The way they build up Tommy's rage, right from the interrogation tactics he used to all the way taking down a massive chunk of the WLF crew by sniping like a militant! A true badass, only second to Joel.. Had to be his brother of course

Imagine if Naughty Dog made these DLCs: - Joel and Tommy’s 20 years of surviving after Sarah’s death. We’d play as Joel. - Tommy’s 3 days in Seattle from his perspective. We’d play as him. - Ellie & Tommy’s journey to Seattle, and also Ellie’s journey to Santa Barbara, we’d play as both. Love this series, thank you for this video since I like to rewatch some of the cutscenes again.
A lot of people talk about if Tommy was intending to go to Seatle from the beginning or not. I think that he wasn't planning to go at first. Although he didnt like letting Joels killers go he thaught the safety of Jackson came first. After his talk with Ellie he realised he couldnt let the killers get away with this (illustrated in his letter to Maria "i wish i could let it go but I can't. I have to take these people to justice"). He didnt go to Seatle for Ellie but because he couldnt let it go himself either. At the end of the game this situation is mirrorred when Tommy goes to Ellie to ask het find and kill Abby. Ellie doesnt want to go at first. Her family comes first now. But later that night she realises she can't let Abby go. So she goes to find her. Dina first thinks she goes because of Tommy saying: "you don't owe Tommy anything." But Ellie makes it clear she goes for herself (saying she can't eat or sleep as long as she didnt kill Abby)
Lidaa letap I guess I just felt like if I was in Ellie’s shoes I’d be kind of embarrassed 😂 He offers a hug and based on his reaction it seems she hugged him tighter than he expected, and she realizes this too so she readjusts her grip and then he awkwardly says “ok” (like “this hug is over now”) as he gently pries her off him and she just stands there. It feels so real, like something I could see happening to me, so it made me internally cringe a bit, ha If anything it just goes to show how in-character the actors were when filming this scene
@@QuillWorks Damn lol I didn't expect a reply and explanation that quick xD. Yeah I guess I can see why you think it's awkward. We need more Tommy and Ellie scenes in my opinion. I like the relationship they have, they seemed close.
I think the reason the hug went that way was because they were both already fighting back tears, so when the hug came it made it even more difficult and had it lasted any longer they both would be bawling.
You see what he did while he was half dead knowing Ellie was still alive? I shudder at thought of what would have happened if Abby killed Ellie instead of Joel
It gets me every time. It’s all the justification I needed to hear. I love how Tommy says “no he wouldn’t” while looking away and knowing he can’t argue with that fact. Which is also the guilt trip that motivated him to leave that night.
FenderMan91 That is very true, if Tommy didn’t tell them their names Abby’s group wouldn’t have known who they were till they got to Jackson. I also think Tommy is doing this for Joel in the sense that he knows Joel wouldn’t have wanted Ellie putting herself in any kind of danger.
scampoli25 totally agree with you. That’s my response to every single “but Joel wouldn’t walk into a room full of strangers and give his name!” He only did because Tommy had already told Abby their names. It would have been extremely sketchy if he said a different name. I think Tommy knew that Ellie would still leave as soon as she found out that he was gone, but figured he’d clear some of the danger before she could even catch up to him.
FenderMan91 Exactly. Which is why I liked the justification to go to Seattle went from revenge mission, to going to get Tommy. It was also fun how they made following Tommy similar to the Bill’s town mission where you are learning things about Bill while avoiding traps.
in this scene you can tell why Joel gravitated towards Ellie, because he resonated with her, he saw the closest thing in his 20 year experience in this world as himself/his daughter in her. and Tommy saw it too, how much Joel meant to her even when trying to dissuade her from going on a quest to avenge him, Tommy saw the closest thing he has to a niece 2:38
