One thing they mentioned in an Article is that all the God Powers are on cooldowns, so they can be used endlessly!!!
Good, so it doesn’t get this tempo push gameplay like it had before, that sucked so hard with this game and made me quit it very quickly.
It'd be cool if players had to buy extra uses of the god power with favor or even with regular resources. That way they can control the use of god powers making them still feel special, but also making it so players aren't too scared of wasting their god power.
@@lucyproue1288cool downs work better, it's a god or goddes choosing to reach down and help, the real important distinction is how long recharge is, and what will get changed to work, as is a masterbolt will be way tronger then a lure particularly after the the game has reached the heroic age
I really hate that call. I like the classic 'power-spike' vibe. I mean, I don't think it will be bad, it just... won't be AOM anymore.
Such a necessary change, one and done god powers might as well have never been in the game.
The first two Age of Mythology screenshots are the first and second campaigns. The first one shows the mission where you gather the pieces of Osiris, and the second one shows the final mission of the Atlantis campaign.
I assume the norse cave one is from the mission where you need to cut out a piece of Thor's Hammer. And the greek one may be from the final Troy mission (big walls and citadels).
The second one doesn't seem to match the final Atlantean mission exactly though as it looks like Gaia facing the generic Atlantean Titan rather than Kronos.
I would say the third screenshot is from the Norse mission 'The well of Urd', but they rebuild the map a bit different.
Not with a titan present!
How did they manage to get 8 SoO?
I was hoping age of mobile would be a better version of the old nintendo DS game, I would have bought that
I loved that Nintendo game!
That would have been so much better.
You would have bought that of course. But that is not appealing to some dude willing to p2w all of his fortune into the game. And I'm guessing that's the approach devs are taking on this mobile port. Such a shame but to be expected unfortunately...
using T9 keyboard is a pain but touch screen would be nice
i was expected to be something 3d
Maybe I'm the niche here, but I want coop campaigns to make a return. Over the last two years I succesfully took a friend of mine, played through the whole catalogue + every limited modded version we could find and finally he is open to try out multiplayer matches.
Many campaigns practicly scream for a coop version by design so it looks like the thousands of downloaded modded versions (with very limited feature sets) are not enough people to make the devs do that.
I don't think it's a matter of not wanting to, but likely of just not having the manpower to do it - given that they are supporting three games, working on a mobile port and the AoM DE, they are probably not running out of things to do.
Which might even be the reason why this particular DLC for II was slotted in - that would mean the people primarily responsible for designing and balancing new civs can work on the upcoming stuff for the other games, whereas Victors & Vanquished is mostly work for level designers (VO is likely done by a contractor given that AoE has no regular cast of characters with actors that you could keep under contract).
@@UltimateSpinDash minor correction, mobile is done by a different company entirely and is not a port, but otherwise you're correct and I agree
Sadly everyone and their dumb brother is all about their elos and PvP matchs I would very much like more coop too, but sadly everyone in a multiplayer game that has some form of PvP always wants more PvP then PvE
Steam page of AoM says it'll get some new content specifically for SP OR coop.

Was not expecting GiantGrantGames to be referenced in the comments but honestly hoping he does a playthrough of AoM or something since he's got a few months where there's not gonna be a lot of new Starcraft mods to try
My great sadness with the map pack is that it still doesn't have more coop campaigns. Had a lot of fun playing through them with my dad, but they never added more
You can find more coop campaigns from the original or custom in the mods page, But I do get that the game should of made most of the campaigns able to be played in coop.
I really think they underestimated the hype for mythology, because looking at that chat, it was blatantly obvious no one cared about anything in that showcase other than wanting to see gameplay for retold all of that time spent on mobile and the AoE2 DLC really just soured people's mood
AoE2 DLC in itself is fine. But not at that price point. It should at max be $10 without the discount.
Sadly all the money to be made is in mobile gaming, the fans want upgraded age of mythology but the shareholders want the cash cow which is mobile gaming
The only way this stops if consumers stop wasting money on mobile phone games
@@mosesgoldbergshekelstien1520its nit gonna happen. Mobile games bring in way more money at a way lower cost/risk. Im just scared that at one point the rest of the franchise starts becoming a cash grab as well. The aoe2 dlc being priced that high, is if anything an indication of whats to come....
