That had to be post WWII. Can't imagine that was even a thing in the decades prior, because before Hiroshima, Japan was INSUFFERABLY proud of their own superiority as a country.

As someone from Southeast Asia (Philippines, btw), I must say that many people from Illinois wanting Chicago to be a State is kinda funny since that's exactly how Singapore happened (they were evicted from Malaysia).
It's because there were so many ethnic Chinese in Singapore right??? Gonna give it to them, they showed em how to do it 😂.
I have been to Singapore and jumped on a coach to Malaysia, although some upheaval the Singaporeans left Malaysia with the Singaporeans having halal meat in the KFC and Macdonald's in respect of their largest minority
Muslims!
Singaporian independence is unique as the Malaysian government was so racist that they wouldn't allow Singapore to stay a part of Malaysia.
That and Malaysia was also afraid that Singapore would become the heart of Malaysia; which based on how powerful they have become now despite being a city-state, they were right to be concerned.
@ChiCub137 must say, I want Chicago to become a state because the rest of us barely have a say in elections >:(
“Get the hell out!” Lol
Washington, D.C. has the entire House of Representatives and Senate representing their interests, plus all the aides who actually run the government. Washington, after all, is one of the wealthiest places in the United States despite providing almost no useful goods or services.
Besides this, D.C. cannot constitutionally be a state unless it ceases to be the capital - and in that case the most reasonable thing would be to return the city to the state which donated the land, Maryland.

I think you shouldn't have lied about your Puerto Rico Poll results. The Incorporated Territory of PR is split near 50/50 on being a state and stating where they are as a majority want statehood is the most uninformed "fact" I've ever seen on this channel.
If you look at the two main political parties in Puerto Rico, PPD (Popular Democratic Party (47% of the vote, wants to be a unincorporated territory), against the the PNP (New Progressive Party, want's to be a state, 47% of the vote) are split evenly, roughly 47%/47%. You cherry picked a election which the PNP BOYCOTTED! From Wikipedia "Those who voted overwhelmingly chose statehood by 97%. This figure is attributed to a boycott led by the pro-status quo PPD party, which resulted in a 22.93% turnout."
Read Wikipedia, I'm commenting on a video with 1.1 million subs and I know more then you... Let that sink in.
Edit: One last thing to say to Americanize this. PR Statehood is a very partisan battle, think MSNBC vs FOX but a hell of a lot more on the line on this island. Anyone reading this I'd highly encourage reading about the history of statehood in PR. PR has advantages for not being a state and advantages for being one. It's quite complex and of course it all comes down to money. Please look this up.
Also like Hamburg and Bremen at Germany.
Who lied, Balljoint? Maybe if you actually listened to the video you would not have needed to post that long comment. He stated very clearly in the video that only 23% of people voted in that referendum that found 97% support for statehood.
DC and Puerto Rico, together. Then we could be "The Fabulous 52" (which was the name of a TV-movie show in L.A. when I was a kid). Each state could have its own official Week of the Year and its own official Playing Card of the Standard deck.
I actually really like this idea
NEVER
The Possession that if becomes a Territory would be a recipe for a border dispute, would be the Guantanamo Bay, where the U.S. shares a (land) border with Cuba. And if Midway were to finally become a Territory, the Midway would be a tourist attraction similar to Britain's island of Bermuda. And Midway consists of 2 islands, not just 1. And a combined land area similar to that of Bermuda. The tiniest possession to possibly become a Territory would be Navassa Island near Haiti and Cuba, with a land area of only 3 square miles.

Such a stupid idea... If you’re going to make Chicago its own state, then every other large city in a state without other large cities gets to be its own state. Seattle, Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Portland, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Phoenix, New Orleans, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Boston, and Honolulu would all get to be states too.
@@whophonenewds4805 Okay I live in Illinois so I know this firsthand. The reason people want Chicago to be its own state is because it has way too much political power. Chicago cannot become a state as it would be a loophole in Constitution. Article 4 Specifically states that no state can be created within a state which means no city within a state may become a separate state
Interesting! Although I keep hearing there is some kind of loophole where California and Texas can separate into multiple states.
I'm from Chicago, and I think it's weird to think people want it its own separate state. I guess I get it, but it's weird.
I have been to Puerto rico ,Guam and Hawaii and let me tell you Guam felt like their own country with their own unique culture.
Hawaii, well I felt weird because although Is a state, the local natives don't like people from the mainland very much(my experience)
And Puerto Rico I have been multiple times and the north area is extremely Americanize but mix with Caribbean culture.,the center of the island (rural) it was a complete different experience like being in the appalachian mountains in the US.and the south west went I first visited a long time ago it was a simpler beach vibes but went I visited again recently it more Americanize well more like gentrification.... even in some of the smaller towns you always find people that speak English and you can see the American influence in the area.
So my opinion an outsider is that Puerto Rico is the most likely to become a state compared to the other ones.
Puerto rico needs to speak English more before statehood. But yes it is the most likely and most deserving.
You missed Washington DC bro. It is 100% Americanized.
I appreciate the fact that you went to those territories before making your judgments. However, I am puertorican, born and raised. I have seen how the new generations have grown a strong puertorican identity after considering what happened in Hawai'i. They were forced to adapt to American culture by prohibiting their language, costums, etc. Taking into consideration that Puerto Rico is bigger than Hawai'i in size and population. For a long time, we were banned from waving our flag, speaking our language, and showing any cultural traditions. But with PR, it was not that easy to eradicate our culture. Nowadays, it's very common that when you ask young people what do they think about the US. Most of them say that prefer independence or that they don't really like the displacing of puertoricans by Americans with the arrival of airbnbs. Apart from the fact that a lot of tourists do not respect the laws, culture, and way of living of us the locals.

