  • Hello all, I've been working on this one for a few months now! Here is what I feel to be the ultimate way to setup a digital dash for the DR650. I considered the Trail Tech, but after seeing some problems with them people were having and the fact that you still need to subscribe for their service each month, I decided this was the way for me! Have a look, hope you enjoy!

    Just a correction, Thork Racing is Portuguese, we at Thork Racing also develop your Launcher called Drive Mode Dashboard 2, and all the CARPE Controllers, software/firmware is made here too :P
    Thank you for this amazing video!
    Also actually, the battery will last you around 6 months on a single charge :P

    Hi, congratulations to your coll setup. I also own the Thork/Carpe Iter Controller you use, and like it a lot.
    I just wanted to mention, that you can configure your Android Phone (--> Settings --> App --> Default Apps --> Start-App) to use the "DMD2" Dashboard App as the default Start App.
    By doing so, you can easily go back to the Dashboard. Just use the "LongPress" on the upper button, enable the HUD (overlay dialogue coming up, if the controller has been setup properly) and select the "Home" button as explained in the overlay.
    I do not know, if you know this, but as it is not part of the video I wanted to mention.
    Other cool features like skip ti previous or next title, volume up and down, ... can also be used via the HUD.

Though i think i could hide a small digital gauge somewhere, even behind the phone so i dont need to swap stuff on and off all the time. There are a couple of issues with using a phone even if it's ruggedized. I found that on long trips with the screen on and using a map app, it would overheat while it is charging and the screen would cutout. My phone was not in an enclosure, so you may have to provide some fresh air to the back side. I also bought some heat sinks from Amazon that were made for Raspberry Pi's and stuck them all across the back of the phone, which now looks like a porcupine. 2 sets and I haven't tried it yet. My phone has wireless charging but moisture and corrosion are still an issue with usb charging even if a short circuit is not possible at 5V. The other issue is speedo, tach and temperature. Those can be addressed with a TrailTech Vapour, or if you're wallet is flush, the Thork Racing tablet which integrates all of that into one tidy package. Nice build👍👍

      Its a 3" black ABS pipe with the rubber sealing plugs. Got it all at Home depot. I think its 17" long and I made the clamps myself out of 3/4' x 1/8" thick steel strap. 👍🏻

      I don't actually, but I am planning on doing a tool kit video very soon. I recently had to use my kit for the first time and found a few weaknesses to my kit I was carrying. Sorry the remote is a good idea but can you make calls with that phone? It's cool you can listen to music on it but you really have no advantage to that system other than the remote. Don't get me wrong it's crafty/techy that you did that but you can get dashes already made and I believe they have bluetooth also and they're pretty cheap. Of course you could go full James Bond and put launchers on the thing?

    • @southerndualsport3827
      @southerndualsport3827  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can do anything a phone can do if the phone is connected to a cellular network. To me the advantage is I can scroll around on maps etc on the fly, while moving without taking my hands off the bars. It is also good because you don't have to swipe your hands across a dirty screen, that alone makes it worth it to me because you won't destroy your dash screen. I can't stand a scratched display. 🤣 One other cool thing is its a waterproof phone so even in the rain you can still maneuver your maps/apps. If you've ever tried to use a touch screen in the rain you'll understand. Lastly, it is about the same cost or even less really than the fancy GPS enabled dashes, and in my opinion, because there is unlimited apps available for Android, it is FAR more powerful. Thanks for watching! I fully appreciate any and all input!😁🍻
