I was actually excited about the new Tacoma and 4Runner. Now that they are basically out I’m so disappointed. The prices have totally took the excitement away instantly. And one engine choice just makes it worse.
How many engine choices did the last 4Runner have?
There’s the non hybrid powertrain for lower trims
remember the V8 4Runner? Ah, good times.
@@danielrn133 The point is that there are NO V6 and V8 options, considering in the past gens there were 4cl/V6/V8 models. I was hoping that there would be engine choices. The main concern I have with the 6th gen is the longevity of the 4cl engine. Time will only tell on that one.
@FullsendOffroad remember the 4 cylinder option in 2010? Those were the good ol days.
This Trailhunter 4runner looks good with this color, even the interior looks good. I’ll be interested to see how the first year production vehicles shake out, what kinds of kinks come out.
I am really sick of all the haters, especially for this CZcamsr. I enjoy watching car videos. Everyone up in arms about the engine- although it is not what we want, the government has made it totally clear and Toyota is just late to the game. Ford has been putting turbos in trucks for over 10 years. Chevy puts a 4 turbo in a full size truck. The price- everything is expensive. Are Toyotas a few grand more- yes, but they always have been. If you don’t want it, don’t watch and don’t buy. Personally, I am just waiting for interest rates to go down and the first year or two of production.
Exactly. I needed a new car because I have a 16 year old and it just made more sense to pass down my 10 year old Tundra and get something new. I opted for the Tacoma. My only hesitancy was buying one so fresh off the design floor. But I did the same with two 4runners and they were both fine for ten years+. So hoping this one is the same. But the price is right on par with inflation compared to previous generations in their first year. And the 4 banger is a great engine if the reliability is there. I don't love the sound, but that's my only complain and what the radios for. And it should be as long as people change the oil regularly. Turbos are not engines to skip oil changes on. But the power is there in this motor. The fit and finish is as good as any Toyota I've owned.
New Toyotas are, on average 5K to 10K more then other midsize trucks depending on the trim package and add-ons
So you’re complaining about other people complaining? Cool.
33s on a stock 4x4 is wild! In high school we had to throw a least a 3 inch lift on trucks and bring the sawzall in for some body work to clear everything. What a time to be alive!😂
I was locked up for a whoke year, last i remember you had 49k views, i remember when you had 6.5k views, man you are growing rapidly.
Good thing is when you buy the 4runner you’ll have three vehicles with the same exact powertrain basically 😂 and 2 with the same exact interior!
This video is amazing! Well done TRD JON!
no hood struts is one of those things that doesn’t really matter until your really hot, cold, wet, or stressed haha 😂
It is a bit ironic how car guys talk about how great Porshe turbo's are and Hellcats with 700+ horsepower are cool. Trucks are a bit different, but turbo's and superchargers are a great way to get big power and efficiency from smaller engines. There is no free lunch, reliability may suffer a bit and adding a hybrid will make it more complex. My last supercharged car went 160K miles and my hybrid was at 178K miles both were still going strong. Most people don't keep their vehicles 300K miles. Have a 5th gen 4Runner with 156K and it's great, but slow and gets horrible gas mileage. If anyone can put together a turbo/hybrid drivetrain Toyota can. There are thousands of used 4Runners and GX460's and you can find new ones out there still. Mine will be on the market once I get a TrailHunter. Buy what you want...
Wanting to see the TRD OR and TRD Sport. Planning on getting one from Danville Toyota!
Wanna see an OR bad for sure
To me it looks better than currGenentech gen. Not even close how much better it looks.
I have my gripes, but I will say the interior are nice touches all around. I dig the onboard compressor in the back, very cool to see that OEM and of course, an interior with more organization and gear stowage in mind.
Hell yeah, brother!
These new trucks and vehicles are just CZcams shows for me 😂. Keeping my paid off. 21 Tacoma these prices are crazyyy
Enjoy!!!!!