I know right? Especially in this scene the shaky breaths, etc.this scene is just heart wrenching. Hes trying so hard to convince ellie to stay in Jackson where's she safe but he knows its a losing battle from the moment she let's him in the door.
My man Tommy's a dark horse 😂 everyone thinks he's this peace loving softie and while to some extent he is, the dudes got a baaad side. I'd love for naughty dog to either make a game showing us the 3 days in Seattle from his view, or a game set in the 20 years between the outbreak and Sarah's death, to the first game. Show us the horrific things Joel and Tommy did, rather than tell us. I just want to play as Tommy man 😩😩😩 never played as him before and he's shown he's just as capable and ruthless as Joel. I've felt Ellies sadness and bloodlust at her father dying, now put me in Tommy's shoes and show me his, because Joel basically raised Tommy and protected him his whole life. Also Tommy remembers life before all this and he helped raise Sarah. There's way more history there than Ellie has, and I think that could make for an even better revenge/emotional story.
In my opinion, I dont think tommy will let Ellies Abby-spare go off so easily, Or i dont think he will forgive her at all. He lost his brother, the one who grew up with him even before the end of the world, loved him, survived and so on. He went blind and became a cripple causing him to lose Maria as well, fueling a hatred for Abby even bigger. He didnt see or thought of any of Abbys perspectives and wouldnt understand why Ellie let her go. And nothings connecting Tommy and Ellies relationship anymore
I mean she can just lie to him and say she didn't find Abby. Ellie is also like the last thing his brother truly cared about, i think he would let it slide after some time.
Me and some people I have seen have on the internet have interpreted this scene very differently. The way I see is that Tommy was always planning to leave for Seattle and went to Ellie to try convince her not to come along with him but when he realised she wouldn't budge he decided to leave early by himself. I have seen other argue that Tommy didn't plan to go but Ellie's ''goading'' is what made him change his mind (but he still didn't want her to get hurt so he left her behind).
He indeed came to make sure she doesn't go with him one way or another. Talking to Maria was just him buying some time to leave and clear the road for Ellie. He singlehandedly wiped out like 1/6 of all WLF.
@@miguelblanco810 same here. For me they can show her here and there but taking up half the game playing as her was ridiculous. They should have cut it shorter
After Joel's death (Joel wakes up in the empty dark place) Joel: Where am i? Ellie? (Then, Joel is walking and scream Ellie's name) Joel: Ellie!? And then: Mysterious girl: Dad? Joel: Ahh! Who's there? (Joel look around to find the girl who call him) Mysterious girl: Dad, it's me (Then there's a white light shining infront of Joel's eye, and the one who call him is Sarah) Joel: Sarah? Sarah: Yes dad it's me (Joel looking at his beutiful daughter who right now is a grown woman and Joel eyes were started to tear, Joel run towards Sarah and hug her) Joel: Oh baby girl i'm sorry Sarah: No dad, don't be sorry it's okay you, me and mom, we're together now. Joel: I miss you my baby girl. Sarah: I miss you to dad.
I like the idea of them going together to Seattle instead of dina, it would have been a great bonding experience for them as Joel's loss was really personal for both of them when Dina only went because of Ellie and not because she felt a need to avenge his death. But I also feel like dina served a purpose, she was there to make Ellie question if it was really worth it while Tommy would have probably wanted for them to go through with it all. I can see why many would have liked that plot better though, and I'm not blind to some of the flaws this game has, but I also really do love the story they decided to tell and I'm not sure having Tommy instead of