One of the best things about the old Age of Mythology was the map editor, allowing us to create any sort of idea on a large scale. I do hope that this will be available in the retold version.
And cheat codes!!!!
It says "Includes level editor" on the Steam page.

99% this game will be a let down. Everytime they make old game remakes, they only slightly improve graphics and remove all special things that made us love the old game. Happened countless times

Please please please let this lead to a full on Age of Mythology 2. AoM was one of the best RTS games ever. It was so special, the music, the setting.
The screenshots of this game already look very promising, no need for AoM2. I don't want them to repeat what they did with AoE 3 and 4, most people still prefer the original AoE2 for example.
@@grubby5twage of empires 3 Definitive edition is insanely good. One of the best RTS ever! Could play it day and night. It has a lot of AoM features but so many things of its own. Age of Empires 4 is probably good but the goofy look kills it for me...

Magnificent! My childhood game back with an upgraded new look.
As a 3D games modeller I enjoy seeing the perfect concession here between beauty and practicality, you can see on the snakes of the medusa where the polygons have been rationed out but the aesthetic and shading carries it. Such efficiency is needed for a strategy game where models are gonna be spammed all over the place in the dozens or even hundreds.

@@condeuiosandilixtos7858 I noticed that too in one of the screenshots, but I don't think it looks bad. It don't feels like it gets to the point where it's overwhelming. I liked how, for example, the walls & trees still felt 'rugged' to contrast the brighter colors & more cartooney boulders, and units are faithful!
@@condeuiosandilixtos7858 It does, and looks like it has gone closer to the AoE IV direction than the AoE III direction. However I still think it looks quite good and remains faithful enough to the original overall.
I'm not enjoying the look at it so far. Very cartoonish.

Damn, that puts some new hope in me, that this scenario has been well thought out by someone who knows mythology really well. I was afraid that we would get graphic renewal and only this, but we know at least that there will be one thing almost completely new, i.e. the ability of the titans to cross rivers and oceans (almost new, because with the addition of "the age of the dragon" came cheat code "TITANIC" whih was adding this feature.

Bringing in pegasus after killing Medusa is very lore accurate haha. Since Medusa gave birth to the Pegasus from her dead body
I learned english with this game, now my child is going to learn in the same way as his father.. I can’t avoid myself to excited the same as in the past.. loading screen ❤️

Let's hope they keep, and even enhance the scenario editor ! Strong asset of the original AoM was all those players who made amazing custom Scenario to play online ! Cat & Mouse, Build Your Titan, Mutation, Gods Are Watching and so much more. Very creative pieces of fun that I wish we'll be able to create and share once again !

Well done guys. I think i spent the vast years of when i was 11-13 playing this game. One of my all time favorites.
This is the game I've most anticipated ever! I'm so stoked it's coming out this year and now that it's going to be a new released game, it will continually get worked on, get updated, mods implemented as well as Dlc's and more!
I was born in 2003. I learned this game from my cousins who are older than me, and when I was 12, I started playing the original. Now I am 21, and I am definitely gonna buy the retold version! Also, as a game developer too, seeing these graphics make me so happy!

Thought I'd search for news on this on a whim, after reminiscing with some friends, and got jumpscared by news only 2 hours ago! I like that they've thus far focused on going back to their roots & improving on that foundation. My faith in the dev team has increased a fair bit! Can't wait to hear more in the coming months. Take all the time you need!

Age of Mythology (retold) hype! Those 3 myth units look sick! 😃 Can't wait to see minotaurs & cyclops in action! 😄🥳
i was so sceptical about the art direction, i think they nailed the graphic style amazingly well. i LOVE how huge and imposing the myth units are now. the buildings look on point great readable and similar to the old game but still a lot imrproved.
also farms, trees and the giants look WAY more better now (in my opinion amazing) i honestly hoped we would bet cerberus as a myth unit and not a titan, but i think he looks WAY more badass now compared to the old one. (titans looked the goofiest in old AoM with the exception of ######### and atlantean titan)
statues of the gods look amazing.
i LOVE the colossus, minotaurus, medusa, pegasus, argus, phoenix, wadjet and fenris design SO MUCH. (also if you look at einheriar you finally see UPGRADES on units!)
finally titans can walk across water!
but i also have to point out a few personal concerns:
its a bit strange that some myth units got amazing overhauls like the above mentioned ones, but then others
again like valykrie, pestsuchus and centaur look way too similar. and also sometimes way smaller compared to other myth units but maybe its the perspective?
chinese was confirmed but not included (which is nothing problematic at all just a bit confusing)
the coverart looks greatly coverful but i also prefer the old art more. hoped they would do more “ancient” but more high resolution and colourful art for the gods. so kinda a bit of a hit and miss for me.
i would have loved to see jormungandr cause the unit was the most ridiculous looking unit compared to lore. hope they make it bigger.
i saw hydra and hoped it would finally have multiple heads at the beginning cause thats the trademark of hydra normally and even i liked the growing heads mechanic you could not really utilize it in games that great and it never really felt like hydra. hoped for a more drastic design like argus for example. but there is still time and i hope they i will change this.
didn’t see any new myth units or finally the mechanic for units to be able to fly and land. would have loved to see this.
the presention was wholesome and really nice. the woman who presented it looked a bit like a curvier helen of troy. really fitted well to the presentation ^^
all in all the news exceeded my expectations and all the stuff i was sceptical about looks way better than i expected but the stuff i hoped for (new flying mechanic, chinese, new gods/myth units and more fitting design for e.g. hydra wasn’t there - yet. but i am promising when i look at argus and fenris especially. also i still hope every civ will get some unique heroes and not just in campaign which always felt like wasted potential in my honest opinion) still not sure about the artstyle of the gods tho. but ingame is the perfect blend between serious and colourful/fantasy.

