  • This is a weekly test of Knox County's Weather Siren System. Tests are usually conducted on Saturdays between 11:00-12:00 Noon EST (10:00-11:00 CST) under clear skies. The sirens will sound for a full, three minute alert cycle for tests and hazardous weather. The system is comprised of Federal Signal xT22s, Model 2s, and various Sentry 3v8s.
    This 2T22B is located on N 11TH Street & College Avenue at the Vincennes Fire Department (Hose Co. No. 2). It is the only grey xT22 in the county that I have seen so far and is mounted on a average-sized, wooden pole with the controls being located just inside the small fire station. It also appears as though this siren was originally painted yellow, but then painted grey for some reason. On Google Maps, you can see that the siren is yellow, not grey.
    Normally I arrive to Knox Co. siren tests with just a few minutes to spare. Today, however, I got to this test quite early. Usually they try to sound the sirens around 11:30ish but today they tested at 11:45 which gave me around thirty minutes to spare. It also gave me just enough time to set up where you can see the chopper spin like last time. Originally, I set up my camera in a spot where you couldn't see the chopper. I was also impressed on how loud this siren was as you could "feel" the sound vibrate through you. Infact, I could feel my phone in my pocket slightly vibrate which, at first, I thought the phone was creating the vibration.

    Yes. The single phase motors usually run at lower RPMs resulting in a lower pitch. They also have a slower, non-linear windup as opposed to the usually quick wind-up of three phase motors.

      DSRX100 that's sounds like a Carter air raid siren

      Carters had much less powerful motors relative to the rotor size, which resulted in the slow windup typical for Carter.

    It sounds simulator to McConnell AFB's XT22. Great vid.

      That's because this is the exact same siren they had when the Andover Tornado hit McConnell AFB in 1991

      @@Bushido_Shay Sorry but that's not even close. To make it clear, The sirens over in McConnell were Replaced by Mods in 2005. Those sirens, electronic sirens i should say are useful as a Giant voice system. Also very useful to almost every Base in the US even in the 5 continents. Usually when the old sirens aren't removed or replaced, they would be useful for backup.

    Generally, Knox Co. tries to test every week but only on clear days. In the winter months, they may test on a monthly basis (still depends on weather, even snow and ice).

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, single phase xt22s sound so much better than 3 phase ones. Only problem is they don't hold up quite as well over the years.

    • @jcjohnson7066
      @jcjohnson7066 Před 2 lety

      According to Wikipedia. It says The A or B determined whether the motor was three phase or single phase. A XT22A would be three phase, while a XT22B would be single phase.

      A linear windup is a constant increase in pitch. So the rate at which the pitch increases doesn't speed up or slow down.