dina would have created the same result. I have to admit tho I always hated what they did with Tommy at the end, I honestly would have preferred for him to die than survive just to guilt trip Ellie later. It's one of the few scenes I really felt were out of character (another one was Ellie not going with Jesse to save Tommy and leaving him alone), besides Ellie was already broken and on edge, anyone could have made her leave again for example Jesse's parents or Maria after being widowed. But anyways I do agree that having their bond expanded on would have been lovely and this scene is phenomenal, you can really see Joel was the glue between them in a way but also how genuinely they care for each other as family
After this scene, the rest of the game 100% should have been Ellie and Tommy leaving together and hunting down Abby. No Dina no Abby play through. Just Ellie and Tommy bonding over their journey through stories of Joel and learning about each other. Fighting for each other. Tommy would be a playable character. The environment splits them up and you play Tommy for 5 hours getting back to Ellie. Such a massive missed opportunity
@@cannibalfan333 Joel IS kind of a piece of shit. He’s selfish, he’s a long-time murderer. A thief. A liar. If you think about the first game from Marlene’s perspective, he is the villain. And he wins. He murders basically every firefly in the hospital, and ruins humanity’s chance for a vaccine. Then he lies to the other main character “the one he loves” and takes away her purpose in life, without her consent. Ellie wanted to die, wanted her death to mean something after all of her friends and loved ones around her keep dying. Joel took that from her, and took hope from the rest of humanity. Joel is a bad guy lol, you just like him.
Days through Seattle with Ellie and Tommy is ten times better than Dina, in previous game Ellie get to travel with a father figure and this should be about Ellie going with an Uncle figure.
I think Tommy decides to go to Seattle because he wants to prevent Ellie from going there… Because that is what Joel would have wanted him to do, in order to save Ellie
"if it were you or me Joel would be halfway to Seattle by now" makes me tear up, because tommy knows it most and she is practically his niece so lying to her has to be hard
Tommy and Joel look so much alike. I feel like there should've been more emotion in this scene. In the whole game, really. Imo the game was such a waste of a potential opportunity to make you FEEL something, to expand upon real human connections like the first game laid out. All for a big ol generic shock factor. I very much miss the time when the first game was all that was canon. I'm seriously gonna pretend it's still that way.
The last of us part 1.was and still is a masterpiece of the game. It's a combination of style and unique characters that is very hard to replicate even with most talented story writers in naughty dog, that's why many hardcore fans are very disapointed with this sequel, because they all expected something else...something close to that first masterpiece. On technical level engine is amazing with almost photorealistic renderings of the characters and very advanced motion capturing, but from my personal perspective i believe that TLOU story should be over with part II. Pushing away part III would be senseless and it would only ruin the amazing story we all loved even further,in general everything would just become spanish soap opera or some type of milking cow on life support. When we are talking again about part II,i believe that different story it wouldn't be possible anyway, because Sarah died many years ago,and Joel is now old and just a pale shadow of a man that he use to be...on top of that Ellie is not a child anymore, she is a grown up woman more then capable to take care of herself, and also with her own personal demons to fight. So realistically there is no space or material for two of them to continue they amazing journey,it cant be done even with best writers in the world... This series is over and gone forever, but we can still pay respect to the naughty dog for amazing work they done..