I'll be keeping my 95 4runner and my 98 4runner
Thanks for the video Jon, Im old school and i am not a fan of the power train- some features are good and others not so good but it does look good.
No worries! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely enjoyed it mate! Cheers!
I’m so excited I can’t wait to hear that 4cyl roar ! Lol
You’re welcome for pointing out the door handles at the fireside chat 😉😂
lol 😂
Anyone else find it weird they still use a prop in 2025 for the engine hood? I wonder why they cheaped out there and not have the usual lift shocks.
Hopefully that's more pre-production stuff, but since there's a notch for the rod.....I'm guessing the aftermarket will have to provide on that one.
These prices are out of control.
Hello Jon, appreciate your content! Looking at the new LC or ‘25 4Runner for my next vehicle (been driving a v8 runner for 15 years so kinda a big deal). How would you compare the rear seat space and seating position between the very similar vehicles? The LC being taller mean the seats are also taller sitting? Thanks!
Yea the LC for sure feels very truck like but at the same time super comfortable. I enjoy the 4R seating position
Those Toyo - open country at3 are the best all terrain tires ❤️🔥
Way too expensive; Toyota is losing it.
Love the TrailHunter! The only ding I can give this is I agree with the rear air. I wish it was overhead and that the rear passengers had access to controls. Poor doggos in the back get no air when the vents are in the back of the console versus overhead.
Expecting big recalls in few years like they just announced for 2022 and 2023 thundras today.
yup. and thats exactly what is going to happen.
Thanks John, you did a good job :) bring a tape measure lol, thats a plus. Sorry, just razin ya
Nice video, thank you. I like how the gauge cluster has both turbo boost and the battery level, as well as the trans/oil temp. All good telemetry to have.
I wonder if the Trailhunter might get a high rise intake delete option. Everything else is solid, but I wouldn't need the snorkel.
Hopefully the TRD Pro ditches the gloss black fender trim in favor of the rougher look on this trim.
Congrats on achieving 100k!
Thank you so much 😀
Would look better with a v6
Look better?
All odd numbered gen 4runners are the best.
It appears that way.
When do we get to see an SR5 or something more budget friendly?
Sadly, I don’t there will be a budget friendly trim anymore
SR5 will be 45K. I think that's budget friendly
@@BillSauceify I just paid $45k for a TRD ORP 4runner with 6k miles. Trusty, proven v6 > this new nonsense any day of the week
@@nickc3856 yeah. But considering that average price for a new vehicle is 42K? Trust me I wish it was wasn't this way. But Toyota won't changing it anytime soon. That's why we need Someone to tear these vehicle down and to give us an actual cost analysis.
I sure wish all trim levels offered the heritage grille, it just looks so awesome!
Good video Jon that's for the close up to the 6th Gen
No worries man
I like the front end of the new 4runners better than the gen4 Tacomas. reduction of fake vent under the headlight looks a lot more balanced IMO.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Delighted
Can not wait for dealership arrival this fall
You guys should check out the new tundra aswell heard its pretty sweet.
are the taking orders for the 4 Runners now?
Not yet but soon!
Great stuff, Jon!
Glad you enjoyed it
The color look awesome!!! I hope the TRD off road have a hood scoop.
Really hoping they’ll have the cockpit red interior. I’d love to get white cap exterior with cockpit red interior.
If not, the Everest green is my 2nd option
This 4cyl turbo along with all the hybrid bullshit scares the hell out of me. It won’t be as bulletproof as the fifth gen 4R.
I think I'd rather have a really clean Gx470 for a quarter of the money
Good rigs
#metallicky
Thanks for the content, keep up the great work! Leaving my 2010 4Runner soon to get into a 250 LC. Fingers crossed. These new 4Runners look great too! Can’t decide if I like the trdpro or trailhuntress with the old man emu holding her up! 😊thanks again!
Glad they got rid of the fake hood scoop! The only styling thing about my 18 TRD Off Road that I don't like. Love the high-rise air intake!
I hope the 4Runners door panel will be the exact fit for my Tacoma so I can get some nice soft stuff.