Honestly, if they can nail Core 3 + Atlanteans, I'll be beyond happy. I mentioned it in another comment, but the Eastern expansion never felt cohesive so they'd have way too much work doing something that fits using them. Keeping my fingers crossed! Definitely promising from the screenshots & my guy based on what I'm reading thus far.
1. Not including the Chinese faction was probably done so they can focus on the core game and the Atlanteans, since that's the main part of the game people care about, and they'll orobably release them as 10$ DLC later down the line after they rework and rebalance them. If thats the case, then a good move tbh
2. Yeah, agreed, the game visually looks like a straight upgrade from the original without sacrificing the artstyle.
3. The only thing I'm curious about is the new features and/or changes that they might be bringing in. I've alredy heard rumblings that they're increasing the base population limit and giving you more commands like letting your villagers drop resources, but I'm curious if there's more

Agh, can't wait for this. I used to play this game for hours after coming back from school. This brings back so many memories. I was stuck in defeating the Prometheus titan mission for so long.

I have the fact that I cannot get it to launch thru the Steam platform.. if it were hard media I could eliminate a major complication. Been unable to play for 6 years now 😢

Ive been playing this game since i was a little kid. Been playing the campaign over and over, then made my own campaigns in the Editor and seeing this game be Retold just makes me incredibly happy.
I hope this game will do great financially so we get an age of mythology 2
it looks awesome, I really do hope there are improvements on the editor so that we could play our own scenarios even in single player. And most importantly the biggest updates the old AoM needs is a better AI, bigger maps with different town center locations than just in circle. Can't wait to play this anyway

omg more visual upgrades on units is going to be so sick. when i played this game as a kid seeing hoplites switch to silver and then gold armor when you upgraded them was the coolest thing ever lol

Oh my god... the music. All those nostalgic memories are coming back to me.
I hope there will be a good multiplayer with a rating of 1x1 and 3x3 or 5x5 with different roles, some players are frontline, others study the era and technology. Also with maps where there is a sea, an excellent option for the separate roles of naval forces.

PLEASEEEEE whenever possible, release a trailer for the gameplay. That will be CRUCIAL for this to scale 😭😭
I'm excited about this, but I do have a couple of concerns in an article I read. The monster powers now being a casting ability rather than auto trigger really raises the skill ceiling for them. In a competitive multi-player match itll be fun to watch, but makes it more difficult for the average gamer to make use of. Especially if you have a huge mix of myth units.
God powers being on cooldown is a unique one, too. I think it can work, but my worry is whether or not they will be too fast. I think applying the Titans power system to the other groups would be better. Each God power can be used multiple times but have a small cooldown. Get 3 lightning bolts for Zeus, but each has a 2 minute cooldown. The forest fire can be used twice. Use it as an early way to destroy an enemies wood supply. 4 uses of the Egyptian harvest ability.
Other than that, I am excited to see proper gameplay!
Hope they don't "rework" the story for a "modern audience"...

I was still playing AOE2 and AOM whilst friends were playing WOW or League and I thought for years we’d never see this series get a proper revival but we have been so blessed lately! Got complete confidence this team will knock it out of the park, they’re clearly fans like us!

Played the original when I was in elementary and it kickstarted my love of studying mythology. I’m really looking forward to this.
I'm so stoked for this! I remember buying this at Target when I was in Junior High in 2006 for $10 since I spent most of my childhood playing AoE2. The graphics shocked me at that time.
I'm a history and mythology buff, so here's some background for Cerberus: he is NOT actually a Titan, but instead the son of two legendary monsters, Typhon and Echidna, and he was definitely not anthropomorphic.
Although...the scars over the eye on his middle head are a nice touch. Epic.

I hope it's good. Got into this in the early 2000's. Me and my friends played a ton on dial up, especially in the summers. But after a while people moved on from the game and stopped playing the game. This franchise has been neglected for way too long, so hopefully they do this right. I'm only cautiously excited because of how things have going in the industry in recent years.
I'm so ready! Age of Mythology next to Rome Total War are both games I've probably spend most time on, I still remember AoM releasing and I was so hyped!

They're not only advanced in augmented reality, they're also pros in time travel, bringing people from the 90's into the present to write and do this presentation.

I wanna thank my parents which were gamers back then for letting me watch and play AoM as a child(with 3 or4). Was the first video game I played and I put at leats over 2k hours into the original CD version, Atlanteans CD DLC, Steam version and chinese DLC. I hope RETOLD will be a banger with better multiplay connection :D.
Of all the age remasters, this is the one I've wanted the most.
I can't wait to get into this. I put in hundreds of hours on the original PC version. Then over 300 hours in the Extended Edition. I just love the campaign to this game so much. I love clearing all the maps of their resources. I love killing everything in sight. I can't wait to do it all again in the Retold version.
