Big Shark Tooth Hunting at its Finest

- Last week was the first time Diva and I laid eyes on our new shark tooth hunting spot near Charleston South Carolina. We picked up some nice teeth that were exposed and I ended last week's video at our lunch / coffee break. Refreshed and garbed in full digging regalia, we returned that afternoon to dig the new site for the first time. Normally I like to find a spot that looks good and then go to work, but everywhere had potential for incredible finds so it was hard to decide where to concentrate. I jumped around looking for the very best layer, and everywhere I stuck shovel would qualify as worthy at any other spot. Diva did the same. Here and now, only the best formation would do. The water was seeping in fast and everything would soon be underwater, so I dug quickly. I didn't film things I would normally film because as soon as I would dig a spot, the water would rush in and submerge everything. But it was oh so good! The gravel was everywhere and it was thick and chunky and barely covered by a thin layer of sand so it was easy to dig. It wasn't long before I struck big shark tooth paydirt and flipped out a good sized megalodon tooth just as Diva got one. We had been finding smaller teeth for a while but we both breathed a sigh of relief as the site finally gave up some bigger shark tooth fossils. I got on a hot streak and flipped a monster meg soon after, then ANOTHER one. Its the stuff that fills the dreams of slumbering shark tooth hunters. When we close our eyes we dream of this kind of day - giant megalodon teeth littering the collecting grounds and all we have to do is pick them up. The day passed quickly and it was easy to ignore aching backs and blistered hands. Night came as quickly as the water was filling the hole and unfortunately the weather called for rain. We packed up not knowing what to expect for the next day except that we would certainly be back! Would we return the next morning to a flooded memory or would it be just enough rain to wash the piles of material that we dug during this excellent first day of big shark tooth hunting at its finest? I'll let you know next week!
Holy crap. That is unreal
Right?!!
If we had places like that in the uk I don’t think I’d ever leave lol
we hunted that spot as much as we possibly could!
In the uk there is a place we’re you can find a shark tooth called megaidon
Where@@MrCheese156
Wow. Those are some nice teeth.ove the colors. Congratulations.
thank you!
OMG WHERE. ARE YOU?! LOL!!! I know you can't or won't tell, but you are doing things that i have only had dreams about! (Yes, I have had dreams of finding giant Megs) Those teeth are incredible. That third one with its curvature is amazing. That would be a find of a lifetime for me.
Same here. My biggest (in my profile pic) is about 3.75 in. Different strata up here. I dream fossils as well!
@@ChesapeakeBayBrian399 i have been hunting my whole life and I never stop dreaming about fossils!
we collect around the Charleston area in the lowcountry of South Carolina
@@blackriverfossils I am in Beaufort SC, but not quite the right layers are exposed down here. I find tiny ones on the beach. Used to find some good ones on Cumberland Island where they paved the roads with dredge material from the St Mary's river. That place you guys are at in just incredible.
@@beachcomber4141 the rivers in the Beaufort area are LOADED with megalodon teeth. Everywhere I have been diving down there has been at about 30 feet. I'm not sure if that's how deep the formation is or just a coincidence. Its definitely there though.
That's so awesome! I would love to go digging to find one.😁
there are countless big ones left out there to find!
Bravo from france, thank you for sharing your passion 😊
thank you for watching!
Wow very nice!
thank you!
What a day 😍👏👏👏
That's a dream day of fossil hunting beautiful megs
it was a superb day for digging!
My mind is entirely blown
Indeed rare, epic, beautiful teeth. Those sharks where very large. 🫵 rocked it this time. 👏😀
I feel so lucky to have had a day like this!
I love your videos. You two look like you have so much fun, working hard to find our past. Beautiful tooth.
thank you so much!
I would call that a banner day. Nice teeth!
What an awesome day 👏👏👏!! The polish job that mother nature did was amazing. You are 100% correct to find 3 over 5" in one day is like Christmas day as a child. The tooth god's were looking over you. Congratulations!! Thank you for sharing your video I do appreciate it.
It was amazing! The teeth are gorgeous at that spot. thank you for watching!
2:21~3:30 That is an upper jaw lateral tooth. Congratulations!❤😊😊
thanks!
0:49 this dude finds a legendary megalodon tooth and says seen better days tho lol if it was me I’d be way happier lol
I meant the shark tooth has seen better days because its enamel had been sand blasted off the display side. this was one of the best days I ever had digging I was completed stoked!
great finds dude😀👏
thanks!
Congrats, Kim. You deserve it. All that digging, bro. Thanks for sharing.
thanks man!
Redonkulous!
I found one of the best Megs in my collection in a site in Venice, FL that looks just like this site. It was difficult to hunt because you sink in the mud. It was a construction excavation site, in other words, they were using it to get fill dirt for a project.
