We all know that Conan is not stupid. Funny for sure but very smart indeed!
Time stamp?
I don’t think anyone who takes an excessive amount of NyQuil cares about their ability to complete tasks.
Right?? I'd say that's right the vast majority of the time. I know one person who takes a lot of nyquil out of sheer desperation after many years of really extreme insomnia that almost nothing puts a dent is. He definitely cares about his ability to function cause he owns and operates a successful business. Trust me when I say the side effects of the nyquil are an improvement over the full effects of the crippling insomnia. He's aware of the drawbacks and still tries other options when suggested. Definitely one of the rare people.
I feel like any med student who gets Dr. Mike as their mentor will come away with really great medical habits and tips.
I don't want to go into medicine, but veterinary science (which is basically the same I guess, just on animals), but I'd totally love to be taught by someone as passionate, kind and knowledgable as Dr. Mike.
If every doctor broke things down like this... I would truly feel more open with my doctor. The way Doctor Mike tells us the viewer what medically the symptoms your having can be and he offers his insight at to why he speculates what is wrong, rather than saying you have strep, just feels more personal. Rather than not explaining and being treated as a lesser
I had strep 4 times a month for three months straight... And strep meds did nothing for me
Tbh that's not necessarily something he does every day as a doctor, a lot of these videos are thoroughly researched. I feel like there may be extra explanation he needs to put in here since he can't answer individual questions. It's also much more general, where these symptoms would normally create a whole picture of someone's health which is really complex and needs to be considered when prescribing medications, etc, it's much simpler to focus on one issue as a concept.
As a doctor this is the worst idea ever. During consultations we have to rule out the serious illnesses and us telling you you might have cancer or something really bad as we speculate will just worry you out too much
Just wanted to add that a normal course of antibiotics is 14 days and if you finish the course as directed, then you will test negative for rapid strep. If you are saying you had strep 4 times a month for 3 months straight, that would mean you are returning to the doctor every week complaining of a sore throat, testing positive for strep, given antibiotics, then not taking the antibiotics for the full 2 weeks, then returning the next week complaining of a sore throat again. This just does not make sense.
I went to an OB/GYN once who had a student with him. He said to the student "come here and look at this, she has a text book cervix" I didn't know if I should be proud or creeped out hahaha
*OB/GYN...
Beauty4evamore ! Aha! I know how you feel. My OBGYN had a student with her. She asked if the student could do the exam and I said it was fine. She started the exam and OBGYN said, No you have to do it like this cause she has a weird cervix. I almost burst out laughing but in stead said, Why am I not surprised?
😂 not my cervix but I've had my ent dr call in medical students and other dr's before because my inner ears are so weird (you can see the bones that are usually hidden behind the eardrums).
Yeah that definitely sounds fishy
Be proud of your perfect cervix lol
This is why a chose a doctor when I was pregnant based on his sense of humor and how relaxed he made me feel in a situation that made me anxious. So important!
I was also diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse a few months ago. The way Doctor Mike explained here is exactly how I got the explanation from my cardiologist after the ultrasound. I'm so glad to have heard about it from you, too, Doctor Mike! Great video as always 😃

me: so yesterday i stubbed my toe
dr mike: stubbing your toe can lead to either a breakage OR an infection if not properly taken care of. one of the first things we learn in med school is that we need our toes for proper balance and stubbing a toe can cause a limp that will cause other problems later down the line. it is important that if you stub your toe you go IMMEDIATELY to the emergency room where they can take x days and scans and give you the proper tools to treat you.

LOVE the commentary, DM.
When I was 13yrs old, I was hospitalized for a temp over 104. Not good. When my doctor was asking questions, he asked if I’ve been having diarrhea. Now, I’ve always been extremely shy, so I said no way of course not. Then he trapped me.
He asked me when the last time I pooped was.
A question I could not escape. Not without, however, my super handy super selective memory. I suddenly had no idea when the last time I used the bathroom was.
Then he broke me down.
“Can’t remember? Don’t ya keep a poop diary?”
I was not amused but couldn’t help but laugh. He asked again, and I told him with my head down in a whisper, the truth.
It was a very effective tactic to use on a blushing 13yr old.
This is kinda cute 😂
I probably would've broke down crying..having social anxiety and all...
Doctor mike is a gift to humanity. Seriously, his ability to break down these medical shows and even non-medical shows is second to none. We need more doctors like him in this world. My children watch his videos on the daily! Keep up the great work Mike!!!!!

Thank you for saying that physical health and mental health are always linked together...there is no separation. I appreciate you emphasizing this as it is so important!
I find this talk about heart valves ironic, I went to the doctor yesterday and I took an ultrasound and they found that one of my valves doesn't fully close and it lets some blood flow back but it isn't anything major to be worried about. I have had this condition since I was 3 but I hadn't payed too much attention to it since now, that I watch doctor Mike and pay more attention to my health. So TY Dr.mike.

Yeah, maybe you might as well be a professor. You got the talent.
I wish he was my high school biology teacher. That was a tough class, Honors bio as a freshman.
Haha, this was a fun watch!
I've had this theory that eating and drinking well when sick is helpful. In order of importance, I think the body needs Oxygen, Hydration, Calories, and Rest. The body is pretty good at regulating oxygen. Get lots of fluids, get some extra calories so the immune system has some extra energy to fight back, and rest a reasonable amount. Am I way off base here, or am I listening to my body right?
Interesting to see the MVP issue come up. Every time I go to a new doctor or to the hospital, they always ask, and I have to explain that I have a pinhole in my heartwall. From what I'm told, it's not treatable, not correctable, and so long as I keep my heart rate down, the palpitations are minimal. I have a lot wrong with me, and I've never failed to make a doctor laugh when I say I shipped defective from the factory, and can't find the receipt to make a warranty claim. :D
i love how they made the video frame match dr mike's shirt
"We're trained not to say anything inappropriate"
When I was 41 I went in for my annual check-up and my Doctor was training a new NP. At the end of my appt, the Doc said "Do you want to go ahead and do your prostate check?" I said "Sure, why not?", to which the nurse practitioner replied "Well, you're just up for anything, huh?" (I thought this was both weird and quite funny. I mean, it's not like this was a party on Saturday night and I was like "Sure, pop on up there.")
just make sure you say no homo then all is good

I learned more from this free DR Mike video than at my last physical on Medicare that was a drive by experience. The Dr was so interested in doing as little as humanly possible. Her attitude was you are having a blood test and this is what I rely on. What more did you expect from me!!?? How she got a medical degree I have no clue. I bet she paid someone to take her final tests. Dr Mike is so likable he would certainly make me feel better just by being in the same room and talking to me. I'm really glad my doctor gets my sense of humor; it helps me deal with the reality of my chronic illnesses. At my last appointment with him, I walked into the exam room, dropped my bag on the chair "I know you said not to collect anymore rare diseases, but this one (hEDS) was really shiny."
I got a nice laugh out of him and then we followed it up a more serious conversation about how we would need to move forward in my care.
