    This video doesn't explain a problem that it looks like a lot of CZcamsrs are having. The issue is an orange ribbon cable on the hero 4 black edition that comes loose extremely easily. I had to use a combination of tape and super glue to get that thing to stay in place. Great video, just doesn't mention how difficult it is to get that ribbon cable to stay in place.

    Tutorial looks great and easy! Just bought a replacement standard lens for my GoPro Hero+ Black (Dropped on the lens while it was charging after a week of buying it :( ).. I'm assuming everything is the same apart from putting the new lens (attached to its mount) in before assembling rather than threading the new lens in at the end?

I had used to break my front lens so I decided to chance 5.4mm lens but unfortunately while opening H4 body as you explained in the video at second of 03:54 ribbon on the upperleft has opened (not tear off - ribbon removed from its connection point at the board) how can I fix it? • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      We filmed this video using a Sony Nex7. Since the focus on the GoPro is manual, you would not be able to bring objects close to the lens like we show in this video unless you twisted the lens each time to adjust the focus. Yes, you can use a zoom lens on the GoPro and it will depend on how much zoom you require. Please contact us through our website so we can help you.

    Peau Productions is the lens more stable in the hero 4? I have had issues with the hero 3+ and 5.4mm lens since it only needs about 1.5 turns in the threadding where the lens has a tiny bit of wiggle room and leads to one side of the FOV being slightly out of focus. Can you give some insight into that?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      The Hero4 uses the exact same lens mount as the Hero 3+ Black camera, so the minimal amounts of threading you mention is still an issue. Our solution is to use our SuperMount which provides many threads for the 5.4mm to firmly thread in straight and not wiggle at all.

    Ok, I gave this a go today and seem to have messed up quite badly. My camera is the 4 black and I was trying to do this mainly to use the 2.97mm lens on the 4 for my drone. I seem to have been a bit rough and pulled out the ribbon you point out at 2:54. Trying to reconnect it I have now screwed up even further and the whole connector for that ribbon came off the main board. I am guessing it is a complete write-off, but any salvage ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

    HiI have a gopro and have noticed there appears to be a tiny hair or other foreign object either inside or behind the lens. It's around the top right hand corner and from looking at recent movies seems to be moving further from the edge into the field of view.Could this bit of dirt be inside the lens or behind it? @PeauProductions  Před 7 lety +1

    More of an action cam question. The one I purchased doesn't seem to focus at all. It looks good on the small LED screen but when I play it on my computer, everything is blurred out. Is there a way to adjust this as far as the lens is concerned or does it sound broken?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 7 lety

      That is indeed weird that it's not as focused when viewing the content. The rear screen really isn't large enough to tell the focus properly. I'd contact GoPro and see what they have to say. Otherwise you can break the glue holding the lens in place and give it a small turn to adjust the focus.

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 8 lety +1

      +Nick The stock lens mount allows many different lenses to work, but due to the lack of threads at the top (away from the sensor) you may need to use our Supermount for certain lenses (like the 5.4mm lens) that have a longer back focal length (meaning they're in focus when further from the sensor).

    Do these replacement lenses you sell have any coatings on them to reduce lens flare?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      scstudios8 We don't have any documentation saying they do or don't from the factories. Most of the lens flare produced by these lenses are a direct result of having a smaller last lens element than the stock lens (the part that you see on the front of the camera). The smaller the last element, the more chances the stray light ray will enter into the iris and make it to the sensor. The stock lens has an advantage that it is about 2x the diameter of the 12mm threaded lens barrel, so many of the light rays never get into the iris. To help reduce the lens flare (should you want to reduce it) we recommend ND filters, Circular Polarizer filters and using one of our lens hoods for the more popular non-fisheye lenses.

    i noticed that you used the same lens mount back. do i need to switch to supermount if i need to install internal filters to the camera.
    and for sony as100v what type of dust ring do i need to purchase if I'm installing a 5.4mm lens non distortion?
    thanks!

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      MGOSAN If you want to install internal filters you will want to also purchase our Supermount. The Supermount also provides added stability to lenses that have long Back Focal Lengths like the 5.4mm lens.
      If you're installing the 5.4mm into a Sony action camera, you will want to use the Dust Ring A. It is the thicker ring that has a slightly smaller diameter center hole. Slide it on the threads before threading the lens onto the camera. When you buy a 5.4mm lens both a Dust Ring A & B should be included.