2:14 Joel without hesitation would definitely go straight to Seattle to kill whoever killed Ellie, the only imagine close to his daughter that he loves so much or his own blooded brother, Tommy, who both went through so much shit together to survive. Joel is a murderer and a coldhearted person, but he would avenge his loved one and take revenge on those people or person that took someone so dearly, meaningful to his life. Joel’s not that fucked up and coldhearted to not get his ass off the couch and go 500 miles and more to kill some people or an army who killed his loved one. 😤🖤
I feel like Joel would have absolutely lost it if Abby killed Ellie instead. To him, it’d probably be like losing Sarah all over again - but this time it’d be Ellie. Joel would have definitely went straight to Seattle to get revenge for Ellie’s death and possibly go straight into killer mode. He would have lost himself along the way too, because it seemed that Ellie was the only one keeping him sane.
She sparks the flame of revenge, but in the end she was the first to snuff it out. In her journey to revenge, she keeps spilling blood of people who actually don't have anything to do with Joel's death (except Abby's friends ofc). For someone with empathy, that's like flogging your own back with a whip.

Tommy looks and sounds so much like Joel when he's talking to her. From the way that he speaks, to even his mannerisms. Think about this: What a plot twist if in the third game, this is all just revealed to be a bad dream. That at the end of the game, Joel wakes up in his bed, the day after his birthday, and all this never happened. Sarah is still very much alive, and Ellie is revealed to be one of Sarah's friends from school, or something like that. Marlene is revealed to be one of Sarah's teachers from school she goes to. David, from the first game, is revealed to be that big contractor that Joel needed to do business with, Bill is revealed to be Joel's auto mechanic, and Tess is revealed to be Joel's girlfriend.
I've been thinking about that a lot too. Especially since Joel changed a lot since they came to live in Jackson, and really took on the role of a gentle, patient, caring father and member of a community. I'm not sure if he would go after them.

He's my favorite character
They both were hurting bad in their own way considering joel meant a lot to them but in reality I really felt for tommy he lost a big brother and ellie lost a father who she was beginning to forgive and talk to again damn this game was truly heartbreaking.
it's sad how tommy's voice sounds like it's about to broke, he's holding the cry so bad in here.
awesome perfomance and voice acting
You can tell he’s just barely holding it together when he says “Well I’ll figure something out!” He almost breaks.
It's heartwarming to see Tommy thinks of Ellie as family
3:34 Look at how emotional he gets. I think he had already decided to go in Ellie’s place to keep her safe and he knew this could be the last time he ever talked to her.
Me after Joel’s death when Ellie goes to his house:
*Well do we got any loot around here?*
Damn 😂

What?
The loot is important too
His revolver.
Awesome, so I'm not the only one. I feel better about myself now
The way they build up Tommy's rage, right from the interrogation tactics he used to all the way taking down a massive chunk of the WLF crew by sniping like a militant! A true badass, only second to Joel.. Had to be his brother of course
They should've went together, Tommy knew Ellie would pursue Abby. Both of them could've dealt with the Abby's group fine and got the hell out of there.
And he would be a better partner than Dina
@@skep7964 what's wrong with Dina like?
@@timelordastrodo6408 bro tommy is almost exactly like Joel in terms of survival and ruthlessness. They could definitely have gotten more work done together than Ellie with Dina.
KänäkOnTowLegs omg yes
I think he was trying to spare her the pain of hunting down and killing a lot of people. As well as trying to keep her safe. He knew she would do it herself so he tried to beat her to it.
Imagine if Naughty Dog made these DLCs:
- Joel and Tommy’s 20 years of surviving after Sarah’s death.
Omg this idea is golden 🤩 and No problem I enjoyed the hell out of this scene
We NEED a spin-off of the first idea!
4:00 That was a really awkward hug but I feel like Ellie needed it to last longer
Lol why is it awkward
Lidaa letap I guess I just felt like if I was in Ellie’s shoes I’d be kind of embarrassed 😂
He offers a hug and based on his reaction it seems she hugged him tighter than he expected, and she realizes this too so she readjusts her grip and then he awkwardly says “ok” (like “this hug is over now”) as he gently pries her off him and she just stands there. It feels so real, like something I could see happening to me, so it made me internally cringe a bit, ha
If anything it just goes to show how in-character the actors were when filming this scene
@@QuillWorks Damn lol I didn't expect a reply and explanation that quick xD. Yeah I guess I can see why you think it's awkward. We need more Tommy and Ellie scenes in my opinion. I like the relationship they have, they seemed close.
Lidaa letap Haha yeah I was on my phone and the notification popped up so I saw it right away. And yeah, I liked their relationship too
I think the reason the hug went that way was because they were both already fighting back tears, so when the hug came it made it even more difficult and had it lasted any longer they both would be bawling.
I will not touch the game cause of this. So he will always be alive living in a happy village with electricity.

Why so sure? We never saw joel take revenge.
@@leonpaelinck So do you think Joel would’ve wanted them to avenge him?