There are some beautiful teeth down in Venice. Just got back from 4 days diving down there. Loved it!
just came home from work and wow! brilliant finds best you get back n get the rest of the mouthful! just incase they came from the same meg! thanks as always for sharing : )
I had that same thought, what if there was a whole jaw full of teeth down there? They're scattered around so there would be no way to know if they are from the same shark but the concentration of fossils there is amazing!
Dude yall killed it again. Yall must have a mountain of teeth stacked up in yall house
the house looks like an episode of Hoarders, but instead of pizza boxes, cheeseburger wrappers and clothes we have cool stuff like shark teeth, crystals, native american artifacts, and colonial relics. At least when I'm dead and my son has to clean it all up there won't be roaches all over the place!
@blackriverfossils I told my son when he inherited all my stuff. Don't just nickel and dime it. Do a little research and get a good price or don't sell it all. They don't make this stuff no more lol.. awesome stuff.. keep up the videos
@@dewey_digginnc4946 gotta do it! my son hunted with me for over a decade so he definitely knows the shark teeth side and wouldn't make such a grievous error, but the stuff I found since he's been grown is a different story, especially the relics. some of those are crazy valuable. I may need to have another talk with him!
I'm amazed! Up here in Maryland 4 in + are scarce. Great vid, great spot and may you have many more great hunts!
big teeth may be scarce in MD, but the teeth you do find up there are in remarkable condition! thanks so much for watching and for your comment!
@@blackriverfossils Most Welcome. and Yes, it's true, very nice cond!
29 days until im going down there
there's still plenty left for ya
Wath a trio!!! Perfect enamel awesome teeth 👏👏👏
They sure are pretty! thanks for watching!
Maassive
what a spot! Im down in Savannah and dream of driving by an awesome dug out site I can explore!
i have been diving down there and found megalodon teeth so there are probably land sites as well. good luck!
they look like they are coated in glass or something. super finds. is this the same area as those monster mako / GW teeth that has since been covered?
The natural shine is really cool. Its like I ran a buffing wheel over them but I swear I didn't! Its probably 5-10 miles from that spot that was covered up.
Honestly this is such a dream for me to do. I’m just a kid but I hope when I grow up some more I can learn how to do this! I’m just not sure if you can find teeth in NJ
you can find shark teeth in NJ. I have never hunted there but I have heard the names Big Brook and Ramanessin in reference to collecting locations where people find cretaceous age fossils, including shark teeth. best of luck to you!
Do you know where I can find them in Florida?
Venice Beach is the shark tooth capital of the world. they have a shark tooth festival there every spring to celebrate it. you can find a bunch of smaller ones on the beach, and divers find superb quality megalodon teeth there just a few hundred yards from shore.
thx!@@blackriverfossils
I HAVE GOOD NEWS
I took your advice from last week into account when I was out.
Stopped to look where I was seeing lots of gravel and I ended up finding what I believe to be a few trilobites from the devonian era! All of the fossils here in Ontario are from around 500-250 mya so no dinosaurs or sharks for me yet :( but mark my words I'll be ready to take on SC come August! I can't thank you enough, I feel more confident in making my dreams of angustiden glory a reality by the day!
Hey I was wondering, does the hobby license in SC allow for digging at a site if its not in water? I know you can't use tools below the low water mark or something like that, but I wasn't sure if its outside of water if the same thing applies.
Great finds by the way, like you said its the stuff dreams are made of :P
Send on some of that good luck of yours my way please!
congratulations on your finds! that's an awesome feeling to explore and find something so old. regarding your question, the sc hobby license only applies in state waters like rivers, lakes, etc. If you're on private property it is not necessary.
just started getting into teeth hunting, i saw in the description you’re in charleston, i live in goose creek, would love to know where this was
they're almost everywhere in the lowcountry if you go deep enough.
I am so Jealous, you guys are AWESOME 11111
thank you so much for watching and for your comment!
Do you guys sell these?
I am just an amateur collector so I don't sell my finds.
🦈❤ wow! I would love to just find 1 Meg tooth lol
Yall hit the jackpot! Did yall go to a public place to dig at? I would love to take my son to go do something like this since he's obsessed with shark teeth hunting.
this is a private spot we got permission to collect but there are public spots out there, mostly beaches, creeks and rivers all up and down the atlantic coast between Maryland and northern Florida. you can find them in southwest Florida too.
That shark must have been so massive I wonder if it would even be a threat to humans? I don't think we'd be even on their radar. Surely it would have been looking for something big to exercise those chompers
i'm sure if they were still alive they would be seen as a threat. they could easily take down a decent size boat.
I wish I could hunt for those, you guys are luckiy!
I feel very lucky to be able to collect these amazing fossils
“Bro throw some sand on it”

Ooo!!
I live near Myrtle id love to find a spot like this
I have heard of people finding shark teeth in Myrtle Beach, but more often its Great Whites rather than Megalodon teeth. The megalodon teeth are in greater concentration to the north and south of MB.