    PeauProductions Very nice video. Looks like you´re doing this a lot. Is it also possible to remove the plastic ring from the lens and screw the lens out while the rest of the camera is still assembled or could this damage the lensholder?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Vince Kraus Yes you can remove the plastic black lens surround but then the small tabs in the lens surround are slightly bent meaning it will not be held on as securely anymore. This means attaching accessories to the lens surround will likely pull it off during use. Also, when trying to break the glue holding the lens in the mount you have a good chance of popping off the black ring holding the last lens element onto the lens which means you'll need to take the camera apart anyways to remove the lens (which is damaged beyond use at this point). With that said, we always recommend taking the camera apart as we show in this video. Plus, if you're installing a lens other than the stock one into a new stock lens mount or our Supermount, having the stock lens and mount glued together means you don't have to focus the lens again if you want to swap back to the stock setup.

    • @vinceksushifish217

    Thanks for posting this great video! Once I have done this and installed the 5.4mm lens, is is possible to quickly go back to using the stock lens by simply unscrewing the 5.4mm lens and screwing in the fisheye?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Yes you can unscrew the lenses and swap them. The issue though is that you need to focus each lens for the depth of field you need. This is done with the HDMI out cable to a large HD monitor. Also, the 5.4mm lens has a long back focal length, so it will stick out of the lens mount. We make a mount that works much better than the stock lens mount, called the Supermount.

    • @twopine33
      @twopine33 Před 9 lety

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Rick Boden Correct. To be honest, most people that convert to the 5.4mm never go back to the stock lens. You're better off having two cameras at that point. If you really want to be able to swap them back and forth you'd need to convert it to a camera that has a metal threaded lens mount, such as the RibCage or Novo setups.

    • @twopine33

      ***** Depends on the lens you are using. The 5.4mm we show in this video has a large back focal length making it focus further away from the sensor. Since the stock lens mount has only threads at the bottom near the sensor it is recommended you properly secure the 5.4mm to reduce lens movement. We recommend replacing the lens mount with our Supermount.

    On a scale of 1-10, how risky is it to take off the faceplate? I did it to my old hero 3 white, but the front LCD screen stuck to the faceplate, snapping a cord, rendering it useless. I want to do this mod, but I am worried that the same thing will happen.

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Well, we've never ripped an LCD, so I'd say 0. Weird that your faceplate stuck to the LCD, there should not be any tape touching the LCD. We typically start at the bottom lip underneath the lens and then pop it off as it swings up to the top. If you don't want to use a tool you can use your finger nails to get under it.

I looked at removing the small white connector with three back wires and then connecting the ribbon first but I am not sure the best way to get that white plug out. Does it just pull out or are there any latched to undo etc as I don't just want to pull it and break it! Any help much appreciated. Many thanks!

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      High Flyer If the tiny orange cable comes out you need to separate the main board from the front black heatsink (where the lens mount is attached) and flip the main board over. There is a small black tape over the ting orange connector, pull that off and reinsert the orange ribbon. Reassemble. No need to take the white connector (battery wires) off.

      Just make sure you don't get anything on the sensor before putting the lens back on. If you notice any debris simply remove the lens and clean the sensor. Since the lens will not focus for the sensor it is unlikely small debris will be an issue, only really large debris which will cause black spots.

      smartbomb101 It appears the "Ultra Pro X" is based on a SJCAM 4000 camera. Please see this page for lenses tested to work on those cameras. Modifying those cameras is super easy, just pop the faceplate and lens surround off, grab the lens and untwist. You don't have to undo a single screw. peauproductions.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=137_190

      Pablo Prats Mira I doubt they expected people to be removing the cover in the first place, otherwise they'd be selling replacement faceplates themselves. Really thin plastic is the lightest more economical solution to cover the front of the camera, so their choice in product design and materials falls in line well with their intended use of the camera.

