To bad no one seems to have heard of Abe Lenstra, this man back in the day got a open check to write down any amount he wanted for him to go to play for Real Madrid, he refused to stay at home. He was an incredible player.

In 11 World Cup matches against Argentina and Brazil, the Netherlands are 5-5-1 and lost only one of those games in regulation (3-2 thriller against Brazil in '94, regarded by many as the best game of that Cup), with all 5 victories coming in regulation. On the other hand, they also fail to qualify for World and Euro Cups sometimes. Still, I always imagine, when a team has to face the Netherlands, they are thinking "Oh, crap! Not these guys again."

Splendid. Yet you make things easier by putting Rijkaard as a right back and Bergkamp as a winger, and the team may lack defensive ability. I would suggest, depending on whether you play in 4-3-3 or in 4-4-2:
433: Van der SAR - Denis; Rijkaard; Koeman or Van Dijk; Krol - Davids; Neeskens; Cruyff - Robben; Van Basten; Rensenbrink.
422: Van der Sar - Denis; Rijkaard; Koeman or Van Dijk; Krol - Davids; Neeskens; Cruyff; Gullit - Van Basten; Bergkamp.

I don’t know enough, I have seen all of them except Van Hannigan; don't remember much about 74, however, what a team! The B team would beat everyone, probably and am glad Dennis is there! Commiserations to Davids and Seedorf. If reality is a simulation from a higher dimension, maybe the Dutch will play the Germans in a substrate we can all watch from ours and enjoy Brazil trying to pick their team : )

I'm italian and if I had to choose one dutch player only I would say Marco Van Basten. And, for the next generation, Joshua Zirkzee who is currently playing in my favourite team Bologna fc.

Placer Cruyff au milieux est surprenant.
Krol était libéro, pas arrière gauche (Suurbier).
J' aurais mis Haan, Van der Kuylen ou Murhen à la place de gullit.
Comme gardien, je n' en vois qu'un : Van Beveren.

Cruyff peut raisonnablement être considéré comme un milieu de terrain tant il décrochait (comme, avant lui, Di Stefano, et dans une certaine mesure, Pelé). Krol était bien arrière gauche (il a gagné trois coupes d’Europe à ce poste et y a disputé la finale de la coupe du monde de 1974. Il est passé au centre sur le tard (comme Bossis en France). Haan ou Muhren étaient des joueurs convenables, sans plus. Rensenbrink est en revanche sous côté : il a été l’un des tout meilleurs joueurs d’Europe entre 1975/76 et 1980.