AOE Mobile is a cash-grab so they wanna hype it.
aom is so cool, u have all those fantasy units
Never played Age of Mythology, but, of everything covered, that was the only one I found interesting.
Highly recommend you to check it out! AoM is pretty much the most fun game of the series because it can get really messy and overall it's quite unpredictable compared to the other games. Unless you don't like mythology, give it a go! The Campaign was also really good & fun. 😄
The most important annoucement yesterday for me was the 50%+ discount for the DLCs I didn't get earlier (Rome + Mountain Royals) for $15 total.
Yeah, 15$ was too much and I think they never discounted it beyond 15% before? I already grabbed Mountain Royals although I'm still not sure whether to pick Rome or not.
Rome wasn't even a DLC. It was just a cash grab to try and get the Vietnamese community to buy the same game for a 3rd time
All of those screenshots look to me like adaptations of the age of mythology campaign- one from the Titans expansion and most of them from the (much longer) basegame campaign. Since the chinese campaign was a standalone that *only* featured the chinese rather than integrating the various groups, you might be right that they're only intending to update the original game. it reminds me of the prerelease information for the warcraft 3 remake
They should just full on completely scrap the original Chinese campaign, I played through (and returned it) for the achievement and for people who haven't I am not exaggerating even slightly when I say it plays like an 2.7/5 star fanmade mod scenario badly localized to english through google translate. The story isn't even remotely coherent even trying to look past that, like a book with many pages torn out.
@ashfox7498 my first time playing it, the second mission glitched and my objective never updated so I couldn't beat it and had to restart that mission. The story was also so bland and forgettable but I do remember a betrayal. That came out of nowhere with no forewarning and also somehow also happened too early. I liked the vermillion bird mission (interestingly, also my favorite Chinese myth unit) and basically nothing else.
Scrapping the Chinese faction in AoM would be the right call. It was a poorly designed faction with a terrible campaign that was a clear cashgrab. If they wanted to add China in later they should start ground up. Would be cool to see some myths from Asia as a whole get incorporated in DLCs down the road.
@@ashfox7498 it definitely wasnt worth it.
I wont mind China being here, but it needs to be COMPLETELY rebuilt from the ground up. New campaign, units, everything. It shouldn't resemble the one we had before at ALL aside from, well, the obvious chinese aesthetic and I guess the names of the gods and stuff, unless they wanna pick different gods.
Or if not chinese, then something else. Would be nice to be able to get 1 new civ and not just be the OG game with a modern paintbrush.
That said, I'm whipped, I'm gonna buy it even if it is just the base game + titans with modern graphics lol.
It's not exactly adaptations because there's Tartarus spawns in the Egyptian screenshot and you don't get these units in the og campaign, plus I don't remember that mission having like 6 sons of Osiris
Maybe they tweaked the campaigns, would be a great idea since the balance was all kind of screwed up since enhanced edition, especially in the atlatean campaign.
That mission with Prometheus being sleeping in front of your keyboard easy but that mission awakening the guardian as Egyptian being extremely hard
I love seeing video game developers actually working with their fans.
I don't love seeing video game developers running out of ideas and resorting to just ripping off their fans because they know it'll take bout 2-4 years for them to all wise up
Really disappointed that they're charging basically a full price DLC for what is essentially 5 new scenarios as the rest were already available in custom campaign work. Granted, I hope this means filthydelphia is getting some serious compensation for all the work and passion he's poured into these custom campaigns but still the price point vs new content feels weird. Maybe those scenarios got major updates and are functionally new, but for a lot of us it's only 5 new scenarios. Other DLCs gave us 15-18 missions (with some being updated/changed thanks to new civs) in addition to 2 or more new civs. Granted, some of the stand alone missions have more variety and interesting mechanics to them, but still it's a bit strange to see that price vs that content. I'd love to see more campaigns to the point where basically every civ gets one and I'd happily pay for them but this DLC has me worried.
dudley, from Harry Potter? Is it you?
next time we will bring you not 18, but 19(!) missions
It's other DLCs that were too cheap.