    My GoPro (Hero 4 Black) fell into the water with open housing. So I first put it in a bowl with dry rice.
    After 2 days I seen this movie and decided to open the GoPro in order to vaporize the remaining moisture out of the lens.
    And it worked!
    But I see more reactions from people who accidentally loosened the orange ribbon. So did I :(
    Still closed the GopRo to see what works (and what not). The ribbon make contact on it's original surface but it's not fixed.
    I'm glad there is reaction with the Power-button :) But de shutter on top and the button on the side do not respond on touching.
    What could it be?
    Is it the loose orange ribbon ??

    Why did you take it apart, to do that?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 8 lety +1

      +Mark DeKruyter It is difficult to remove the stock lens from the front of the camera without damaging it. If the stock lens is scratched then you can attempt to remove it from the front, but if you don't get a good enough grip on the stock lens, the plastic outer ring will pop off and you'll need to take the camera apart then to remove. Since we modify so many cameras each day, we prefer to disassemble the camera as the lens removal is always perfect and the stock lens is unharmed by the procedure shown in the video.

    What's the benefits of the different lens?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 8 lety

      +Christian Mire A different lens changes the field of view of the camera optically, so you can capture any resolution with that FOV along with still use the sensor-crop zoom modes (Medium and Narrow).

  • @seoandwebdesigncom
    @seoandwebdesigncom Před 9 lety

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      seoandwebdesign.com Medium view crops the sensor and can only be used on certain resolutions. If you want to capture using the full sensor, so 12MP photos and 4k video, you need to change the lens to one that has a different focal length.

    Why not just unscrew the old lens and screw the new in? Is there a difference in the treads? Why do I have to take the GoPro apart like this?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Knut Uppstad Yes, you can simply unscrew the stock m12 lens and install a new one into the mount. In order to grab the lens you have to pop off the black lens surround on the front. Once you do that the small plastic tabs that hold that part on will not grab onto the camera as strongly and thus you will not be able to mount anything to the front. This is why we recommend you take the camera apart so you are not damaging the camera in order to chance the lens.

I was trying to make it come out the other side but it won't go all the way through so I just pushed it as far as it will go before pushing down the tabs again. Unfortunately, no luck. =,( Any other tips please? I really appreciate the help.

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Mel Torres All ribbons should be inserted fully into the connectors and then the tabs should be lowered to hold the ribbons. Why didn't you just unscrew the old lens without dismantling the camera?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 9 lety

      Because in order to do that you have to pop off the black plastic lens surround which once popped off breaks the tabs holding it on and you have to glue it back on. Also, the 1/8" or so that is exposed after you pop it off is not enough to properly hold onto the lens and you have a good chance of breaking off the plastic ring around the last lens element and requiring you at that point to take the entire camera apart anyways. The best way to not damage the camera, is to take it apart from the beginning.

      Removing the black lens surround without taking the camera apart breaks the small plastic tabs on the surround which means it will not go back on without glue. Many accessories such as our filter adapters rely on that black lens surround being secured firmly to the camera. Using glue near optics is not recommended. We recommend taking the camera apart as we show in this video.

      +brad womack You don't break the GoPro when the orange ribbon comes out (if it does). Just flip the front tab that holds it in up, re-insert and then flip it back down. Our technicians perform these modifications every day and rarely does the ribbon come out.

    • @skydiver187
      @skydiver187 Před 8 lety

      +PeauProductions I did that and it's still ruined. At this point I'm convinced that you would have to be a technician and do this everyday to make it successful. Everybody is having the same issue. Why wasn't this addressed in the video?

    • @PeauProductions
      @PeauProductions  Před 8 lety

      +brad womack The only way to "ruin" it is to break that flip tab off which takes a bit of force. If that happens you would need a new main board which we have for sale on our store (less expensive than a new camera). The reason we didn't show it in the video is because it didn't come out when we made the video. Yes our technicians are very skilled which is why we suggest watching this video and if it's not something you are comfortable with, you can send it to us to modify.
      There are also other videos which show removing the stock lens from the front of the camera without taking it apart, but there is a very, very good chance you'll damage your stock lens beyond usability if you do that method. If the stock lens is already damaged, you also run the risk of breaking the 3 small plastic tabs that hold the black plastic lens surround on, which will also need to be replaced or glued back on. This is why we show this procedure as it's the only way to insure you're not breaking anything when swapping lenses.
