Dutch and Belgian politics differ a lot. Belgium is used to compromise with Flanders and Wallonia, they are often hesitant if they disagree with something. Dutch politics is known for being straightforward, sometimes to the point of rudeness. they are pragmatic and not so patient with "evasive or denying behavior". You often see this in the country. Flanders is more conservative, so that the old cities remain in glory. ..but also a lot of decay takes place in the suburbs. this does not only concern the buildings, but mainly the roads and social facilities. The Dutch complain a lot. Because they are spoiled by the well organized political system. In the Netherlands, jokes are often made about the Flemish roads, while in Flanders there is a lot of laughter about the "agreedness" of the Dutchman.

Romania in Europe isn't a small country. For me it would be ideal if the big countries were divided. Europe was much better divided like that. Big unifications led to nationalism and finally to 2 world wars.

@@mikehoot3978 damn you're really dumber than I thought. Yes, Latin America has the same religion and language as Spain, plus some customs inspired as well, but why is that? Because they were colonized!! Moldova wasn't colonized nor conquered by Romania (because it didn't exist until 19th century, there were two principalities, Wallachia and Moldavia) , yet they have the same language, same traditions, beliefs and history! Have you ever heard about Dacia? Not the car brand, but the historical region in Europe from the ancient times. You know what region was part of it? 90% of historical Moldavia and the rest of present day Romania. So it's only right they united, right? At least that's what MOLDOVA thought, that's why they sent the union proposal to Wallachia back in the 19th century and that's how Romania was formed. I'd say you're the one who needs to learn some history, I'm pretty sure you know nothing about Romania's past, yet here you are, commenting without having any idea of what you are talking about. And by the way, what nationalism? There's nothing nationalist about it, it's the desire of the romanians to unite with their fellow countrymen, a sentiment that is starting to grow on the other side of the Prut each year, so you can expect it to happen in about 30 years. And Romania still wouldn't be considered big for European standards, it'd be like half the size of Spain, and wayyyy smaller than its neighbor, Ukraine, which is the 2nd largest country in the continent. So, once again, you need to investigate a little bit more 😉.

The language is not similar, is IDENTICAL (just with different accents). In both Romania and Moldova it's generaly seen as only a matter of time, international political context (EU) and, maybe, some economical context (as neither can afford the cost of unification at the moment). And we both see it and speak about it as RE-unification.

During the short period Moldova was part of Romania, and during contemporary interactions, Moldovans have felt that Romanians look down upon them. Nowadays, when Moldovans visit Romania, they prefer to speak Russian amongst themselves, in order to avoid condescending remarks about their dialect. Similar is the case of Bulgaria and North Macedonia. There, too, they share history and language, and the old capital of Bulgaria (Ohrid) is nowadays in North Macedonia, but the two times when Bulgarians entered the territory of North Macedonia, they were first received as liberators but the humiliating attitudes of the Bulgarians changed that very soon.

Our AN (algemeen nederlands/ official dutch) is almost the same as the dutch language, but we actually speak flemish in the way that we have many more and different words than the dutch people, also region dependant. The dutch really struggle to understand people from antwerp for example as far as I know and at some time, our languages will seperate completely. This is important because many people assume that, "because we speak the same language and we once were united, we should unite again". Thats totally not how it works

And for the poorer French-speaking regions of Belgium, there is just that incentive. Only Luxembourg would have a reason not to unite because they would lose their tax-haven status.

Lithuanians with Estonians?? okey, there is this problem, that i really haven't heard that they would have some connection. Not Nordic, not Eastern European. No Estonian even cares to "be a nordic". Some people play along with the meme, but now so many foreigners actually think Estonia os desperate to leave Baltics and "be Nordic", whatever that even means. Its not cold war era anymore, where the iron curtain separates east and west, communism and democracy.. UN labels all of Baltics as NORTHERN EUROPE. Thats what it is.

I am from Northern Ireland and I don't want a referendum on Irish unity yet, although during Brexit I voted to remain in the EU as did more people from Northern Ireland than who voted leave and some have used Brexit as an excuse to call for a referendum since Ireland is in the EU and we won't be. However I find that isn't the right time since we haven't been out of the EU long enough to know how that changes things. However, I personally see myself as "Northern Irish" which is that although we have similarities to the republic of Ireland, we are distinct in different ways, and we have differences that separate us from mainland Britain also. I live on the east coast which unless you live closer to the south east, is closer in distance to Scotland than it is to the boarder with the Republic of Ireland and for various reasons, I often feel more of a connection to Scotland than I do the rest of Ireland. I could be wrong on this, but I have found that its often people who live in and around boarder areas that want a boarder poll for a referendum more.
If a referendum was to be held, all the main differences in things like the economy, politics, services etc... there would need to be a plan to sort them out first and with anyone calling for a referendum, I haven't yet heard anyone say how those differences be sorted. Anyway I think there has to be a high majority of people in Northern Ireland that would have to vote yes to reunification as some have said if the vote is 51% or higher to unite, then that should be a reason to unite, but that is too close if its only just over half the population as that isn't the vast majority of people wanting it.

Regarding the closeness of Estonia and Latvia🇪🇪🇱🇻:
There were different tribes and people living in today's area of Latvia. Latgalians, Selonians, Semigallians, Curonians (all four Indo-European Baltic tribes) and Livonians (Uralic Balto-Finnic tribe). More than 1/3 of this area was inhabited by Livonians. These people never really "died" away all together or something. Instead all of the five mentioned tribes melted together while (even nowadays) shifting their language to Latvian making up the modern people of the Latvians and leaving behind tons of Finnic features in the Latvian culture and language (both vocabulary- and especially pronunciation-wise).
Today approximately 30 and up to 50% of all Latvians have Livonian descent. That is the reason why the genetically closest relatives of Latvians aren't only Lithuanians but Estonians as well.
That's why I (as a Latvian) think Latvians are somewhat and should bee seen as a Baltic-Balto-Finnic nation/ethnicity.
I hope we as a nation will revive this beautiful language and thereby enrich our outstanding culture even more and finally get closer to our forgotten Uralic/Finnic brothers of Estonia and Finland.

There is a lot more cooperation in the Benelux than you say. For instance in the domain of defence. There exists an agreement between the three countries that one day Belgium has some fighters in the air, checking the territories of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourgh. The other it are Dutch fighters which do the same. And this is just one example.

Lol. Belgium contains 4 cultures already. Now try mixing this with Luxembourgish culture and Dutch culture and you have 6 cultures in a single nation where there would be a dual monarchy or one monarch would have to relinquish their crown. Never going to happen....

Also the Germans are integrated into Walloonia and all of them speak fluently French. All 3 cultures are actually very similar with some minor details here and there. Also the next heirs of Belgium and the Netherlands aren't married yet. Maybe we could unite the houses and they could become the first lesbian heads of state in the world. Now that would be a real compromise. If you would ask me, fuck the monarchy. The Belgian monarchy are the descendents of Leopold II. It's like having Hitlers grandchildren for a king. No thanks. I am from Romania and we consider our neighbors from Moldova like our brothers. Many artists and people în general come to Romania for a better life and we would like to be reunited. It's unikey with the big influence of Russia in Moldova, but we like the idea of a reunification.