Totally agree with you ,I hope this DLC doesnt seell as much so they realize they cant trick their fanbase like that, 15 missions and two civs 13 dollars- Now 13 dollars for 5 scenarios and bunch of details. Inflation is a question to be considered but this is purely a rip off
@@emilioglz.carrillodealborn9175 The one caveat I'll give is that if part of that price point is so that filthydelphia gets a decent royalty I won't mind it so much. The man has made a ton of content for free and that's given a ton of longevity to the game for scenario lovers. Idk if that's true, but the man deserves some good compensation for all his work.

Same. I'm happy the Chinese civ was left out of AoM. It was an awful expansion to an otherwise legendary game. Good riddance.
@@EricGonzalezM There were bad Forgotten/HD campaigns that got completely remade (or replaced) in DE. I don't want the chinese we got, but I certainly wont say no to getting the chinese, and definitely strongly prefer getting at least 1 new civ and campaign.
@@EricGonzalezM I mean a Chinese civ isn't a bad idea. I'd rather they redesign the Chinese than dump them. I'd want more civs in AoM, not less!
The civ design is really soulless.

I’m surprised they don’t do DLC campaigns for AoE 3. I really wanted a great northern war campaign for 3 when they announced Sweden….
They do have excellent co-op scenarios though. If you haven't tried them yet, you're missing out!
I agree
I was really excited about the campaign pack, but 5 new missions is very dissappointing. And thats not even taking the price into consideration.
Absolutely agree with you but in AOE reddit and some youtubers you get the ´´we need to buy it to support the game´´I think its bs, they are tricking us
@@emilioglz.carrillodealborn9175 "Buy it and support the game" is the lamest excuse. That's like claiming you give a parking officer a 50% tip when you get a parking ticket because you want to "support" your local cities roads and parking
I would love to see them add more actually playable real world maps where the teams/players spawn properly. For many of the real world maps, players spawn in bad/unbalanced places, making the maps unplayable.
Something to point out about AoE3: It might have a lower playerbase, but I'd bet they are more likely to buy the DLCs. Simply, a new civ in AoE3 has so much spice and different potential ways of playing due to the card system, revolutions, outlaws etc., that the perceived value and excitement for a new civ is quite high.
It's systems make it so the civs are uniquely multi faceted, even moreso than AoE4.
This would make a good case to keep supporting it, as the playerbase probably has a high % of turning into paying customers with each release.
AoE 3 is like AoM system with choosing gods. I get same impression with buildings in AoE4 when you go up.
I also think AOE2 is a bit tired at this point, like you can only add so much to the base structure of this game, campaigns and skins are imo the best way to monetize this game going forward.
The other games have so much variety and potential left that it makes it exciting for their future
Ya Aoe3's deck system and revolutions makes every civs so unique.
That if you change a deck build you're basically playing another civ!
I play aoe3 because I'm tired of aoe2 and aoe4 requires a lot of resources (so it doesn't run on any PC) and I feel it's incomplete, maybe in 7 years it will be better but for now aoe3 has become my favorite, the use of cannons and the variability of the decks are a unique experience. And I accept that at first it didn't convince me and now I love it.
Wow, as soon as they showed the overworld map i immediatly recognized the layouts from all these "base building" mobile games that are just dominated by whales. I hope they use the revenue to continue development on the other titles.
That was my thought too. I’m not going to spend money on it, but it will be a moneymaker, which I hope keeps things going for the other games that aren’t making as much money
As someone who played every AOE game that's come out... how to summarize my feelings on what was shown off here?
AOE2 - Was curious, then I saw the price. Ew.
AOE3 - Cool. New Civs!
AOE4 -
AOE Mobile - Knife me in the eye socket with a rusty bayonet, please, I think that would be less painful than seeing every mobile game ad that blatantly stole AOE assets get validated.
AOM Retold - I'd have found it nice to look at, had I not just been forced to watch whatever sort of chimera vomit I had just witnessed with AOE Mobile. Otherwise. Neat.
what aoe1 u think is needed?
@@AEGISAOE AOE1 is dead. Return of Rome was the nail in that coffin
7:00 I like how they make Gaia look more like a primordial earth deity this time rather than a kaiju sized woman wearing shrubs and flowers for clothes.
I always hated that. Kronos and Prometheus, as well as the 4 base Titans, all looked super grody and inhuman and terrifying, and then we have a skyscaper-sized artist's interpretation of Eve from the Bible. Very odd.
