    JIS screwdrivers. Phillips head is designed to cam out to prevent over torque on assembly lines, mikuni uses the Japanese standard heads. An impact driver (the type you hit with a hammer) works really well if you have never opened the carb up before

      @@southerndualsport3827 those factory toolkit ones (usually a black handle with a flathead/cross screwdriver bit that you can take out and flip) work surprisingly well. If you hammer them hard enough the flat head will cut through the plastic handle and you can put all the hit into the screw lol

    That little bit of oil is a great tip. Had a quadrajet on a blazer I used to rebuild. After leaking accelerator pumps a couple times...that was the fix. Will be doing this to my DR here soon. Great video! 👍

    You forgot to remove the needle from the slide to inspect and measure for wear along with the spring, slide, slide guide and emulsion tube. These parts all very commonly wear and should be replaced if any signs of wear are present.

    Don’t use these old “backup” parts and gaskets. Buy a new kit and put it on the shelf.

    Hi what goes on the 90 degree metal pipe on top of carb,not the fuel pipe one.
    My bike has nothing attached to it
    My bike is a 1991 without vacuum tap

    • @southerndualsport3827
      @southerndualsport3827  Před 3 lety

      Hmm I'm not familiar with the early bikes, but if its a vacuum operating carburetor, it may be the help with the opening of the carb.

    Hi,
    How many rotations would you want for a medium setting on the air/fuel screw (needle next to your plug in the front)?

    • @southerndualsport3827
      @southerndualsport3827  Před 3 lety +1

      The starting point for the mixture screw is around 1.5 to 2 turns out, but every bike is a bit different especially if you have jetted it. I would start there, and fine tune it to the best idle. Make sure the idle screw is not backed out when you do this also, it should be turned in a few turns if you are starting from scratch. Hope that helps!😁👍🏻

    Hi, great vid. This answered a lot of questions for me.
    One question, please: The smaller vent nozzle that sticks straight out the right side of the carb, behind the rear break reservoir with the 5/16 hose. NOT the larger one that turns towards the rear of the bike with the filter over the air box. You can see it at 1:30 into your video. Does that just vent to atmosphere? My bike sat for a year and wouldn't start so I took the carb off and cleaned the gummed up jets. Now I'm just not sure where that one should go - LOL
    Thanks for your help.

      @southerndualsport3827  Před 3 lety +1

      2007 with 11k miles. I had just put a good filter on it before this but my fuel lines were cracking so probably degrading inside. 14 years of California gas is a lot to ask of a poor carburetor 🤣
