- Hey everyone! In this video I will be doing an experiment with Permatex RTV gasket maker. On the back of the tube it gives instructions on how use this product. I'm chucking those rules and just applying, tightening and filling and we'll see the results.

Kids, ALWAYS use a crisscross tightening pattern. Somebody never taught this boy. Also, tightening to spec is great but so is doing so using multiple passes, for instance, if 45ft-lbs is spec, tighten all fasteners to 20lbs, then to 30lbs, then to 45lbs. An eccentric mechanic taught me this years ago. It works.
I recently replaced the transmission fluid filter on my wifeâs â18 Mazda cx9. There was no factory gasket they used some form of red/pink silicone. The new filter came with a rubber gasket.. it leaked almost immediately. I then found a cork gasket and switched it out and that one began to leak shortly thereafter. I then bought Permatex ultra red and followed the instructions precisely. Solid seal absolutely no sign of a leak đđ»đđ»
I use ultra black RTV and usually never have any issues.. Unfortunately when I was putting a new intake on my BBF 460 I did not follow to directions at all and torqued it down right away and fired it up about an hour or so later and sure enough it blew out the front valley seal.. now I get to redo it and follow the instructions this time đ
I did many gaskets but it was to hurry up and get the family vehicle running again. Now I'm getting into rtv because of craft and hobby. Interesting!
Great video. I've got to reinstall oilpan. Really glad this video popped up. I had planned to only use rtv. Gives me confidence it will work.
I laughed I cried ... Great video đ«Ą
From Buffalo, N.Y. Thank you for posting this informational video.
Awesome! I have a tube of each! I am going to rip off my wife's oil and transmission pans tomorrow! No, not really I bought it to replace small gaskets in an old WWII compass.
Great video. I just did my oil pan in my chevy somic 1.8l using permatex grey rtv silicone. I Will wait about 14 hours and not the 24 hours curing time before starting engine just because the oil pump suction tube is integrated in the pan and block and used the rtv between the matching holes oil suction passageway. We will see if the pump cavitates đ.
Oh wow that's cool
Excellent
Thanks for the lesson
Iâve used both and just double the cue time, if cold then I wait several days before starting it
Thank you So much! This is what I was looking for, exactly!!
@johncasor9698
@Doomzdayxx My stupid mechanic forgot the transmission filter and ripped the pan open again after was RTV and sealed ..then no bother cleaning old RTC and gasket ....just added some more RTV to fill in and closed it again after putting filter in. Will too much RTV like instead of 1/8 inch bead its more like 1/2 inch or 3/4 bead of RTV ... maybe even a bit more. then criss cross torque and we let it sit 5 hrs ..fill and drive,.. will it hurt the transmission too much RTV like that or the pan in any way? @Valley Mobile Automotive
All I use for air cooled engines is right stuff or gray ultra
THIS was a graet experiment
Dome trucks like the f350 dont make gaskets for the oil pan. Think they strted making one tho u can only buy online
Bad shit happens working outside especially in miserable weather