I'll still miss that old model. 😕 It's too bad it couldn't even be recycled to be a new model for the Dryad. (which NEVER made any sense to me why they looked like fucking Ents)
But don't get me wrong, I love Gaia's new model. Definitelly fits her power better!
@@dwell7315on the other hand the minor Titans and Ouranos all looked human, it's weird
@@nostalgicdouchebag1912 yeah, I was more talking about the in-game models but yeah all of the art except Kronos looks fairly normal. I'm not sure why they made him look like that, unless it's because he's been burning in Tartarus? His wonder is also baffling; the sundial makes sense but the giant pit of lava does not. Kronos is one of the most bizarre design choices in the whole game imo
I think the Kronos design is amazing as he's the big bad of AOM, it doesn't make any sense why he'd look so monstrous as he's not a lesser Titan but he looks cool and I like it
I missed out on AoE2 as a kid and only picked it up over xmas 2023 so my hype is off the charts for new DLC. Will all be fresh missions for me. Might have to pick up AoM too since I loved that one and could be worth a nostalgia re-buy
I hope they have plans for AOM Retold to have more civs in the future like Aztecs, Hindi, African and stuff. Having the same old 4 plus chinese, as good as they were, won´t be enough.
The game won't have Hindu gods because it's not an "archaic" religion; there are 1.2 billion adherents in the world today. For comparison: the game Smite had playable Hindu gods and it caused controversy.
Things I want to see in AOE2 DE:-
- AOE1 units available in AOE2 scenario editor
- Hoplites as a unique unit for the Byzantines from barracks instead of champion, there is not a single unit with a spear and a shield in the entire game.
- Make American civs able to build a stable and create xolotl warrior
- Make it so its possible in the scenario editor to make military units able to build anything
- Ability to change the timer for the monument in KOTH games.
List below might need balancing but I would love to see them included for variety
- Make it so we can train flamethrowers from siege workshop to some civs like chinese.
- Make a new expensive cav hand cannoneer available to gun powder civs, weaker than conquistador
- Make stepp lancer available to most eurpean/asian civs, but weaker than the civs that already have stepp lancer
-Make imperial skirmisher available to all civs and give the Vietnamese a new team bonus
-Make the minimum sell price to be 15 instead of 14
- Civs having unique textured units for the common units, example eastern swordsman instead of champion for saracens, berbers, turks and crusader knight instead of paladin for Tuetons. Make new textures for the rest of the civs. Make it togglable for people who want the same textures, obviously don't change the stats only textures so the game has more flavor. I do understand there are mods for this, but I would like something from the original game.
-the aoe1 units in the aoe2 editor is actually something i expected from the dlc, very disappointing that it wasn't there
-i think more civs should have unique champion and other unit replacements in general, especially the mesoamerican ones, they don't even have to have different stats, just a more fitting model
-i think that should only be an option if you have an ally on your team that can build stables themselves, maybe make it so they can "sell" the stable to the mesoamerican player in some way
-that would require all military units to have build animations which just isn't a realistic expectations, maybe make a trigger that allows units that can build things to be able to build specified buildings
-that's not a feature yet?
-having flamethrowers replace scorpions for some civs would indeed be awesomes
-i don't think that's a good idea but maybe for some civs, especially ones with bad cav archers, that might be a viable replacement for it
-i think the more logical solution would be to just give cavalry, especially the knight line, spears as they should have
-that seems like a bad idea
-maybe make that an upgrade for civs that struggle in the late game
-see above
I'll be waiting for the day the Celts burst through in AoM Retold
One day...
Though now that the game will be in steam, modders will probably go crazy with custom civilizations
@@Hawkknightthey can't do indian others might be fine
They do seem like the best choice for a new culture. Their mythological creatures are familiar and they could have a pretty different army from the Norse too with chariots, druids, javelin throwers and warchiefs. And a werewolf myth unit could be really cool, able to maybe change between being a common soldier and a myth unit.
I'd like to see Romans in AoM Retold. And Aztecs too.
Sadly they scrapped both civs and grafted their remains together to create the Atlanteans

Yep. It's called "creative bankruptcy"
Looks like most of the AOM screen shots are from the campaigns, at least they remind me of it.
Looking at the store page Victors and Vanquished is actually priced the same as Return of Rome in the UK at £10 😬
Thanks for the summary!
