    If you want slicey knives go to Spyderco but heaven help you if you ever drop it or use it hard cause the tip will pop off (ref. PM2). The 940 was built for ranch work. Maybe not at first but it is one of the best to fill that void. I’ve had 940’s off and on for almost 20 years and all have been great. They don’t excel at any one thing but they’ll do the jobs of 5 different knives. I always considered it a Jack of all trades kinda blade.

    One thing I have learned is just because some You Tube reviewer likes something ( or dislikes ) doesn’t mean it’s the way I’ll feel about it. I wish I had the money in my pocket of the many knives I’ve bought based on some review. To each his own

    I don't know how you could look at the blade stock's thickness and the grind and expect the knife to slice like a Spiderco. They're literally built for different purposes and advertised as such. The entire selling point and marketing for the 940 is that it's a hard-use folder designed by a dude who worked on a ranch. That does not scream "slicey" to me, and I don't get how people are dissing the knife because of it, but don't diss Spiderco knives for the opposite.
    "For the average person, I don't think this is a knife you'll enjoy" - as she holds one of the top 3 most popular folding knives ever made, in the world. Proving that the average person does in fact love it. I'm confused.

    In my experience the 940 is slicy with just a bit of extra force. Also loving these kind of reviews, better than typical knife reviews

      I agree. I really don't understand it when people say the 940 isn't a good slicer. It's mind boggling. It's not the best slicer but it definitely isn't a bad slicer. I use it as a slicer probably 90% of the time.

    Had mine for years. Going on 8 or 9 and never had a major failure or complaint. I am not using it for super heavy duty stuff or for precise cutting. I use it as a EDC blade in a florida suburb. Cut boxes, paper, packages, rubber, scrape stuff. Cut rope, zip ties, tape, and pry lightly with it, using the spine. Does my everyday tasks fine. Not a perfect slicer but finding perfect is almost a myth. No one blade is perfect for everything. Good review!!! Good thoughts 👍

  • @danokitemanotoo1791
    @danokitemanotoo1791 Před 2 lety +4

    My thoughts are that if you're having trouble cutting an apple, maybe you shouldn't touch knives at all. That being said, will the 940 cut paper thin slices off of a tomato? Probably not like a FFG Spyderco SpydieChef, but it will still cut a tomato. I've cut plenty of apples with my 940's without fail. I've used my 940 to pry small stuff but EDC a pry tool in my system to use on the bigger jobs where needed. Thanks for the review!

    I've always been interested in the 940. I know it's not going to do it for me the way it does it for wranglerstar, but I would still love to have one eventually. Why do I keep hearing people talk about cutting cardboard with their knives? Is that really what most people are using their knives for??? I cut cardboard pretty regularly but I use a dedicated box cutter/utility knife for that. Why dull a good workhorse knife with cardboard?

    Hi Erica
    Thanks to you, I've picked up a 940!
    I love it, using it with growing veg, caring for chickens, repairing hoses etc!
    You're exactly right, it's not gor everyone, but it is ideal for some, thankfully it works for me!
    I'm thrashing on it and enjoying it!
    Thanks again
    Take care

    I've had a g10/20cv one for awhile (someone's exclusive, I can't remember). It's aight. Might eventually get it reground. I'd be more interested in the 943 but that's discontinued. When I was still working in warehouses and such, I had this and a Contego (with custom smooth scales). I preferred carrying the Contego for all uses. It actually cut.

    Great review. Pretty comparable to my experiences with it.
    I bought mine in 2014 or 2015 and I love the way mine feels in the hand and it did really well in the industrial setting I used it in. My biggest complaint is the blade though. It has always been awful to sharpen and awful at holding an edge. People tell me I'm crazy because S30V is supposed to be a very good blade material, however that is not my experience.

    Best review of the 940 period. I did flooring and worked on a hops field with it and while the blade could pry and scrape, it would develop blade play and I had to re tighten the pivot screw. Also, any dirty environments would gum up the axis lock which was annoying. When I first read the reviews about slicyness I ignored them until I had to cut a bunch of abrasive material. Love your channel you actually use your shit. Once they release a pm3 with a tanto blade I will be set.

    I grew up using old Finnish puukkos and mora type knives because my grandfather immigrated from norway and had many around. Recently I got into the idea of folding pocket knives and tried the 940, I was underwhelmed for sure. Going from knives that cut like razors to the 940 just wasn't going to cut it. The buyout with aluminum handle was much better in that regard.

    My experience has been using as a knife, no prying or doing things another tool is fit for.
    As a regular EDC, for me, it works well, not excellent. I'm at 17dps and use for food cutting, opening and breaking down boxes, regular knife needs. Had I paid full price for either of my 940's, S30 and S90V, I'd say go to different options, its not worth the entry fee.

  • @jimbugar4812
    @jimbugar4812 Před 2 lety +2

    I have watched a few of your videos now and you do a good job. That being said I get what your doing but it’s not a pry-bar. You wouldn’t use a Pm2 as a pry bar. Lol. I think it’s a tough knife but I would not categorize it as a hard use knife. I am a multiple trades tradesman and I would never use my knife as tool it’s not designed for. I use the proper tool for the job. When you use a knife as a screwdriver and a pry bar your going to be let down. I’ve owned this knife for years and yeah it’s not the greatest slicer, but to imply it does not cut is not true. It’s not for everyone that is true, but it’s a quality tough knife. I don’t know Cody but have seen a lot of videos and he doesn’t strike me as a guy who is going to get attached to something that doesn’t work. That being said I recently retired my 940 as my EDC for the Super Freak which is just awesome.

    You’ve said elsewhere that you carry actual multitools. I realize you’re just testing this. But do you think its multitool functions are good enough to justify its poor performance as a knife? The Victorinox Pioneer seems like it would be more functional. Even a Leatherman Rebar or Wave aren’t especially heavy to edc… and they’re WAY more functional. It seems like the 940 was designed for people who just refuse to carry more than one tool.
