Collecting videos ad nauseam! We hunt for Megalodon teeth and other prehistoric sharks teeth, artifacts like arrowheads and spears, ice age fossils, and other interesting fossils from surface collecting in creeks, streams, and ditches, and scuba diving in the black water rivers of the southeast US. We heed the call of the quarry to recover fantastic ancient treasures before they are reburied forever. If you like REALLY old stuff, this channel is for you!
Hooked On Florida Arrowhead Hunting
Remember my birthday dig a couple posts ago? The one where Diva and I went to Florida to hunt for arrowheads? That was awesome and we had such a good time that we booked a return trip as soon as we got home. This is our return trip. We hoped that we would be able to go to the same spot as last time, but that one was closed unfortunately so this time around we were at a new spot they call the Love site. Not sure why they call it that, but if I had to guess its because there is so much to find there, who wouldn't love it? Anyway, we were working the screens again and from the first second we were finding percussion flakes. Like a ridiculous amount! We were noses in the sand on the hunt, tossing every piece of chert into the bucket on the hunt for more Native American artifacts. They're from the Archaic period, ranging somewhere between 3000 and 6000 years old. We were hoping to find a Florida arrowhead with amazing workmanship made of incredible translucent material. That's the dream. Did we find it? You'll have to watch the video to find out! @AncientAdventures made a video a few weeks ago of this hunt and she included footage of stuff other people found.

Shark Tooth Haul

This video is from a couple of evenings at Sloth Party where we only had an hour or two to dig, so I combined them into one video. @AncientAdventures might call that lazy, I call it efficient. I found a bunch of teeth, a haul of shark teeth if you will, in just a short amount of time relatively speaking and I didn't take many videos out there. Sorry about that. I filmed the megalodon teeth but ...

There's so much going on in my collecting world that there is a log jam. I collect far more often than I can post, so I stash stuff in boxes, bowls, cardboard flats, paper plates, buckets, bins, and the list goes on. I aged again. It was a big one this time so I wanted to do something new. Not REALLY new like skydiving, but new as far as collecting is concerned. Luckily I found a company called The Big Dig Flor...

I've seldom been to a better shark tooth hunting spot than Sloth Party. Its so stocked with megalodon teeth its almost like we can find them at will. Ok, so maybe that's pushing it but I maintain that it's a very special hole in the ground. Today I ran up the meg count by a few more, making it that much harder for all future giant shark tooth hunting spots to compete. There were a few other coo...

Its not always shark teeth. I love hunting artifacts too, but I don't have nearly the success with arrowheads that I have with shark teeth. There were lots of Native Americans around here from the Paleo period all the way up through first contact with Europeans in the 1600s, but the proof is hard to find because the area has been built up and concreted over for centuries burying indian artifact...

I have lived in Charleston SC for my entire life and I've been hunting for fossil shark teeth since I was a small child. Shark teeth can be found all over the place in the lowcountry so we used to find them when we played in the ditches. Collecting fossilized shark teeth is always fun, but its not like there have been many innovations in techniques in the hunt to find a megalodon tooth. It doesn't get much more basic than sticking t...

