Great game, so good to see Dice Tower shining a light on some Brazillian offerings
Yay, y'all finally reviewed it! I'm happy to finally hear your takes on the game 😊. We have it at home and really like it.
I'm glad you went back to cover this one. For me, this was the most attractive looking game I saw last year. I was left hesitant after reading some critiques regarding the luck and impact of the exploration tiles.
I see this game as an efficiency puzzle and race. You want to make your actions as well chained as possible.
However, I have a different take on the combat. Troop placement can be used to limit player expansion, and attacking and controlling a single player building can really hurt their progress. People seem to choose not to fight in the game because you can, but an aggressive strategy can be very successful.
How would you all rate the rule book? I just got through learning "Eleven", and it was a challenge to say the least. Was Brazil Imperial tough to learn as well?
I thought the rule book was great
0:38 we do have cold here! A week after the video release we had 29F just over 160miles from where I live. 😂
5 months later, but I would love to know how this compares to Scythe, and what Mike thinks of this gene if he has played it
I can't believe nobody mentioned Scythe during this review. It's so clearly inspired by that game it amazes me nobody brought it up.
Yeah I feel that way about a lot of reviews, but maybe in general some reviewers may lean away from just comparing games to other games, and try to describe the game singularly. I've never played it, but I thought about scythe when they described it
Scythe isn't as original as you think, it is based on a lot of the same games that this will have been inspired by. As they said, it's a 4x game, that's a whole genre that Scythe happens to slot into but you could have picked all kinds of 4x games to compare it to
Seeing the player mat and the way they described combat reminded me of Scythe as well.
What reminds you of scythe about this game?
@@petergross7235 1) the action selection system, 2) the way resources stay on the board, 3) that the threat of combat is more important than combat itself, 4) the combat system is mostly deterministic except for combat cards, 5) the upgrade system, 6) the fact that actions have occasionally used "bottom row" actions (always movement related, like the Scythe factory card), 7) the way territory types are linked to resource generation. There's lots of echoes of Scythe. That's not to say this game doesn't have other influences or that the game isn't original - there's clearly a lot here that makes it a different game. Also, there are many key elements of Scythe (e.g. money = points, popularity multiplies scoring, the achievement board) that aren't in Brazil.
I really enjoyed this one, but definitely agree that its very much a Euro style 4x. There is combat, but its not the focus of the game. But I'm really happy to see more 4x Euro style games as its kind of a weird mix and already 4x is a genre that isn't super well represented in the hobby it feels. Especially not a 4x you can get done in a couple hours like you can with this one. So to me, the shorter play time of a 4x was also a big draw.
Ótimo review! Brasil mais uma vez representando mundo afora!
Gostei de ver também. Esse tá na minha lista 😆
Great review!
I saw before that there is an official variant that gives little more meaning to the combat.
Well the game has several map configurations that have different levels of confrontation for all tastes.
How does this score in solo play?
the game has an expansion with an automaton to play solo that launched a little while ago, the base game and only for 2-4 players.
nice do, roy. u look like a space pirate. 👍
COME TO BRAZIL!!!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

For us mere mortals, who are woefully uninformed, consider taking 15 seconds to explain what 4x is.
You're right, I realized partway through we should have explained it, so I tried to mention what the 4 Xs stand for and which I thought weren't as impactful in this one. Sometimes we get used to speaking in short-hand when we shouldn't
They are eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate. You typically start at a single location and begin exploring your surroundings in order to look for areas with desirable features/resources that you want to expand into. As you expand you then exploit those resources to build your economy, technology, and military in order to ultimately exterminate your opponents. Exterminate implies militarily conquering and eliminating them but other victory types like economic, scientific, or cultural allow you to win by dominating your opponents to such an extent that they are essentially eliminated without the need to actually militarily exterminate them.
