Bare in mind Messi has achieved all of this playing in one of the toughest European leagues in the world, meanwhile Maradona spent 9 years outside of Europe not even playing in the toughest leagues. For everyone bitching about ESPN defending Messi...well, even if it's biased, SOMEBODY ought to...I never cared about either Messi OR Ronaldo or this goat debate all that much before this world cup, but right now it's like OPEN SEASON on Messi in every corner of the world, it's actually kind of disgusting. It's one thing for Argentinians or footballers who've played with him before to air their grievances, or for people to dissect why Argentina has been performing so poorly, but the sheer quantity of Messi trash talk out there right now is mind-boggling to me. It's well known he's an introverted person, not very open, not great leaderships skills, and the only reason he's become such a big public figure is purely because of his football skills. He has the most ill-suited personality for the spotlight otherwise. I don't know why people are so surprised he's buckling under this kind of pressure. He wouldn't be suited to captaining even an extremely competent team, and this team is the polar opposite of that. I think it's clear now that Ronaldo is mentally the stronger athlete and better leader. I don't think it needs to be harped on over and over and over again. It's seriously gross that people, both on social media and in the media media, feel the need to literally throw heaps upon heaps of insults and judgments on a person who is already suffocating under the pressure of public opinion.

Mauro Leonardo Mondal You can't make key personel changes in the middle of the tournament and expect success. It takes more than a good coach to have success. It takes cohesion or chemistry between the players and the coaching staff, they have to trust one another. Also you need to build the team's identity with a solid system and a great rotation routine and people with brains to make proper adjustments when the system is not working at its best. Argentina to me never seemed to have unit cohesion or else they could have beaten Iceland 3-1. Messi was nowhere to be found and I didn't recognize Di Maria, he's not the same player I saw in the last world cup. To include the coaching substitution pattern they look tired and defeated from the jump. You can't just show up expect the other team to bow down, you have to perform at the appropriate level to show your opponent that you're the better team. But right now Argentina didn't show any of those things in the last 2 games to include their best player and leader in Messi. It's not over until it's over. They need to come out and show some pride. Forget the coach, Messi needs to show up and perform because that's his legacy on the line. Your attitude is to come out with a vengeance. I expect him to be aggressive, sharp and focused. You have to be the difference maker If you're Messi, no excuses. If not Maradona remains the best player of all time.

Messi did get Argentina to the world cup final 2014. He did save Argentina this year in qualification round. But because of his scoring and winning the mismanagement is not seen!! Players missed passes! Manager told messi to stay in attack. It doesn't work like that. Messi does what he does, he creates he just needs space, and That's what Sampaoli failed to do with any player in the team! Come on! Let's hope Messi is not messi just a left footed striker. Can't Aguero and other strikers be set and trained to make attacks from the sides and score? Why was Icardi left out again? Wait, Argentina played with 3 defenders! They're weak and they played with 3 defenders how wonderful... Midfielders weren't staying in midfield! How wonderful. Constantly missing passes! how wonderful. Can't they play pretending they are playing without Messi? they could have. Wasn't that hard! 2-4 defenders will be marking Messi while taking the advantage others will attack and shoot at goal when ever they get space. (but avoiding defenses which they didn't!) That wasn't done! And that certainly would have given Messi some space to do his work in his way!
Playing 3-4-3 without Di Maria, Dybala, Pavon, Salvio (he put him off when he put Pavon on), Aguero, Rojo, Mashcherano (as defense) and Messi full time is stupid as hell. Di maria, Messi, Aguero, Rojo, Mash, Pavon, Salvio, all have played well together and I can say they have a good chemistry and it's up to the coach to set it up properly in a formation and strategy! Messi was in his best form. and after losing these now he's in depressed form. Come on they can play in any style, Long pass or short pass as they wish! The coach can't find it?! The game needs to be spread out and players need to stay in their positions as near as possible. No attacking plan? then why not a good defense?
Attack need to spread out in the corners without Messi. And if Messi is included they have to give him space as Barcelona does. Or they have to shoot. Not while getting in. and when this is executed messi will surely have some space or. While other players are crossing Messi will have space. They have to give the ball to Messi whenever messi's running, if He can't handle it he'll pass it. I hope doesn't play old players and new or inexperienced players. They need a play. This coach has failed to deliver in my opinion. I could have done the job better if I was in his position. Lose, but why do you have to lose in such a terrible way?!!

Management has been terrible really in the last 30 years, I know we have underachived in the last 4 world cups long before Messi came in the picture. However it's hard to convince me that you could fire the coach in a middle of a mess like this and in a tournament as big as a world cup and expect instant turnaround. All I meant was Messi needs to be stubborn, rally the troops take over this team and make this his team from this point forward. Obviously we need a little luck as well. I believe we can come out and destroy Nigeria and force our way to the death rounds. It's his legacy so he should step his foot down and play like we have nothing to lose and go all out and see what happens. To me he's the best player in the world so we have no room to complain. As long as I see the effort that's good enough for me. We can't give up.
Core Blimey! Messi is Great period! But not the best of all time. Your personality is part and parcel of what makes you a great. For Barcelona in their hey day, of course Messi was incredible. The likes of a prime xavi, iniesta etc was always going to shine, but he has never overcome adversity apart from the beginning of his story.
