      @Thomas A Gaines III First since your year model is right on the edge take a look behind the glove box to make sure there is not a door there first. If not, then the Kit number is a NOE 6002504 for a door and carbon type filter or a NOE6002503 for the basic door and filter. the difference is the filter type. both doors are the same. You can go to napaonline.com and put in these numbers to see and read about the difference. Keep in mind there are 5 small V-8 variations and I am assuming it is a 1500 regular cab. I looked at three different service systems and none of them give an absolute location but behind the glove box or under the dash like in the video are the tow places we have found them.

    Well my air conditioner has turned bad and hubby said I needed a new cabin filter for my 2011 Chevy Suburban. Since NO ONE has ever told me it’s a thing, I’m looking into it and plan on replacing it myself tomorrow! I will get back with you on how it goes and how much it costs me.

      Okay here is the update, I have a 2011 Chevy Suburban LT, 1500, I opened up the cover under the glove compartment and learned that the slot the cabin air filter would be in is there but sealed and not made to open. I also looked behind the glove compartment and found nothing. So to get my air conditioning to work properly I’ll take it in to my mechanic, so it will cost much more than just a filter. ($40-$50).

      Update to my update! The mechanic couldn’t find a cabin air filter either! Turns out we had a pinhole in the line to the back of the suburban. You had already replaced the filter before but the first time you do this is a pain. The filter is sealed from the factory and you need to cut the cover off with a utility knife and then buy a new filter and cover. The filter is around $15 but the cover runs around $35! The first change out is really a pain but future changes are a breeze.

The cover had 4 screws- 1 will not be put back in because how difficult it was getting it out- and it's another one with no filter from the factory. After trying to cut it open and nearly amputated the tip of my thumb, decided that's something better left til daylight. Grabbed a wad of take out napkins and electrical tape to bandage it to stop the bleeding. I was actually trying to replace the blower resistor so the fan would come on when I turn the switch.... Got that done and in the process found a half bottle of QT sweet tea a visitor left under the passenger seat during her stay 3 months ago. Argh!

    Great video. Question: If they are meant to be changed, why are they sealed from the factory? My 2011 Suburban was just at the Stealership for an air bag recall. While there, they offered to do about $700 worth of "tune ups," which I had my preferred garage do a week ago. 😁 The cabin filter was on the list for about $50, so I asked them to do it. They came back later and said it needed a kit and they couldn't do it. If a Chevy Stealership cannot do it, then.......What. The. Heck?!?!?! 😡

    • @Craigs_car_care
      @Craigs_car_care  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi John, You ask a great question. I have no answer for why they could not do it, maybe they do not keep the door kit in stock or maybe the case on yours is really different? Ask your regular shop to look into it next time your in for service and go from there. So for some reason and one I have never got a response that makes sense, some vehicles did not come from the factory with the door precut with a filter and a door already in place. Over the years I have also found trucks with 5000 to 20000 with a door but never had a filter in there, with the client stating they owned the truck new and no one ever asked about it until we asked if they would like a cabin air filter installed and we get that puzzled look and have to take them to the truck to show them the empty slot:). Bill when I look it up by application and with a diesel there's the same part numbers there and that would stand to reason that the cases inside there are the same so it should be able to take one. it may be it did not originally come with one and you need to get the filter with the door and make the cut out so you can start using a filter and the door that comes with the new one. It might be worth it for the first time to take it by a shop near you and have the conversation with them to see if that's what it is with yours. what they'll be looking for is the loop in the back or a access door would flash into and the screw hole on the other end where it can be closed up. Sure is good place to start. Every week we see all kinds of cabin air filters that have been in the dash un change for years. Old filters are breeding ground for mold bacteria from dog hair and dust cat hair and even rode it droppings in urine. So if yours has not been replaced in the last 10,000 miles pull it out and see what you got. Also check where the air comes in usually just behind the hood at the base of the windshield make sure that area is all clean and clear also. If it's nasty clear off all the debris you can with a vacuum and a brush or a broom then rinse it well with water as it is designed for rain but also be sure to check inside the dash when you use a little bit to make sure the AC drain is not stopped up and letting water get back in behind the carpet that could also cause a smell.

      Hi Satx, yep that sucks when the factory or the dealer did not do the cut out. There are several threads in the comments where others have asked the same question. There is a kit that has a door, small screw and a filter. This allows you or your shop to cut out the factory sealed area and install the first filter and then have a door for future filter replacements. Many have had a shop do the cut out and the first filter then after that be able to replace all future filters them selves. NAPA Cabin Air Filter door #6002500 is what the door looks like. Amazon also has some kits too listed in this video description. Hope this info helps and thanks for posting.

      Good Morning Alejandro, Ok the 2010 did not come with a cabin air filter from the factory, but there is a kit to add it. First check in the same area as this video. If there is no door you have to carefully cut out the plastic area then instal the filter and door. GM's parts kit number is 22759208 filter kit with the instructions and the new door and screw but does not come with a filter. Those part numbers are 22759203 for the regular filter or 23101674 for the carbon media filter that helps keep the musty smells down. There are also plenty of aftermarket option to get the door and filter for the first installation then after that you only need to buy a filter as needed. Napa Auto Parts part number for the kit and filter is 6002503 but i do not know if it comes with instructions. Great question and good luck with the install. A a side note you could have a shop do the first install for you then after that you would only have to replace the filter as needed.

      Hey Robert, that's not uncommon for that door not to get put back on. You can get a new one at your local auto parts store and it'll come with a screw when you get your new filter. If you can touch and feel the filter go ahead and start pulling it out and trying keep it together as good as possible. The filters are kind of flimsy so it may tear especially if it's really old. Once it's all out you may have to clean the area with a vacuum cleaner if it's that old.

    This is not how to do it on a 2017 Chevrolet Pickup. You have to remove the entire glove box and the filter slides in parallel to the floor board. The fours screws you take out are easily done, however getting the plastic cover off (snaps off) is a pain as there are wires all over near it that have to be moved; both to get it out and put it back in. Not that difficult, but I would think Chevrolet could have come up with an easier way. Potential is there to strip the threads when putting screws back in.

      Hi TK Mort, thanks for the update and you are correct. We have updated to use 2014 as the last date. I do agree that Chevy should have routed the wiring away from the door since they knew this would pulled off once or twice a year. Also it drives me crazy to try and not dump the contents of the glove box when servicing this stuff. Several Euros have the cabin air filter under the hood with a 5 minuets flip up door to swap out the filter, that make it way easier to do. Thank you again for update and sorry for any confusion.

      Hi Thanks for posting, It may not Jean if the "cut out" was never done. There is a kit that can be installed so you can start using a filter. Or did you go in there and find one already in place? You can call your shop and ask them about this.

    Leave it to the drunks at gm to make a system where you cant replace a filter, what a joke

      Good afternoon, I am still laughing. :) Something that is designed to be inspected or replaced every 5,000 to 10,000 miles should be easy to get to and just a latch to get it out. We work on things everyday where we say to our self "What were they thinking when they designed this!!!!!" Thanks for posting you made my day. :)

      Hi Andy, It should have the place to do the update that is removed with a utility knife type of tool and then the updated door and a new filter can be installed. The Napa part numbers for the filter and door kit are 6002504 or 602503 depending what quality of filter you wants. Many folks will have the update done by a shop then start replacing the filters them selves after that. You can have your shop look into it and advise if in fact it is capable of the update.