The Trailhunter seems like the vehicle we will get of the new 3 TNG frame SUV's. It has the heavier shocks, underbody protection and is set up for Overlanding/towing. The GX550 engine sounds good with the heavier towing, but the extra cost for the Overtrail puts it out of our price range, the fuel economy and the engine recalls don't help either. Will keep our 5th gen until the new 4Runners have been out a while. Hopefully, the inventory levels will improve and the price gouging will end. Want someone else to have the teething problems of the new model...
they are releasing them nearly 5k more msrp than the outgoing generation. They are going UP in price, UP in insurance cots, UP in maintenance costs. no thanks folks, ill happily pump gas into the new 24 4runner we grabbed until it doesnt run any more. Easy to fix, plentiful parts, no overwhelmed local toyota service dept to ferry it back and forth to ... freedom.
The prices are ridiculous. Not in a giant hurry to replace ours. Just had our 2014 serviced all new calipers, rotors pads and one CV axle. 155K so we have plenty of miles left...we'll see what happens.
The only thing im amazed at all new 4Runner is it c ame back as Pickup Passenger SUV like it was before
Love that birds nest of an engine bay.. classic Toyota reliability and simplicity!
When do we get a 4x2 hybrid? Are they afraid of an SUV getting 30mpg or close to it?
The trd sport may
If this Trailhunter is marketed towards overlanders, then can a rooftop tent and batwing be installed? Need function, not looks.
For sure I am sure it could
How much better will the 2WD MPG be vs 4WD in your estimation?
Hopefully 1 or 2. Didn’t even think about that
I like that green color
I looks really cool.
I wanna see what a trd off road looks like
Yes!
Thanks Jon, love this 6th Gen! I see folks complaining about pricing, but I was a Wrangler guy for a long time, so now I’m just stoked for a 4Runner Trailhunter- I figure it’ll still be a relative bargain next to a Rubicon… with Toyota reliability to boot! Only thing I’d miss would be a front locker 🤷♂😊
Right on!
That middle row legroom looks fit for a 5' tall mini-person.
Yea video doesn't capture well but I feel it has more room than the 5th Gen
@@TRDJon Thanks. It'd be great for you to do a side-by-side comparison between the 5th and 6th gen when able. I know that the new Tundra is substantially smaller in the rear seat than the previous generation, same as the Sequoia. I guess Toyota's hybrid battery solution for their new generation leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of passenger space and cargo volume.
Will do!
Love your videos. Subscribed. The more I look at the 6th gen, the more I love my 2022. Yes, MPG is laughable (never cared in the first place) and it's slow compared to this new hybrid engine, but my rear seats fold down flush with the trunk floor, the trunk floor doesn't have a 4-inch rise due to a battery, my beloved rear roll-down window is bigger (the button is in the right place next to the shifter), and I know the V6 can last 300K+ miles.🙂It doesn't mean I don't like the 6th gen, but is it "worth" a $10K+ upcharge from the 5th gen? I think not.
You like slow and boring car we get it
Have these been recalled yet?
They aren’t out yet.
Love the color!
be nice if they put plastic under armor for it doesn't rust out like the last one did in salt areas.
Its aluminum.
@@TRDJon All the underneath is aluminum really? You sure about that?
The armor is yea for the skids
@@TRDJon o i was looking for complete coverage of the underneath so road salt doesnt get on everything and rust it.
Any idea when we will get to see the SR5?
Hopefully soon! I’m interested in that and the TRD OR
I just want a normal trailhunter look with a 3 row config.
I was so excited about the 4Runner but after hearing about how the new turbo tundras are faring right now, I decided to go with a GX 460. I found a fully loaded 2022 luxury trim GX with off road package with 25000 miles for 58k out the door . I couldn’t let that go. It’s been a week and I am loving my GX
Great placement on the compressor. Picture you hit civilization and want to air up. First unload your cargo or remove your drawers/fridge so you can access the air. Wait ... what?
