Man this is incredibly bittersweet. The cutscene and premise behind SL was absolutely amazing....and it was ruined by poor writing and systems. What a bloody shame.
I feel like they wanted to direct the story somewhere else with Sylvanas actually being in the right and also Jailer... But people were whining how much they hated her for her "crimes" and the woke being so stronk that they hated fictional character that the idea was scrapped and they just made her second Uther.
I think the premise was bad in itself. The moment you show the "other side" you ruin it. Afterlife in games or any piece of media should always be a mystery imo. The Shadowlands btw is probably the worst afterlife I've seen in any media on top of that.
They know how to make good cinematics. There is no room for bias, greed or corruption in these things, unlike their games. What you get is pure epic awesomeness. Too bad they let their greed dictate their way in game making.
Battle for Azeroth is the epitome of this. They released a trailer about getting back to the good ole horde vs alliance like we've been wanting for years. Then switch baited us for the trash we did end up getting. Shadowlands cinematic being this good should've told me the game was going to be trash again.
I feel like the amount of hype shown when we got to icecrown's spire in this cinematic is exactly the showing of why we're all still here. Warcraft devs definitely pulled a goodie by returning to one of the best villains and expansions in warcraft and pushing into a new one FROM it. Also I screamed when Bolvar showed up and his palatte changed from his red to the lich's blue cause, uh, YES

He's been red since the expansion storyline and the dk storyline in legion showed he was slowly integrating to becoming the lich King fully, similar to arthas. The shift in pallet both ways in this is showing as bolvar, then the lich King, then as the crown is taken, bolvar again.
Sylvanas just wanted to farm the mount, but after she didnt get it for the 400th time on her 30th alt, she just got a little to enraged. Understandable

Crazy story, I first watched this cinematic in the hospital during a 2 1/2 month stay following major reconstructive surgery, and then proceeded to play the crap out of Shadowlands while undergoing over a year of rehabilitation. I contacted my old friends on WoW from the hospital bed and planned to jump back in, proceeding to make my way into a guild and end up defeating Sylvanas on mythic and get Cutting Edge!
You could feel the hype just completely drain out of the room the very moment people started realizing Sylvanas was gonna win yet again with no repercussions, yet again. Look at the hype at the mere sight of Bolvar vs the confusion and "the fuck did I just watch" at the end. This cinematic was amazingly well made, let's not get it twisted. The story is just something different now, something (I believe) most people have no connection or interest in.
Yeah, they gave her so much plot armour it wasn't even fun anymore. How Bolvar didn't even scratch her. Honestly just a huge disrespect to the entire past lore of Warcraft and The Lich King

When the sky shattered, I think that legitimately was one of the few times the community was caught off guard by blizzard.

Expectation vs reality....
Crazy story, I first watched this cinematic in the hospital during a 2 1/2 month stay following major reconstructive surgery, and then proceeded to play the crap out of Shadowlands while undergoing over a year of rehabilitation. I contacted my old friends on WoW from the hospital bed and planned to jump back in, proceeding to make my way into a guild and end up defeating Sylvanas on mythic and get Cutting Edge!

How did you endure Korthia? Made me quit the game straight after progress was done.
You could feel the hype just completely drain out of the room the very moment people started realizing Sylvanas was gonna win yet again with no repercussions, yet again. Look at the hype at the mere sight of Bolvar vs the confusion and "the fuck did I just watch" at the end. This cinematic was amazingly well made, let's not get it twisted. The story is just something different now, something (I believe) most people have no connection or interest in.
Yeah, they gave her so much plot armour it wasn't even fun anymore. How Bolvar didn't even scratch her. Honestly just a huge disrespect to the entire past lore of Warcraft and The Lich King

And cinematic was great.I was shock slyvanas wasn't wear lich King mask.
Some people STILL don't realize that Arthas was on a completely different level as Lich King. He was already a monster with frostmourne killing people like Uther and defeating legends like Illidan Stormrage THEN became Lich king.
Bolvar did not have Frostmourne, wasn't nearly as strong as Arthas before becoming the new Lich king. Come on people it's simple ...
@John Rock Because she's actually getting more powerful from outside sources ... that's like saying: Omg lazy writing, Arthas went from not being able to beat Mal'ganis to beating illidan and actually all heroes of Azeroth ... all because he keeps getting legendary mythical sword and a helmet.
