    the judging was VERY hard to comprehend this time, especially the (in relation) imo massive underscores of Chabloz, Rainer and Bilous (all their 2nd runs) as well as the overscores of Sauve and Wessel (both their first runs)

      I love Maximes skiing but this doesn’t score well because it’s all focused on the tricks. Big mountain should focus on the cool steep exposed line with aspects of tricks into it. Maximes runs are usually focused on tricks, he finds lines with good takeoffs instead of steep exposed big mountain lines.

    Wild run, and even more wild how hard every single skier threw down.
    People forget that "air&style" (the tricks) is only 1/5th of the judging criteria... line, fluidity, technique, and control make up the rest... It's probably a bit underscored, but it's also nice to see that skiing down the ridge and avoiding a lot of the exposure makes it tough to win no matter how wild the tricks are.

      I agree. But there is still something wrong with the score. I do believe some competitors should have their air and style automatically lowered once someone does a run with a double backflip and a cork (which is insane). IMO the 90 is deserved but some other scores are way too high.

    Honestly agreed with the judging here. Ben Richards, Hitzig, Turdell, MarcusG were all pinned the whole time. FWT isn't just about doing tricks, it's about skiing an entire line. Everything you do from when you enter the face to when you leave counts.

    And he got 6th place for it! Thank you judges 👍So it was such a sick run that FWT is highlighting it as a stand alone video on their CZcams, to celebrate how insane it was, yet the reward he got, was 6th place. This was a joke. Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah, it's called the Freeride World Tour, not the Freestyle World Tour. Still think it deserved a podium. The judges just don't reward Freestyle, Bilous should always judge higher as his style is off the charts. FWT needs to adjust their judging criteria so the "Air & Style" holds a heavier weight of the score. The risk being taken for double flips and double rotation spins is equal to crazy lines with crazy speed & bigger cliff drops IMHO. /rant

    • @powdork
      @powdork Před 2 měsíci +1

      But his line wasn't risky at all. The two differences between his first run and his second were that he didn't crash on the 7 and he eliminated his only big mountain move which was the drop into the couloir. If he had just one steep air it would have made a huge diference IMO.

    • @fk4410
      @fk4410 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Crazy freestanding moves are counting high bro how is 90 a low score? The problem is he had literally zero exposure and verticallity in his line. The landings were wide open, he didnt have to hit another feature shortly after. He went put off the fall lime all day long and didn’t connect anything really. Yeah freestyle is important thats why he got a 90. but to get close 95 you need a more complete run. Look at the exposure that hitzig took for example, his line was so much harder to ski, same with richards.

Don't think so but maybe could make the case because of Goguens unclean landing on the backflip. Maybe Maxime could or should have been 4th or 5th, but there were so many great runs, you would want the top 7 guys to be on the podium, but there is only room for 3.

  • @MrOmerDalor
    @MrOmerDalor Před 2 měsíci +5

    Well to be fair with the judges, it's the Freeride World Tour not the Freestyle World Tour.
    Its competitors took harder lines and were rewarded. Style is only a portion of Air and Style which is only 20% of the grade.
    Maybe the criteria will change in the future, making this wondeful sport even more spectacular!

    • @alexklick4836
      @alexklick4836 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Doesn't need to change. Some people are just enamored by people spinning, which is pretty cool, but if that's what you want, just watch a big air or slope style comp. This is about going fast and taking measured risk to come up with creative lines on big faces.

    I personally agree with the judges decision. It is an amazing run with the most impressive freestyle elements. But it’s not the most exposed, fastest, steepest neither the run with the most interesting line choice. If there was a freestyle event, or a freestyle reward he would have won it. But on the fwt, i find the runs that were scored higher than his more impressive.

    The judges should issue a statement explaining why this run did not rank higher. One thing all fans of any sport hate is unaccountable officials. Come on judges and FWT officials, you don't have to defend yourselves. Just tell us what the judges were thinking. This was a MUCH lower score than most viewers were expecting, but why? We assume it was related to degree of difficulty of terrain. If that's the case, then tell us! Don't leave us guessing and feeling bitter that an incredible run was not scored higher.

    • @highertest
      @highertest Před 2 měsíci

      Ill tell you, the line was extremely safe besides the tricks. He didnt go fast and smooth(compared to others) and he didnt go giant like hitzig or turdell. This is a freeride comp, not a freestyle comp. Its also crazy that they havent put Hitzigs gopro footage up, since he probably had the most insane line of the day.

    • @julesdubi4312
      @julesdubi4312 Před 2 měsíci

      He did basically only two jumps in his entire line, in the most safe and flat area of the venue. A 90 point run could have won any other event in the past. But in a comp where people are throwing tricks of very exposed features, hitting 5-6 jumps in their lines and going for much more steep terrain as well as going way more fast it’s hard to justify this run getting higher. Don’t get me wrong spinning a cork 7 and a double backflip in a single run is insane. He could get the freestyle award or whatever. But i think it’s fair from the judges

      There were a bunch of great runs in this competition. I'd say that the winning run was faster and more focused. In general, I can't really make out much of a qualitative difference in any of the runs over 90 points, which was a bunch of them in this competition.

  • @Mr_Dusty
    @Mr_Dusty Před 2 měsíci +3

    FWT needs to change the weighting of the judging criteria, to increase the percentage of the score given for the Air & Style portion, it's got to change. It's the only way the sport progresses. The criteria's shouldn't be equally weighted. They aren't in other skiing sports. For example, in Freestyle Mogul Skiing, it's judged at 60% turns, 20% airs, 20% speed. It's not an equally split percentage, as it shouldn't be. Each sport is different, FWT having equal weight in Line, Fluidity, Control, Air & Style and Technique is a flawed judging system and needs to be rethought, it's time to change as the sport has evolved. Why would the riders continue to do such high risk tricks if it's not rewarded? They won't because if they want to win, the current formula is don't do the most risky tricks, it isn't rewarded, crippling progression to the sport due to archaic judging criteria, it demotes progress to reward an ancient system. We need to promote progression and change the judging criteria!!!! Maxime got robbed. I don't care the he still got a 90, he deserved higher, he deserved at least 2nd. I dare anyone else in the next 12 months to duplicate Maxime's run difficulty, I want to see someone pull at double back & 7 in the same run, along with other tricks? Due to how difficult that is to do, it ain't gonna happen folks, it's so incredibly hard to do. So it's not gonna happen because others either can't do it or don't need to even try because it isn't rewarded, so why try? I wouldn't. This = death to progression in the sport. It's a shame and this needs to change unless for the next 10 years we just want to see straight runs off cliffs, which is cool, but come on, these boys are capable of so much more. I want to see dubs, switch dubs, along with crazy lines, fluidity, control & technique but FWT....doesn't.

    • @simon.annies
      @simon.annies Před 2 měsíci

      Come on, you are blowing this way out of proportion. The criteria have not actually been weighted 20/20/20/20/20 for a long time. For the past 5 years or so, freestyle has been rewarded WAY more than freeride. As Ivan Malakhov pointed out, in the past 5 years, there has been 1 run on the podium without a trick. ONE! That was Aymar Navarro in Verbier when he did that insane gigantic double, which was SO much more risky than any double flip or cork 7. If you just want to see backcountry freestyle, go rewatch the nendaz backcountry invitational. Tons of doubles there for you.
