  • I have been a big fan of the Futaba GYD450...so when the GYD470 was announced - I clearly needed to get my hands on it and try it out.
    It is billed as having some of the features of the confusing GYD550...with the simplicity of the GYD450. Is this true? I put it to the test to find out!

    So I have the GYD550 and I totally agree with it being pretty complicated and not newbie friendly (i.e. Me) so I lost interest driving. Then I finally see this video and see how you adjusted your avcs/normal mode being that I have the same controller and that little detail has me excited to drive again bc it changed dramatically how the car felt for the better. So thank you for this video!

    Dear friend.
    My name is Marcelo and it's been a few years since I found myself stuck in the hobby. In mid-2010 I started in rc drift, scale 1:10 and from then on it became a passion despite not practicing much. At the time it was the awd until the rwd came along.
    Well, today after leaving my country of origin and selling almost all my cars I'm building a drift car, which I'll use just for fun.The chassis in the case is a GRK EVO2 Shibata R31house, which I'm building and updating little by little. This chassis came to me basic but I'm providing the necessary upgrades without overspending.
    The electronics part, which I think is the most important, followed by shock absorbers and springs, is the one I'm having a problem with that I haven't faced in a long time, because a lot has changed in recent years.
    I have a Sanwa M12 radio, Sanwa Rx-472 SSL receiver ref. 92015. Esc I still haven't defined which engine it will be but something that is no more than 13.5T since it will not be a car for competition. Drift 4 fun! :)
    That said, I bought a FUTABA BLS371SV (HV S-BUS 2) servo from a friend that arrived for me yesterday. Perfect, until I was told that not every gyro gets along with a Futaba servo.
    Much has been said in the group I participate in but as always there is no cohesive and technical information. Not even some friends from Japan, who practice the hobby, know what I should adopt as a gyro for this scenario.
    Well, some options were given to me and I'll try to summarize here:
    1 - that I sell the servant and buy another. This option is out of the question at least at first;
    2 - that used gyro from OMG V4. (there are people though who told me that using that gyro was all a matter of luck);
    3 - that used the Yokomo DP-302V4 3Ch gyro. Like the OMG, it has End point regulation. And for the value being close it would be a good choice;
    4 - Like the previous gyro, the previous owner of the servo in question, he uses or used the Yokomo YG-302V2 3Ch gyro, without having incompatibility problems;
    5 - I decided myself to go after a satisfactory answer that would convince me that I would not choose a wrong gyro, thus spending money that I cannot easily replace. I ended up watching your video about the Futaba GYD470 gyro and it seemed, so far, the best option given the cost and ease of operation and also because it is the same brand as the servo. And I liked what I saw.
    Put that above, I ask:
    Among the options presented, which ones are compatible with this servo (Futaba BLS371SV) using radio (Sanwa M12 radio system with RX472 SSLreceiver set) and which would be the best option for cost/benefit. Because I'm building a car for fun and not for competition.
    Thanks a lot.
    Best regards.

      Hi Marcelo!
      I am glad to help you on your drifting journey!
      Unfortunately, I do not have experience with that specific Futaba servo and the Sanwa controllers - so my experience is not very helpful for you.
      It is well documented that Futaba servos work well with Futaba gyros - but some radio systems do not cooperate with Futaba gyros.
      Without having tested this specifically myself, I do not want to lead you the wrong direction. I am sorry I can not be more help.

    I like the shot that included both the transmitter and the car really helps visually demonstrate the different modes. I think hocking up a small fast servo with a pointer in-between the receiver and gyro would make your steering inputs on the transmitter better to film and more clear.

      I have found that endpoints is usually not the cause of wheels locking to one side or the other. With a proper alignment, they just won't.
      There are also steering stoppers on many knuckles that help prevent any over-extension of the steering.
      When in doubt - leave the steering end points at 100% and just limit the gyro end points.

    I love your channel and bought most of my setup based off of your reviews. Tonight was my first drift session with the club and I've ran into some issues.
    The main one is when adjusting the gain up or down on either the controller or on the gyro itself affects steering trim. Turn the gyro up to max and it's great fast steering with great angles but too sensitive and keeps trying to straighten me out rather than slide. Turn it down and the steering becomes really slow and limits the amount of angle on steering to the point that the steering barely turns and gyro is on low. Turn it off completely and the steering is quick and responsive with great angles again.
    Currently running the GYD 470, injora injs014 servo and dumboRC controller.
    Really not sure where to begun so any help on adjusting gain without affecting steering inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes! This is an odd thing with the GYD470. You must set the gyro gain - and then set the steering endpoints.
      Then, you must reset it every time you change the gain. Good news - once you get the gain where you want it, you will typically not change it anymore.

      @RoadsideRC Thanks very much. I've set it up and while it's still not as responsive as the rest of the clubs cars it's much better than it was. Still slows down between 60-100 on the steering trim getting slower the higher the number but does eventually reach full lock. I tend to run my gyro on a lower setting (currently 35 on normal mode as on slow return the steering is just far too slow)

    Any chance you could test the GYD470 with the Noble NB4?
    I have tried the GYD470 on a Spektrum DX3R and some cheaper (but programmable TX's) and I get no TX controlled steering, but gyro steering works fine. If I unplug the Gyro and connect steering servo directly to RX, steering works fine. I don't want to buy the NB4 and find the same issue, but if someone can confirm it works, I'll order one. Futaba 4PM is nearly $200 more than the NB4 here in Aus.

      @RoadsideRC  Před měsícem +1

      Hello!
      Unfortunately, the stock controller is VERY limiting.
      In order to use this gyro, you would need to leave the gain channel unplugged. Then, set the gain amount using the potentiometer on the gyro.
      A controller upgrade will help a lot.

      @RoadsideRC  Před měsícem

      It is Futaba's term for the smoothing out of inputs. No clue what the actual letters stand for. It is a setting they offer on most of their gyros. It really helps reduce gyro wobble.

      For tuning convenience, suggest CT500 which is good enough. Tuning adjustment from your transmitter, no more USB stick, laptop or programming card.

      Futaba USA told me that they just “haven’t tested” it with any other servos.

    You said your son went from the DP-302 V4 to GYD450 and felt it was better. Did you happen to test the difference yourself? Or the 550?
    I’m 100% new to drift, haven’t even bought yet… so trying to decide on RTR (& upgrades) vs kit. Like the YD-2Z line. I’m only going to be solo outside on asphalt, my cement patio, or a garage like you. So I am trying to balance out my tendency to want to buy high end stuff versus how much of an expense really makes sense. We don’t have a drift club in town. Car but no drift aspect. Only know two other people that have drift cars. so it’s never likely that they will be an indoor drift track

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  Před rokem +1

      Hi there!
      You gave me some KEY info there.
      Even if you already have other RC experience, setting up the components for a drift car is REALLY different and frequently requires guidance from folks who have done it before.
      If you don't have that community around you...AND you don't have a track near you where things are likely to get competitive - SAVE YOUR MONEY and get the RTR. I promise, this is the way.
      Both the MST and Yokomo RTRs are pretty good out of the box, with the MST slightly better. Both get much better with upgrades, which are easier to do step-by-step instead of trying to jump into setting it all up at once.
      Feel free to come back and ask questions along the way.
