What a Megalodon Hunt this Was!

  • The thrill of the hunt is addicting. Its what continues to drive me to collect after all these decades, even after all the hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, of shark teeth I have found. I never know what I'm going to find and I am compelled to look. What else am I going to do? Not collect? That is not an option! If there is a spot to go, I'm going to go. Even though the species are the same, the teeth aren't. Every tooth is unique, no two are identical. Especially when you consider the big guys. There is so much more canvas for nature to craft a distinct treasure! Collecting trips are the same way. Wondering what the collecting area will look like today, whether there is new formation exposed or will I have to dig off a ton of overburden to get to the layer. Then, once I get to the layer, what will it be like? Will it be pea gravel or boulders? What color will it be? How thick? Is it sandy or full of clay? How about the weather? Might we catch a glimpse of some animal out exploring? So many variables, no hunt is ever the same. The questions are only answered at the end of the day, and today I came home happy. What a megalodon hunt this was!

    What a great hunt I'm happy for you!👏👏 The mineralization on the black tooth was out of this world. When I was digging in Bako I noticed that the teeth closer to the edge of the cut had more mineralization due to the ground water percolating through the soil. A lot of the teeth had the lightning strikes running through them. Thank you for sharing your video I do appreciate it.

      I'm quite sure it'll work out fine. I'm in the middle of polishing a inherited agate collection of probably 50 years. Middle Oregon Beach banded agates, many black/blue's.

    I like the colors on 81 myself.. I watched this TV series called life on our planet and it kinda went over the different stages of life since the very beginning. I thought it was cool. Crazy to learn and think about the 5 major mass extinction we went threw and how life just prevail afterwards.. crazy and the human race havnt even been here for spec of the time..

    • @blackriverfossils
      @blackriverfossils  Před 6 měsíci +1

      i watched that series too it was very interesting! so eye opening all the different events that have caused those mass extinctions. if I had to guess the cause of the 6th mass extinction, it would be humanity unfortunately, despite us just being a blip on the geologic timescale.

      @@blackriverfossils I agree on the humanity party 100 percent. I can only imagine what this world would look like in 5 10 million years from now

    • @blackriverfossils
      @blackriverfossils  Před 6 měsíci

      @@dewey_digginnc4946 there was this documentary called Life After People that goes into what would happen to the planet after humans are gone. Very interesting show if you haven't seen it. Millions of years into the future, I think Earth will be back into a normal geologic cycle. The sea level will either be much higher than now or much lower. The ocean level has always fluctuated. I don't have any proof of this but I actually think we are still in the ice age, we are just living at the very end of it. When the ice is gone and the seas are at their full might, they can absorb more carbon out of the air and higher oceanic levels will provide more habitat for corals to thrive and redeposit that carbon into limestone which will lower the global temperature and put us back into another ice age. That is unless some super volcano fills the atmosphere with sulfur and super heats us like Venus boiling off the ocean putting all that water into the atmosphere forming a huge blanket forever preventing the formation of surface ice again. But then again a rogue asteroid strike could change all that. Or aliens. Or the sun goes red giant before the scientists say. Maybe a neighboring star goes super nova and decimates us? Don't count out miniature high speed black holes. So many ways for earth to go out its amazing we made it this far! I'm hopeful that humanity will be a galactic species by then and we will survive all around the universe and we can hunt fossils or extant monsters on another planet. Its gonna be a crazy future regardless.