Honestly, I would have paid the 10 USD if it were for the 5 new campaigns alone. Each campaign (knowing Ramsey's work): 1. is pretty large in scope 2. is obviously of very high quality 3. has replay value.
Assuming a ballpark 3 hours of playtime for each, that nets a total of 15 hours of gametime. For 10 USD thats 0.6 USD an hour which is absolutely worth it if you ask me.
The mobile game looks functionally identical to War and Order
I feel like the lighting on AoM isn't doing it's textures any favors. it still looks good though.
Really hope we get an east asian theme campaign pack somedayz maybe throw in a regional variant unit too
I was hoping for a bit more from AOM:R
OK, they weren't going to do AOMII, but it does seem like they're pretty much doing a graphical overhaul. Maybe there are some new campaigns or something which would be good.
I suppose they could be updating the engine or something to allow for future development, so this isn't necessarily the last chapter.
Same here. Looks nice and seems to stay true to the original artstyle, but thats it. No new civ. Not even attempting to fix the horrible chinese addon, just left it out.
Seems a bit half-arsed. Real new content may again come in Dlc form later on.
For having quasi infinite money up the ass, microsoft really plays it save with the brand.
Really hyped for AoM.
The AoE2 one might be worth a try as well. I assumed that "19 scenarios" was Microsoft stretching the truth by saying that instead of "4-5 campaigns".
I won't knock on AoE mobile just yet, but so far it's looking like a generic microtransaction fest that doesn't do much different. But I'm definitely open to being wrong.

I've been playing AoM for so long now ever since I was a kid the game's graphic is basically embedded into my brain. When I look at the new AoM retold graphic it feels slightly kinda weird...Feels like they remake everything using AoE 3 engine. Are we sure Mythology is a Remake? For me it sounds like a Remaster. They said they improved the engine and gave it new models and textures.
They are using the Age of Empires 3 DE engine, so it is a remake.
If they are pricing aoe2 at 15 bucks then they should add in couple of Jacqueline campaigns too. In my experience they have been the best and difficult campaigns
Yeah I really hope AOM Retold is a proper remaster. Feels like the original did when you were a kid, but actually plays like a game you can stand committing your time to as an adult. Not that AOM is bad, just riddled with game breaking bugs and questionable design choices. Somehow still my favorite Age game just based on the concept of battling fantasy version of ancient civilizations with myth units and god powers. I hope there's workshop for it too. I really want people to mod in civs from all over the world. Ancient Indians for example, with the entire Hindu pantheon to choose from.
My thoughts:
-The AoE2 scenario pack (that’s what I’m calling it) is looking good! I’m just curious as to why they haven’t done those more often or sooner.
-hard pass on AoE mobile. Looks like yet another CoC or Rise of Kingdoms clone. Shame, since an AoE mobile port isn’t a terrible idea.
-AoE3 expansion is fine I guess. Not too much to say really.
-I find it interesting that AoE4 has more players than 3. Still, those new features sound like they should’ve been in the game on day 1.
-YES on AoM retold! As if my favorite Ensemble RTS wasn’t good enough already, now it looks incredible! Although I’m not surprised the Chinese faction isn’t shown on the screenshots since of how bad it is. Maybe it is still being worked on?
I agree with the AOE2 scenario pack, they should do more stuff like that
I'd rather the Chinese not be worked on *at all.* Unless they totally reinvent and redesign the whole civ AND its campaign from zero.
The Chinese from that campaign were just *atrocious* compared to the rest of the game. Like, amateurish quality on every level!
@@MrDibarai personally think that some of the mechanic can be kept but yeah overall it need a rework
They've upgraded AoE IV quite a bit since the lacking launch and I think the gameplay in it is actually very fun.
I honestly believe the real limiting factor to IV is just the art style and graphics. They really did not land well and now the comparisons to AoE Mobile can be even harsher. I'd love for Relic to basically re-release it with updated artstyle and graphics lol, the rest of the game is cool.

Return of Rome should've just been an entire new idea. AOE2 is between 500AD to 1500AD, RoR should've been 500BC to 500AD with brand new units etc, but with the AOE2 settings, engine, etc
I owe you many thanks for the good overview and summary
You talk much more about aoe3 than the actual presentation of aoe3
I want to believe, Prostagmabros...
