He did many wrong things, but not because he was evil. He did it because he got broken and corrupted. Seeing so much suffering, pain and death and beeing unable to help, broke something in prince Arthas mind, causing him to take drastic methods and making wrong decisions. Frostmourne just finished the little that was left of Arthas.

he fought till the very end. always kept jainas pendant close to his heart....and held back the true might of the scourge. too bad it was too late to save him.
I already thought that Arthas and his Scourge was at its peak in Wrath
He very well knew what frostmourne will do to him curse wise. He didn't accept it to save his people, that's just how he fools himself to believe himself is a victim to curse of frostmourne. He took that sword for its power and his obsession for doing good/just. If you are doing harm by obsessing with doing just, then it is no longer a worthy cause. Same goes for Anakin Skywalker. But 2 are good characters (story wise) anyway (counting arthas and lich king as one and anakin and Darth Vader as one).

Haven't played in 8 years, but i remember those lines. Coupled with the excellent performance in the video here, I nearly cried. Blizzard were masters at their craft.

Stunning performance, it carries the soul-shaking feelings of this song. This music never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I grew up on this stuff. The meaning and emotion of the story it tells is so great and sad It's almost hard to handle.

Arthas - One of my favourite characters and stories of all time. Someone who was so desperate to save his people he'd do anything; only to be broken down and molded into its, and one of Azeroth's, worst enemies. His story is so tragic, and yet I love it.

@@twisted_nether373 mostly because WoWs previous music excelled at connecting with the heroes/villains personalities and stories,for example Anduins theme on legion was one of the most amazing ones. we just need those deep characters back. the ones like arthas. like Illidan. but that will not happen. mostly since we go through the expansions with all the new characters,whereas they had entire expansions to be built upon previously. we met arthas in Wc3,then heard about scourge and hints of it through classic,then it was quite silent during tbc,when we confronted illidan who was also connected in a way to Arthas,before going to arthas in wotlk. but thats not something that happens in the newer expansions. most of the villains you meet,youll kill or beat that expansion,which in turn doesnt make any of them stick,or make them feel dangerous or memorable,no matter how good their design or looks are. :/

This was an amazing performance by Jillian. The fact that people are "talking only about Arthas" means that she nailed this piece and managed to completely put us all back in time 13 years ago when we all unfolded Arthas' story. She managed to make us time travel.

why everybody talks about arthas and not the solo singer who performed? This is the best performance I've come across so far. She's a great singer, probably the best intonation closest to the soundtrack and able to hold it so well at high pitches. This was beautiful
@Grey Knight I would agree if the video was just about the music, if u are searching for a live performance it's different. Since it is a performance what you are looking for is people trying to replicate the "studio quality" or how close to the original it can be else you would just listen to the soundtrack. But hey maybe my view is influenced because I'm a musician myself, so it gives me a different perspective

The song already has a very sad tone to it and it usually makes me tear up a bit.
But then they show the Icecrown citadel raid and all the memories came back from that time.
All that effort to stop the madness that had overtaken Arthas. I didn't raid to get ridiculous upgrades, I raided to see the end to Arthas' story.
Wrath was probably the best time I've every played in WoW. I made so many lasting friends whom I play with even still to this day.

Arthas is a tragic story of a man who accepts a curse to save his people and is ultimately consumed by the fate the warning on frostmourne warning said it had power that "scarred the soul." And the irony in the fact that he actually he is mainly caused the destruction of his people.

The one boss fight where when it was finally achieved, I sat crying, those who had helped me hearing it in vent.. and not a word said. They understood. Arthas was a *itch to down back then.
I relate so hard. The sheer struggle it was to take him down really added to the emotional weight of having to kill him. The best lore character in wow IMO, and one of the best villains in all of fiction.

Is Arthas' story is similar to the one of Anakin Skywalker?
Some parallels can be drawn, yes. Both rebellious young champions of the light, manipulated to fall to the dark side, betraying everyone they once loved and protected. Vader never became the master, but Arthas became the Lich King. Vader still had some good in him, but Arthas made sure to purge everything left from his humanity by cutting his own heart out, containing the last spark of light. -In WoW, the quest-line in which you find his heart in a deep pit was pretty memorable for me. Here you meet a ghost child who turns out to be the embodiment of the good left from Arthas in his frozen heart. - In the end Anakin redeemed himself, but Arthas was evil until the very end, he maybe regained some of his personality when he was dying but not sure.
Kind of. The parallel continues to run into the end of Arthas' Story atop Icecrown Citadel too - it's heavily hinted at that once Arthas had the power of the Lich King, that he held back the scourge army as much as he could. (though this may have been left to bring us into the citadel so he could spring the trap to kill the raid team and raise them as new generals of the Scourge)
I'd say overall the manipulation of Anakin went deeper than that or Arthas. At a certain point Arthas just stopped caring and wanted power. In Vader's case he ends up embracing the Dark Side because at that point he essentially has nothing else left - the journey to achieve his power, cost him everything he wanted it for. While the BEGINNING of Arthas' journey also has this trait, it was the decisions to take up frostmourne and put on the helm of domination - actions he did essentially of his own free will - that set the two apart.
Sadettin ARSLAN not really. Arthas was always actually doing the best he could and with the most noble intentions - Anakin already became evil way before he joined the dark side. Arthas fell down because he did everything too right, Anakin fell to selfishness. Anakin cared for about one womens love, Arthas was ready to sacrifice the love to protect his people. Arthas is a really really deep character. He did everything right and failed because of that and finally became the destroyer of what he loved so much that he gave up everything to protect it. Arthas has way more in common with nerzhul than with Anakin. nerzhul too did the best he could but unlike Arthas he saw the trap before it was too late and drew back, tried to correct his wrong but got pushed aside by Guldhan. In the end however Nerzhul too destroyed what he tried to protect. by the way a common WoW Character concept, same goes for Garrosh, same goes for Illidan...
Anakin's primary motivation was to end suffering. Due to the romanticised view of the jedi and his late entry into training, he viewed the way to achieve this as 'being more powerful'.
This is why he would get so frustrated with his progress, why he viewed cherished mentors like Obi-Wan and Yoda as 'holding him back'. It's also the only real reason why Palpatine got his claws into Skywalker.
Arthas was right at Stratholme, i'll say that much. But once he got to Northrend he was a Well Intentioned Extremist at best - less like a paladin, more like a templar, willing to throw lives away for no real gain. He loses sympathy over time until he finally takes up Frostmourne (remember, he actively chose to do this) and loses his soul. Simply put, there is a reason why Arthas' powers with the Light were waning over time - he had a streak in him that was NOT good. To the point where even his ordaining as a paladin was almost a failure.
