    Whoever checked off the boxes on the build sheet of this Galaxie did a pretty good job when they added all of the different component packages. Somebody knew just what they wanted before they went in to the dealership. I only got to do that once with all of the new vehicles I ever bought. And over my time of vehicle buying I bought a lot of new vehicles. I did it one time with an Oldsmobile, and still didn't get what I really wanted even having the money to pay it off the day I ordered it. Not all of it but a very good chunk of it, just until I got it in at the dealership. We will never see those days again, ever.

    Look-this is how real cars should made. When I was a kid,our family car was the 1968 Ford XL. It had a reliable V8-302.It had hideaway lights and a horseshoe gear shift with lighted panel. The car had good handling in the snow;and that engine always started without complaint,in all weather.

      302s were super slow in that big car

    I used to own a similar car, except mine had the 428/4 speed. Same color. Loved that car, and I kick myself every time I think about having sold it.

    Now THATS the way the exhaust is supposed to look. Not stupid chrome straight tips sticking horizontally out under the rear bumper.

      That car still had the factory exhaust with dealer installed stinger mufflers.

    That car is incredible. The 4 speed got me, AND THEN THE FACTORY TACH. My dad had a 68 xl so I often check these out. I have found a couple of 4 speeds but never seen that tach till now.

    My older brother bought a ‘69 XLGT in Gulf Stream Aqua, Black interior and Black stripe. His had a 429 4V and automatic with that big horseshoe shifter Ford had in the console. Beautiful car. Never have seen any other like it. Fast? Uh…yeah.

    I had a 1968 Country Squire in burgundy. Awesome car. I put BFG 235/65R15s on it and it just hunkered down and looked absolutely badass, even with faded and fake wood grain on the side. Remember Dirty Harry drove the Custom 500 as his cop car. Plain trim but still looked like it meant business. I’ve always said that if I had the means, I’d have an example of each body type, convertible, 2-door, 4-door , wagon, and of course I had a ‘67 LTD hardtop coupe and a ‘67 4-door hardtop, which meant no B pillar, all windows down that thing looked sinister. ‘67s were beautiful and the rear looked almost the same as ‘68, but ‘67 had stacked headlights. ‘69 Looked stupid I thought. ‘70 and ‘71 were fine but then every car from ‘72- maybe the GNX looked like the era it was made in, and that’s not a good attribute.

    I think that is probably the nicest body drawn by Ford in 68. You're lucky to have such a nice example in Ontario. Is it a Canadian Car?

      I have to agree with you on that & no I purchased the car from the original owner who lived in Marietta Georgia. The car was built at the Louisville plant on Feb 20 1968 & shipped to Strother Ford in Smyrna Georgia. Mr Bentley had special ordered this car in a Z code 390 4 spd with the GT pkg. Ford only built 141 390 Gt 4 spd cars & it's only one of 2 in this color the famous Highland Green. This one is the only one that was ordered with a stereo am/ fm radio making it a one of one. I've now owned it for 10 years now. Thanks & I really love this car. Denis

      When younger and on a trip to Florida in 1986, we were driving through Sarasota, I spotted a stunning teal blue 68 XL GT in a small dealers lot right out at the road. So we pulled in. White ragtop with white interior, white body stripe, automatic. 428 emblem, stock spinner hubcaps and whitewalls. Gorgeous and glowing in that metallic teal. The guy came out and opened it up for me and chatted about it. The thing was absolutely immaculate and clean, I remember it like it was yesterday, and have always had a strong like for them ever since. The lot wanted $4000. Way out of my means and lacking ability or knowledge to even get it home.. I could only dream. I'm still looking.
      You should consider making an updated high quality "on the road" short about that great car Denis. Cheers, Mark

    I love your 68. I have one now at the moment
    I don't know what to do with it. It has a 390. 3 speed Columb shift. A Fastback XL GE. Hide a way head lights. Could you please help me to decide what to do with it. I have $800.00 dollars in it. I don't even know the value of the car. Is it rare with a Columb shift? Mine is a lighter green in color. I have as well an extra front clip to go with it. Thank you.

      I've seen videos of several 1968 XL cars that had a column shift, or even a bench seat. Had to cast doubts, though, on one guy who was trying to sell a 1968 Galaxie 500 FOUR-DOOR sedan as an XL. He never did offer a Marti report or window sticker as proof, only that it had a big engine.

    The comments hint that this is a Canadian car. Is this why it doesn't have the XL-only "gill slits" on the front fender?

      @jenden1808  Před 6 lety +2

      Sorry to hear that & yes parts are hard to find but they are out there. I managed to find stuff for mine over the years. Ford only built 1806 xl gt cars but only 141 were 390 4 spds & approx 1200 were automatics.
      Cheers
