    I want to make it known I love Skyrim, I legitimately have over 2,000 hours on it lol. Kingdom Come also had the advantage to look back at all the successful rpgs over the past decade and fine tune the features of their game. Don’t take the title to serious ❤

      2,000 hours? Pah! Milkdrinker, I have that in the character generator alone. Seriously, KCD was a fantastic RPG but difficult and unforgiving in places. I can't wait for the next WS game.

      From that perspective a Studebaker would be a much better car than a Ferrari or Tesla and a Charlie Chaplin movie would be better than any modern day movie. Don't get me wrong: I'm glad you liked Skyrim that much but I got bored with it after about 40-50 hours. And it was certainly a fun game but it's not a KCD where I now have over 500 hours invested and still discover new things regularly which keep the game interesting. Yes the sword-fighting is challenging but by practicing a lot with captain Bernard you will improve and the the game gives you perk to make it even easier so you can take on a group of 5 enemies after a while. The writing, character building graphics and music make it one of the best games ever made. Imo this is one of the best, if not the best, RPGs ever made. But to each their own I guess,

      @@ingeborgsvensson4896 - Well, one of the reasons I hae so much time invested in skyrim is the modability of the engine. Those can change the game in so many ways, recently I added and extra 50+ quality dungeons, upped the difficulty beyond hardest. The difficulty in KCD was pretty refreshing, I really enjoyed the swordplay and the challange, it becomes second nature eventually.

    The 2 strongest points of Skyrim for the fans is that it can be highly modded, but also the fact that it takes place in the Elder Scrolls universe. When you love the universe of the game it makes it way easier to enjoy it and to tolerate the flaws that the game might have. That's why for me, as an Elder Scrolls fan, it's gonna be very hard to find a franchise that I love more than the Elder Scrolls series, because for me the love for the universe comes first. The world in KCD is masterfully crafted. Its a beautiful world to explore and unlike most games like this it actually rewards exploration in the way of secrets in the form of easter eggs and loot. If you know where to go you can literally get the best weapon in the game once you get to the open world map but because Henry sucks at everything it won't really do you any good lol. I love this game, its one of the most unique games i have ever played. The story is gripping and never feels like a chore, and again, i can't stress this enough about how beautiful the world is. It makes you spend hours just walking around exploring. As for the save system ..... the complaints are just from morons who forget to buy the saviour schnapps or actually remember to save the game, that's not the game at fault, its theirs. Also there are plenty of saviour schnapps to buy and if you run out of them its again, not the game at fault its the player for being shit at the game.

    • @tangodroid
      @tangodroid Před 8 měsíci +1

      I agree with you in everything except the schnapps. As much as I love the game, don't know if I would be able to finish it if I didn't install a mod to save whenever. The thing is, I hate repetition and to waste time. To wake one day, do a bunch of stuff, and then die either because either I don't have schnapps, or because something caught me by surprise, so I have to redo everything again, sometimes several times, it is quite frustrating for me. I don't want to redo what I already did.
      For the record, I do like repetition of the challenging parts, if I'm dealing with a tough camp and keep failing, sure, will enjoy new tries. But let me do them from exactly when I'm about to start, not from where I have to do a lot of easy stuff before that because I'm struggling with the schnapps.
      I get what they are trying to do with the saves, to make dying feel more significant and upsetting, but another consequence for me is to often make the game feel more boring every time I have to repeat the more monotone parts.
      Also, luckily I played it when it seems most bug were fixed, but the game was infamous at lunch for the amount of bugs, including the game crashing or freezing (the ones I've found several times). Losing a bunch of progress for something that happen in the game is usually at least annoying, losing a bunch of progress because the game crashed will become infuriating really fast, and that will happen a lot more often if your saves are so limited.

    I almost rage quit the game a few times, but the feeling of immersion in a well-realized version of the medieval world made this history buff very happy. There aren't too many games where I develop mental maps anymore, since the worlds are so huge and empty and you never really need to actually do anything but follow the arrow on the HUD... but even now years later, I can still see the major locations and I remember where things are located just like I spent time living there. I LOVE when games really require me to develop my own mental map. I'm looking forward to KCD2. This is an absolutely fantastic game, I've played through it 3 or 4 times and will soon do it again. One of my all-time favorites. However, if I would change anything for the sequel it would be the combat system. I appreciate what they tried to do with the HEMA adaptation and the combos, but it's a very frustrating experience for no good reason.
    I know others may disagree but I struggled immensely to perform the combos, even after several playthroughs. Unfortunately, the counter-attack technique (learned from Bernard in Rattay) makes combos redundant due to it's ridiculous effectiveness. But even putting that aside, the camera-lock prevents you from controlling both the distance to your opponent and the direction that you are looking, which makes combat feel like an arcade game. Both are of course crucial factors in all forms of close combat and it's such a shame that they chose an aiming system that requires camera-lock at all. I really hope they keep their devotion to realism with by sticking with HEMA but that they also update this system, preferably with a 3rd person version.
    Except for the combat system, this game absolutely rocks.

It's mostly fine when you're facing one opponent, but useless against multiples, and you're in for a bad time with three or more because you can't quickly switch your attention between them. One mechanic I don't understand is how a strike from an enemy in your back will force Henry to turn around and face them, which seems logical at first, but is infuriating when you're trying to flee from a mob of people.