I found one of the best Megs in my collection in a site in Venice, FL that looks just like this site. It was difficult to hunt because you sink in the mud. It was a construction excavation site, in other words, they were using it to get fill dirt for a project.
There are some beautiful teeth down in Venice. Just got back from 4 days diving down there. Loved it!
What makes the teeth stack up so heavy in one small area my man?
There were rivers flowing all through here during the ice age that eroded deposits made before earlier in prehistory. Flowing water piles heavier deposits together, and thats how everything got piled up together.
Where is this located? I’ve managed to find some Megalodon fragments in the Peacer River in Florida but have never found a whole tooth
Its near charleston south carolina. the peace river is good for megs, keep hunting eventually you'll find a whole one. you just have to try different spots.
Love your videos. Long time subscriber. Been fossil hunting for about 20 years here in N. Central FL. My biggest have been in the 3 - 3 1/4 range. One day I'm gonna make it up there to S.C. and find some of those monsters. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the complement! I appreciate you watching. The teeth might be smaller down where you hunt but I betcha they are in a lot better shape. We just went diving down in Venice a couple weeks ago and a dude on the boat found one just under 6 inches so you can find the big ones down there too. Best of luck to you!
@@blackriverfossils oh for sure. I'm in the Gainesville area and do a lot of creek walking. You're not allowed to use any kind of tools or sifter now though because of erosion issues but you can top spot them pretty well. My biggest was a top spot. And the color/condition is crazy. I have a little 2" posterior meg that is almost pristine serrations and shine and some Giant Mako that are still almost razors. Lol. I did find the top corner of a root that had to be a 4-5 inches though. I haven't had the pleasure of diving for any yet.
@@GTAirsoft we hunted teeth in gainesville once. Didn't find much but we processed some micro matrix there that we haven't gone through yet. We heard there were nurse shark teeth in it, and that's why we went. Diving is awesome man. The conditions down in Venice are amazing right now. The visibility is so good we could see the boat from the bottom. every day we were there someone on the boat found good sized meg teeth.
Meg teeth look like teeth to me. But, if someone of stature back in ancient times told me they were from dragons, id pribably believe them. That is why you should look into things we are not quite sure of...😊
back in ancient times they used to call fossil shark teeth "tongue stones". They didn't know what they were but they resembled tongues made of rock. it wasn't until the 1600s that someone noticed how similar shark teeth were to those, but they didn't know anything about fossilization. Its very interesting how knowledge is gained over time!
I’m jealous
I’d love to do this with my son! I’d be a blast!
its very fun I'm sure he would enjoy it. there are people who lead tours in many places where they can be found so it shouldnt be hard to get on some teeth. good luck to yall!

@@bebop4874 I haven't gone on a tour with any of them so I haven't seen where they hunt. Presumably they are all taking people to spots where big ones can be found, but I don't know where they are going. I see them mostly on Instagram so that might be a good place to look around.

Hello there I'm planning a trip to the Carolina's just for megalodon teeth hunting. Where are the best places to go for a person that isn't from there.
hi, megalodon teeth can be found in both north and south carolina. im not aware of any tour guides in north carolina but there are a bunch of them in the charleston south carolina area,. best recommendation would be to figure out who you want to go with and then ask them where you should stay in town to be closer to the hunting spot. charleston is a big place.
When ya booking that trip to come dig with me?

thank you!
I would love to have just one shark tooth, it wouldn't matter what type of shark although a Megalodon would be nice. I fell in love with sharks after I watched - JAWS.
You're in luck - shark teeth are found all over the world. They are very easy to find. Look on beaches, river banks, quarries, canals, etc. For example, in Venice Beach Florida and neighboring Casperson beach, people find shark teeth washing up on the beach all day, every day. most are small, but they are there for the finding. Bigger ones like megalodon teeth are tougher to find - not because they are super rare but because they are easy to see so they get picked up right away. I hope you can find one, but at a minimum I hope you can enjoy the hunt. thanks for watching!
Still watching to this day! Thanks for keep making these videos
thats awesome thank you for watching!
Maybe make a remake of this video with your sons? If you can. The younger one is probably now a man
that's not a bad idea. the young one is almost 24 now!
Awesome finds! You guys definitely have a sharp eye and finely tuned senses on the end of the shovel to detect those things. I was looking at one of the big ones and was just waiting for it to become more obvious for my eyeballs. I got a trip in last weekend up in your neck of the woods. Caught the weather just right, and the beautiful smaller teeth were fairly plentiful and some fairly well-used/tumbled schmediums wound up in the bag also. Although I am down in south Alabama and sometimes wish I lived in either Florida or South Carolina for the teeth, it is nice to be about equidistant from the two and also have some quality Alabama teeth to hunt in between the bigger trips! Your videos keep me going in between hunts. Your and Diva’s channels are the best out there for regular videos and great finds! I know it’s a labor of love to put content out there regularly.
what a fantastic comment thank you so much! congratulations on your finds its not easy these days. like you, i love Florida. We just got back from there last week and made some awesome finds (videos coming soon!) but hunting is pretty good right here also. I have to say I prefer Florida because everytime I'm there I have a vacation vibe which adds another level of enjoyment and relaxation that I don't have here in SC. i would say i would get the same vaca vibe if we visited Alabama again too. We did some hunting there a few years back for Brooksellas and that was fun but they aren't as exciting as shark teeth. it was just cool to search for and find something so extremely old. thanks for watching and for your compliment!
When I see these, they are every bit "Dinasaur" to me! Amazing save K! I understand your way forward so much better now! I love it. Stunning. Now I must find some more artifacts!!
they are definitely old and fun to find. Good luck out there I hope y'all get some rain so you can score some goodies!

