As for the New Testament, everyone has the same New Testament. Another reason the Old Testament may differ is that Protestants use the Jewish Scriptures, Catholics think a few more books should be included. Also, the translators/historians/scholars/theologians were very careful in their selection of what was biblical canon and what was not.

Technically, the physical Mushafs (A book with the Quran written in it) have, like the mayjority of other books, been sold at mass after the printing press. But realistically speaking, the actual Quran itself was being recited and memorised in its entirety, from chapter 1 to 114, by Muslims since the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be peace.
So if you include the many many Muslims who have been memorising the Quran throughout History, it may well be the most read book due to it being the most memorised one.

Fifty shades in the young adult section is very disturbing because nothing in that book is appropriate for young adult (teenagers is my interpretation of that label).