I’m not being contrary, I actually am an AOE 1 superfan, but I’m glad everyone else is getting something 🙂
So so they are selling Free Content as an aoe2 DLC
That's what you do when you're out of ideas but still want revenue
I wish Total War devs were like this
So, it seems that we're still not gonna get any scenario which lets us play as AoE2 Romans? As the one who plays normally campaigns, it makes me feel very sad (no, AoE1 campaign isn't enough of a substitute).
Remember, RoR was just a gimmick to make the loyal AOE1 Vietnamese community buy the same game for a 3rd time. Having Romans in AOE2 was just tacked on as an after thought, hence why we didn't even get to play them in multiplayer properly until later.
Pretty clear they're out of ideas and just desperately trying to milk us
Omg!!!!!! No way !! Yes yes yes!!!
Age of Empires Immortal
w
People always forget there was a remake of the original age of mythology i swear to god😢
So the mobile game is gonna be the original AoE mobile from 10ish years ago just reskinned pretty much?
Finally we'll get Rise of Nations mobile
Well ok you watch the stream last night but was really bad because some choose worst stremer to showcase the Age Game New thong coming this year
Literally cannot wait for AoM
I just hope aom re is balanced, atlanteans were straight up easy mode
'Bout time AoE II got expansions that only add more unique campaign stuff and not more overly too adaptive new civs.
Even if AoM: Retold does become a triumph, they better not delist the original. There'll always be stuff in the OG that just won't get well replicated in this remake/remaster.
Idk man, rts on mobile doesn't really click with me to
Oh... i wanted the ds aoe port for the mobile
Ughh that aoe mobile thing makes my skin crawl
new mobile dlc : the skin crawler
Just looks like AoE 3 DE graphically. Not a bad thing though.
I would love it if AoM got rid of the Atlanteans and added real civilizations. Overhaul the Chinese, and I think the Celts, Slavs, Indians (or breaking it down more like AoE2 did), Burmese, Filipinos, and Japanese would be easy to throw in considering how many mythical creatures they have.
A hero has fallen
I can understand Aoe mobile being developed if not solely, then at least largely for the sake of being able to easier issue take down notices on phone games that rip off aoe 2 gameplay in their trailers
idk why they didnt made aoe mobile games before, mobile gamers > desktop gamers. Everyone has a phone and plays a game when has to wait in line for bus or something
I really think they are not letting themselves be fooled by AoM again after Definitive Edition was a bit of a failure.
Also in my opinion, AoM was a more casual version of the AoE franchise and that has less retaining power than a competitive-focused game like AoE2. It was the competitive scene that kept strong for years on Voobly, resulting in fan patches and content that would then become an official remaster.
AoM doesn't really have that strong of an online community. Everyone is nostalgic about it, sure, including myself. But most players will at most finish the campaign, play a few matches online and then quit.
The main reason for me not playing AoM DE was the dead online scene. I remember the original game had so many custom map lobbies, as varied and fun as the ones from WC3, but DE was dead since day one. I hope Retold can revive the online community of AoM or create a new one that will then fuel content for years to come, otherwise it's just going to be a repeat of DE
I've been tempted to buy the old AoM just to play the campaign again but I'm holding out for the new one
It's so strange... I noticed how common it is for big companies to just copy their competitor's model or look. I guess they are under a tight schedule to deliver profits and projects and that gives no room for creativity or trying to be original most of the time.
AoE mobile looks like an AFK battler like Raid Shadow Legends with Clash of Clans mixed in.
Definitely way more hyped for AoM :)
I just pray for AoM Retold to not have snare. Please. Please.
I’m glad someone recognizes “snare” as a bad mechanic. Having your units slow drastically whenever they are hit takes control away from the player. It also renders agile units semi pointless as they can’t easily disengage from combat.
I thought snares are great, you cannot h&r easily with ranged military (H&R is one of the things I hate in aoe2)
@@Shiina_LORD-Scarlet.sLifeGuard Snare is great in concept, but the current game pathing is not that good for snare to be implemented. Unit reform their formation with every move order, if only 1 is snared, the whole group is slowed even when reforming, ranged cavalry can easily escaped, but melee cavalry is guaranteed death