@Sean Greenfield I agree, it’s the reason so many of us live in VA and MD in the first place.
Puerto Rico/Virgin Island and Guam/Northern Mariana Islands. Reason I have them paired up is due to logistics with their geographic vicinity to each other compared to the rest of the US. In my opinion would make them easier to govern rather than having them separated. Obviously agreements would need to be made as they function separately from each other right now.
I agree with the Chicago thing. It's like the SeaTac area here in WA state.
Point of fact: Guam is the furthest east American territory. A motto of there's is, "Where the sun rises first in America".

Yes I expect that Puerto Rico will be the 51st day but being from Michigan I certainly hope that Superior becomes a state. Because the Yoopers are so different from the rest of us michiganders. And I want them to be able to be their own State

Oh ok "Pearl Harbor War" I'll just pretend I didn't hear that.
The pearl harbor attack by Japan was just the final straw that draw us into world war II
@@cougarman007 I hope your not defending "pearl harbor war" if so you said it yourself it was an "attack" not a war
@@shme1601 That is what I said! it was the final straw that pulled us into the war.
cougarman007 but it in and of itself was not a war, it was an attack that triggered america to declare war on japan, which through some great political desisions on germanys part entered the USA into the war
Personally, I think there should be 3 new states: DC, Pueto Rico, and "American Pacific". DC is pretty self-explanatory. IN my opinion, the state of Puerto Rico should get all US territories in the Carribean.
The state of American Pacific would basically be all American territory in Pacific Ocean that isn't already part of Hawaii. This would includ Guam, American Samoa, and all the other American Islands in the Pacific.
The US constitution forbids DC from becoming a state
I don’t think that the people in those regions would want to be governed by others. That’s like saying that the entire southwest should’ve been Texas.
@@1370802 Guam+Marianas make sense.
America likes to make 2 states at a time to "keep the voting numbers even". That makes the question what will be the 51st and 52nd states added to the union.
The process of admitting new states goes like this - One State Two State Red State Blue State
Wrong! Read the Constitution.
Javier Arvelo-Cruz-Santana while it doesn’t say that in the Constitution, I am making an observation based on US history. Often, especially before the Civil War, two states would be added in a year, a free state and a slave state.
@@patstudios1184 only this time, any new state would almost certainly be a solid blue. any new red counterpart would need to be carved out of an existing state(s) a la jefferson or upstate new york... conservatives are currently a minority party and any new state will exacerbate their minority status.
NewPaulActs17 I agree, which is why it has been so hard to get a 51st state

American Samoa seems fine with their current status so I doubt they’ll become a state soon. But Puerto Rico? Definitely

Puerto Rico won’t be state. Not in it’s current state at the very least.

Little correction: Berlin is a full "state" or "Bundesland" as it is called in germany like any other "state". It doesn't have any special status. There are two more "states" that are just cities as seen on the shown map. They are called "Bremen" (contains Bremen and Bremerhaven) and "Hamburg". They don't have any special status as well.
Bundesländer
= Federal State
I thought this argument was strange as well, because I’m Mexican and the Federal District (Mexico City) has been granted statehood.
I think that the US government is going to say they will not make a 51st state like how LucasFilm said they wouldn't make another Star Wars movie, yet they still make it, but technically not canon. Basically they will not make states, only territories or occupied zones or whatever.
They used to add an extra stripe for each new state but quickly realized it would eventually be to many stripes, I think we would come across a point where stars would become a problem, maybe states could merge?
Wrong. What they did is added a stripe for each of the first 13 colonies
@@bradleysteinhardt8460 When Kentucky and Vermont became states the US flag had 15 stripes on it, the government realized this was going to be a problem as it would get too crowded to be plausible flag. So, they changed it back to 13 to honor the original colonies.