Next time your looking a trd pro 4 runner take a tape measure, I interested in knowing the seat height from the ground, want to see if it will be a jump to get into.
hey jon,
I am wondering do you think the presence or absence of hybrid on the 4unner or land cruiser 250, is essential or would you say its just a plus?
kind regards
Depends on what you need. It’s better mpg and power so I’d say it’s a plus
That back glass probably super expensive to replace
There’s absolutely nothing you could say to convince me to get this or the new Tacoma
I am stuck between the 4runner and the tacoma
well have someone move one of them so you can get out
lol
It honestly comes down to if you need a truck
I might be the only one that thinks this engine is perfect. I want the smallest most fuel efficient engine I can get that gets the job done, and it seems like Toyota nailed it. Might have to get a Trailhunter 4Runner next.
I live near the North Wind River Range in Wyoming and I drive at elevation every day. My first turbo was my current Ranger and it is amazingly better than any NA engine I ever had. Primarily becuase at altitude NA engines turn to crap. Also the low end torque is way way better. I am at 75K miles with zero issues. I would never ever go back to a NA engine.
That’s a nice change of pace to actually hear a couple of people be positive about a new Toyota truck
I cannot agree more. People need to get over themselves and realize Toyota gave us an incredibly powerful efficient engine for the emissions standards they have to meet now. People also seem to have forgotten why Toyotas have always been more priced than the competition, that is because of their robustness and reliability but also the care their engineers truly put into their products.
Good luck. I bought a used 4runner at a Toyota dealership 2 weeks ago and the salesmen there told me straight up not to buy a new Tacoma or the upcoming 4runner as they don't trust the reliability.
@@ap4x452 Forcing additional power into small displacement engines means less reliability. Its not a theory, its a reality. Toyota's often sold at a premium because of reliability, which was a biproduct of having robust engines producing little power. Many of their American counterparts made the switch to turbos in an arms race to offer "the most powerful truck" ultimately sacrificing longevity. Toyota just ditched their major selling point (to most of us) to join that race.
how does the drivers sitting position and overall interior compare to the LC250 ?
Sorry havent heard a clear answer yet, since youve had hands on both. Are the interiors the same on the new taco and 4runner? Trying to get a feel for what 4 runner im going to get and nothing out yet on the 4runner besides the high level trims
Yes they look the same inside for the most part.
@TRDJon awesome thanks for the reply man!
Guess we’re gonna see a new video soon regarding the tundra recall
I posted to my community about it. Everyone has already made videos and been posting about it so I just posted there
Move onto another channel man.
@@TRDJonit’s healthy criticism, take it in stride brotha… when you eventually come to the realization I’ll give u the kudos u deserve
I don't need realization man. I've talked about the Tundra engine issues here and there in videos since it initially happened back in March 2022 brotha.
@@TRDJon well where’s the outrage with their seemingly terrible qc problems? Toyota hangs their hat on reliability and apparently that’s out the window now … I have no issues about being a fanboy but u really don’t push the company in the right direction when you don’t hammer it home… you didn’t even make a video on the recall? U could have made An hr long video about it and highlighted again the crap ur experiencing with ur tundra … currently there’s no appeal to buy a new Toyota over domestics…. I was waiting for the new tundra but once I saw that crap they produced after having 3 different decades to refine it, I bought the 2nd gen …
Trail hunter or LC?
LC
In 50 years we will be on 1 cyl, and folks will be complaining saying it's nothing like the 4 cyl :D
Does the Trailhunter have an auto awd mode for driving on regular roads?
What’s the deal with no metal rear bumper like they advertised so heavily on the Taco?
How will the massive Toyota Lexus engine recall affect the new 4Runner's release?
Probably not at all considering it’s a different engine
All quiet on the Toyota recall. I guess the VIP/all expense paid Early Access provided by Toyota are worth keeping😂
Maybe you should check the community tab.