@@Yougotcaged102but that’s not vengeance. That’s saving her. It’s different
@@soccerkingfenich347 That's not the point
2:14 hits me because it is true
It gets me every time. It’s all the justification I needed to hear. I love how Tommy says “no he wouldn’t” while looking away and knowing he can’t argue with that fact. Which is also the guilt trip that motivated him to leave that night.
scampoli25 I think Tommy left because of what Joel would have done, but also because he felt responsible for Joel’s death.
This is the most heartbreaking, and well acted, scene in the game for me.
in this scene you can tell why Joel gravitated towards Ellie, because he resonated with her, he saw the closest thing in his 20 year experience in this world as himself/his daughter in her. and Tommy saw it too, how much Joel meant to her even when trying to dissuade her from going on a quest to avenge him, Tommy saw the closest thing he has to a niece 2:38
1:54 Tommy can’t even bring himself to look Ellie in the eyes. I honestly think he would have broken down if he did.
Jeffrey Pierce stole the show in this game.
Thats why tommy is my favourite character. Hes a good real dude and a badass
Ellie was really looking for a hug 😞
My favourite part about this scene was the fact Ellie had no idea the whole time Tommy was saying those things to convince himself not to go
In my opinion, I dont think tommy will let Ellies Abby-spare go off so easily, Or i dont think he will forgive her at all.
I never thought of it like that… FU-😖
I mean she can just lie to him and say she didn't find Abby. Ellie is also like the last thing his brother truly cared about, i think he would let it slide after some time.
Tommy literally ended up looking like Joel. Brothers for life 🙏🏽
Me and some people I have seen have on the internet have interpreted this scene very differently.
I hope there's a dlc we play as tommy
I just hope if they make a Last of us 3 I just hope they don’t make us play as Abby again
@@miguelblanco810 same here. For me they can show her here and there but taking up half the game playing as her was ridiculous. They should have cut it shorter

Joel: Sarah?
Sarah: Yes dad it's me

If it was Ellie, who died, Joel would’ve gone full, John Wick on them
One of my fav cut scenes
Yea, i would love to play as Tommy
But good ol' Naughty Dog stepped in and was like "nah, Joel bad guy. Abby good girl. Play her. We no care about loved characters from game before."
@@cannibalfan333 nah they made the right decision
You can tell he wants to keep Ellie out of this and safe so he can do it himself. It is his brother and knows Joel wouldn’t want her to go.
ellie loved joel so much.
so sad they had to part while ellie was in her douchebag phase.
Days through Seattle with Ellie and Tommy is ten times better than Dina, in previous game Ellie get to travel with a father figure and this should be about Ellie going with an Uncle figure.
Dina was so extra....extra annoying
If they went together it wouldn’t have gone so badly.
I think Tommy decides to go to Seattle because he wants to prevent Ellie from going there…
Because that is what Joel would have wanted him to do, in order to save Ellie
"if it were you or me Joel would be halfway to Seattle by now" makes me tear up, because tommy knows it most and she is practically his niece so lying to her has to be hard
Tommy and Joel look so much alike. I feel like there should've been more emotion in this scene. In the whole game, really. Imo the game was such a waste of a potential opportunity to make you FEEL something, to expand upon real human connections like the first game laid out. All for a big ol generic shock factor.
I very much miss the time when the first game was all that was canon. I'm seriously gonna pretend it's still that way.
Joel was the best and now he is gone.😭

I think Tommy was planning to go to Seattle the whole time, but he knew that Ellie cared about Joel so much and tried to protect her from a journey that he knew would inevitability end up in blood.
Ellie looked like she needed that hug
It's look like tommy trying to hold his tear right there after he said "okay" so maybe, just maybe, he don't want to show his weakness, pretending that he don't want to revenge, or redemption, he didn't show any emotion, but deep inside he's crying, he broken.
Any complaints you have against the story of this game i may understand but everything else specially the acting was phenomenal