@@blackriverfossils idk how yall find so many megs lmao I still haven't found one
@@LoganFerguson99 we have been very lucky with finding productive sites, that's all. keep exploring, keep hunting & eventually you will find a meg.
I wonder if u guys in SC have the same species of cowshark as us in the Netherlands/ Belgium, our species are Notorynchus primigenius and hexanchus griseus
that's a great question. nobody has ever done any research on this particular formation but it must be early pleistocene at oldest because I have found mastodon, tapir, and horse fossils in it. Since the cow sharks are pristine they are most likely pleistocene in age. I've been calling them N. primigenius because they match almost identically to those I found in the Lee Creek mine in Aurora NC which are identified as N. primigenius. I haven't found any hexanchus teeth out there yet but I'll keep looking!
@@blackriverfossils Wow what an unique Formation! Now for the whole mastodon tooth!
@@blackriverfossils and if u want i can try to look if they match N. Primigenius

How many teeth do you think you have now?
several hundred thousand at least if you consider the little ones too.
@@blackriverfossils you should pick out all the best ones and put them in your collection and sell the rest. You’d make a fortune!
@@OCMama i'd be lying if i said it never crossed my mind but its a slippery slope. this is an incredible hobby and I've loved it for a lifetime, but if I started selling it would quickly become a job and I fear that might take all the fun out of it. i dont have infinite storage space though so there will come a time when I have to let some go. The crystals will go before the teeth though haha!

I wish we had gravel deposits like this in Australia! You guys should really count your blessings!
believe me I feel very fortunate to have such rich hunting where I live. Australia is a huge country there probably is formation like that somewhere.
@@blackriverfossils there could be but not that I know of haha. There are some gravel deposits in the gold fields, but they’ve all been heavily disturbed. Not sure if they had any teeth in them or not.
@@-dystopic- i have definitely heard of people finding fossil shark teeth in Australia, and I've seen some worn ones so to me that implies the same kind of conditions that created the formations here. i read an article one time about megalodon teeth found in New South Wales in a river. If they are there, they should be other places too. We watched a show about people metal detecting for gold nuggets in the Australian gold fields and they didn't mention shark teeth. We regularly watch another show called Outback Opal Hunters and they find opalized shells way inland. I know that's not shark teeth but its very cool still!
@@blackriverfossils mmm I know about the opals & the alluvial gold is found in gravel beds, so they may hold teeth too. I’ll have to do some more research!
@@-dystopic- good luck I hope you figure out some good info and are able to find some nice teeth!

thanks for dropping back by for a visit!
Awesome finds!!! Do you know the correlation between vertebrae size and the length of the shark? I know it depends on the position. Is it similar to 1 inch of tooth~ 10ft ft of length? Thank you!
that's a great question, there has to be a correlation but I don't know what it is. In my set of associated hemipristis, the largest vertebrae are almost 2 inches in diameter and the biggest tooth is around 1.25 inches.
Seems like you need to set up a sales site or a local show and purge some of your lesser finds. You da man!