Jon, just a heads up I'm sure you know about. You've been called a " shill" for Toyota by another vlogger in regards to whats going on with the Tundra recalls and your refusal to criticize Toyota for their failings.
Interesting video.
Could care less what people think about me. If they really had a problem they would say it to my face instead of being a coward and just saying it in a video. Clearly they don’t know me or the content I make. Sounds pretty pathetic then if you ask me.
Hey TRD Jon,when will the dealerships start getting the TRD pro and the trail hunter
I’d say December
@@TRDJon thanks 👍 I figured you would be the guy that would know!
Man with all the problems lately with toyota engines i just dont trust buying the from them, especially first gen. First gen is always a risk but they have really dropped the ball on the recent releases of many of their products. Will take some time to gain trust again at this point. Also finally saw the new tacoma in person and the new styling just seems off. Looks good in pics and video but in person i much prefer previous gens. The new canyon and colorado look far better imo and you get more for your money.
Tundra recall?
Yea? And? Been on my community tab for like 12 hrs
Looks good. Too bad about all the new Toyota engines though.
It’s less than 1% of early models and only the V6s as of now.
Waiting for the engine recall on these new turbo charged motors🤷🏻♂️
I hate that they changed the way the rear seats fold. It was perfect with the 5th gen.
Are you gonna make an appearance at Expo East in October?
Potentially!
Does the new 4R have more room in back seat than the new Tacoma? Also cargo room camparison with new Land Cruiser?
Yes it does. LC has more cargo cuz the roof is taller
@@TRDJon Thanks Jon - mostly interested in length of cargo for fishing poles, coolers, boat/beach stuff etc. Trying to get awayy from having a full size truck and mid size trucks are too cramped in back seats....
Nobody talks about the trailer backup feature. Why?
Octane/Fuel requirements?
Should be regular
The LC250 has recommendation for premium gas. That is the same engine as here. Hmmm.
I can't believe for the cost of a TRD Pro or a Trailhunter you get a prop-rod. Unbelievable.
I agree with that.
Anyone knows the ground clearance for these new 4R?
These new Tacoma 4 runners are too expensive for what they are. Your approaching full size truck prices and full size suv
For sure just depends on options and stuff too you want.
These new 4Runners look good. Hopefully they won't have all the engine problems that the Tundra and the Lexus are having. Toyota just issued a recall 102,000 vehicles strong for the Tundra and the Lexus because of potential engine failures!
Yes. I’ve posted that to my community tab several hrs ago.
Every single
I’m just here for the honest videos about Toyota recalls, subpar customer service and false reporting. Oh wait, my bad.
Well then you should have read the title. Would have saved you some time if you put that small effort in.
@@TRDJon I should have bro! pump up those sales numbers, yo!! Imma go off road my Lexus a race it against dat 4banger! Gonna be ‘banging like a tundra turbo engine!!!
Will the TRD PRO version have a Heads up display ?
I believe so
You’ll see these in 5yrs with the 4.0 swap 😂
Nah LS it! Haha
I hate that the Tacoma and 4Runner are the same. If one is made on the other damn side of the earth then why not mix it up and make some more differences? I love my 5th gen and how it looks like nothing else. I am glad this one doesn’t have those dumb seats that were a giant waste of engineering and money. The air is a really nice feature though.
I'm very disappointed. The 4runner always had its own identity, and now it looks too much like The Tacoma . The four cylinder that they put in it aren't really ringing any bells either. I just might keep my 2016 4runner trail after all.
4Runner always looked like it's pickup sibling up until 2003. Even the third gen you can swap the front sheet metal with the Tacoma or Hilux of the era and its 100% bolt on.
Nothing wrong with keeping tried and true
5th gen all the way, these new trucks are a massive disappointment.
Running out to purchase a 2024 4-Runner Off Road.. These hybrid batteries have a shelf life, unlike the current 4-Runner that can last for decades.
I just did that. Couldn't be happier.
Current 4Runner has only been out since MY2010….
Exactly @@Gnargoyle811
Congrats on the 5th gen!