    Great review and incredibly accurate. KCD is by far my favourite game of all time and even though its over 5 years old, i cannot see another title competing with it for a long long time (until KCD2 obviously). The producers of this product knew exactly how to build a game of utmost immersion. I cant help but think being a small team benefited that. I think the one core aspect of the game that makes it so good is the lack of hand holding its users through it. Whether its having to search for a vacant bed to save the game, or to brew some saviour schnapps with alchemy, or whether its to search for the next task in a quest purely based on deacription, like "at the fallen tree, follow the river until you reach the camp", or whether its to learn how to read before you can complete a quest that requires the reading ability.... this review touches on a number of examples of this and ultimately i think this sat at the core of all conversations while developing this game which totally transformed gaming for me... and for alot of others (probably ruined it too because its now the only game ill play 😅)

    KCD was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. It's rough at the beginning on hardcore but that makes it all the better. The world is a piece of art, probably the strongest aspect of the game. The gameplay is great fun. Thieving is very immersive and rewarding, the combat feels weird at the beginning but is sophisticated, the mini games are great and even the hunting is fun. I could just keep on praising the game for forever but here's what is best about the game: it's old school. That's also the reason why I didn't go down too well with the younger audience. It throws you into this huge world, it is not holding your hands. It expects you to find ways and means to get money. • @vincentkeith5259
    @vincentkeith5259 Před 9 měsíci +5

    KCD is one of my all-time favorites, but I don't see any point in comparing it to Skyrim - they're too different. It feels like saying a Sports car is better than a Truck - well sure if your goal is fun driving, but if you goal is hauling lumber - that sports car sucks.
    Should everyone who like Skyrim give KDC a try? Probably. Should the people who were disappointed with Skyrim give it a try? Almost certainly - it really is that good. Just don't expect it to be a replacement for Skyrim or Elden Ring or any other game.
    Sure, you can compare graphics quality - KDC wins (until you mod Skyrim). But combat is way too different and designed for different purposes. KDC is a mostly linear story; in Skyrim, you can ignore the story and still have fun.
    It's more refined than Skyrim, but it hasn't nearly the scope of world size, number of quests, or - well, most anything. Skyrim's Lore is fantasy, whereas KDC is based mainly on reality. The KDC story is the game, whereas in Skyrim, the story is more of a prompt to explore the game - also, the default ending is stupid beyond belief, and I can't see why anyone would bother with it more than once - I didn't even do that much. Still, I get a lot of enjoyment from Skyrim because I can ignore or change what I don't like.

    I just started playing it, and I had the same thought. And it just further exposes bethesda. I recently played skyrim for the first time and could only do it for 10 hours. It's only considered good because people want an open world sandbox to immerse themselves in, not because its good on any level. With Kingdom Come, I was immediately impressed by the passion the devs had for the game. That is rare in modern gaming

The great RPGs don't get worse over time. It's just that skyrim doesn't have anything 'good' but its a sandbox with lots of content. Are there any memorable stories, characters at all? When I was about to quit playing i looked up what the good guild quests are, and I had a hard time finding anything people actually liked about the game. it was mostly people saying all the quests sucked despite apparently being fans of the game. I grinded combat level but kept getting killed by lower level soldiers and bandits. I had no idea that you need to learn additional moves from trainers to be proficient at swordplay. IMHO the game's UX failed to make me aware that combat was deeper than "x-level+y-hits"
    I agree that the game is a masterpiece (especially for those it just clicked with), but they could have tweaked the early game, if anything to communicate to the player that it needs to be approached differently than your average RPG.

  • @thehuntermikipl1170
    @thehuntermikipl1170 Před 10 měsíci +4

    It is really annoying how so many games are not skill based, and all they do is artificially increase the difficulty. So it doesn't take any skill, just more grind, which is just annoying, and makes players cheat. Why waste time grinding, if it doesn't actually change anything, and you may as well make things a little bit easier for yourself?
    In skyrim, or minecraft, combat is just spamming lmb, and possibly stopping for a while to use healing items, and continuing.
    Even Mount&Blade, a game with a good combat system made AI so poorly, that all you do is spam LMB anyway, and if you want to enjoy combat you have to play on multiplayer (and you also have to hope there isn't too many archers, and people using shields, because otherwise it won't be enjoyable anyway).
    You mentioned in skyrim players most likely just scumsave if they get caught pick pocketing. But you didn't say why. In skyrim there is absolutely no system for that, no skill involved, it is just pure RNG, so no wonder after being caught player just thinks "bullshit" and reloads a save.

      @mrholotape8376  Před 10 měsíci +1

    2 things holding me back from buying this game:
    1) The protagonist is not created by me.
    When I create a character, it builds some rapport between me and that character and it adds the game a crazy amount of replayability. I can imagine a backstory in my head and play as mage or warrior and in the next playthrough play as a thief or archer with another backstory. That adds another layer to the game.
    In KCD I always play as Henry, always the same backstory, always the same objective, always the same build.
    2) No 3rd person.
    Unpopular opinion but I love to play in 3rd person. GTA, Skyrim, Enderal, No Man's Sky, Red Dead Redemption... I like seeing my character's armor and weapons and it gives me a better perspective of the world around me. I can play a FPS in 1st person, not an RPG/Action game.
