      If it’s impossible to get off the standard motor, won’t you need to buy one and if so, how many teeth?

    Ah the joys of taking motors and pinions out of the WLtoys models hey Joe, I personally think they use some sort of super glue in the factory than loctite tbh. Also you must use heat with either a small blow torch or soldering iron to get these screws and pinions off in one piece without stripping them, what i do is once it's very hot, i turn the screw driver clockwise to tighten the screw so it breaks the glue then loosen it, comes off easy and works every time 😎👌

    Enjoyed the video good job, I think everyone is so focused on the motors. I have had incredible luck increasing speed and performance just by swapping over to a quality ESC. I think this applies to all lower end RC Cars. Brushed and Brushless motors alike. I had an ECX 1/16 scale brushed buggy that I swapped out the esc to a quality Quicrun brushed one. The car was a whole new vehicle. Super smooth and gained about 8 miles per hour! same brushed motor. It's called an Electronic SPEED CONTROLER for a reason. It is what talks to the motor and TELLS it how to perform!

      Had mine for nearly 2 months now, got a Surpass 3100k motor and ESC coming, I'd keep it stock but even after adding more thermal paste to the motor it still overheats quickly and either the motor, the ESC or both shut down, once it does that initially even if you let it cool down for 30 minutes it'll just stop again in 5 minutes, ruins any bashing session if you don't have a backup car.

    Use a flame to heat the screws up dude! Just 5-10 seconds of heat and they come off like butter! And once you undo the grub screw the pinion will come off easy too because they loctite the pinion on the motor shaft also. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

    Swapping the included ESC with a HobbyWing ESC fixed the problem for me. Way easier than a motor swap. I was very disappointed after receiving the 124016. After what I spent, I would have gone with an LC Racing car instead.

    • @timesensitive2117
      @timesensitive2117 Před 2 lety +1

      I used the Hobbywing QUICRUN 10BL120. It's probably overkill but I thought if it didn't work out for the 124016 I could use it in a different car at a later time.

    • @user-ng5mm7kf6q
      @user-ng5mm7kf6q Před 2 lety

      there's also cheaper esc from hobbywing would that worth taking different one but suitable for this car, can you advise oh how to pick the right size esc?

    • @nofruitinmybeer
      @nofruitinmybeer Před 2 lety +1

      @@user-ng5mm7kf6q They have a 10BL60 that would work fine. I think with the large pinion and the 2845 motor any ESC smaller could have issues. At the time I was looking, the price difference was small between the 60 and 120.

    Many people report good success with replacing the ESC for a better one. Also, WLToys 144001 and similar models are well known to have an insanely strong loctite on pinion and motor mount. Those parts are less than $5, it is easier to buy them with the new motor.

  • @gugman9684
    @gugman9684 Před 2 lety +2

    Trying to get those pinions and mounts of is such a pain as the all the screws have got Loctite on them so most people will just buy replacements for them.
    That replacement motor mount would have been better if the screw holes were countersunk like the original one .
    The screws on it push against the pinion and spur gear dust shroud bending it out of shape.
    I 3D Printed a motor mount but have not got around to trying it out yet making it so it really is adjustable for a bigger pinion gear option.

    My 124017 was barely operable out of the box. I replaced the esc with a surpass 60a. Helped a lot for a bit then stopped helping. Who knows.
    My 124016 wasn’t as bad but it was still there enough where it wouldn’t start in grass etc. Stuck a 3s. Much better but not great.
    The programming card made both of mine worse. Resetting didn’t correct.
    I have a motor, gear, and mount en route for both. We’ll see! I should have just bought the brushed ones ha. I love my 14401! Don’t need any more power in it.
    Thx for the great content 👊🏼

  • @gravit8ed
    @gravit8ed Před 2 lety +3

    I've upgraded a few of these now and it is truly a case of just buying the brushed version - as it's cheaper - and just buying an esc, brushless, motor mount and pinion set. You might get lucky tearing the factory stuff down but they use like red loctite or something that ish doesnt come off easy. You're probably going to have to buy at least one of these components to replace what you're gonna ruin trying to pull the factory stuff apart.

    Solid vid guys. Unfortunately they use cyano glue instead of locktite. As you found, heat is your friend.
    I have the 12428 and 144001 and think as brushed cars they're pretty good.
    I went with the equivalent LC racing BL motor and ESC on the 144001. New Dumbo RC radio, and it's turned it into a little weapon. LC Racing anti roll bar kit helps a lot too.. yes they fit!!
    Much smaller can and a 15 tooth pinion. Motor mount needs to be slotted out but love the way it runs now.

Stupidly fast on 2s , not even tried 3s , with the new motor , the back tyres De glued themselves to on full power , but now , it seems like the car I Thot I paid for , next time think I will buy the LC racing EMT , keep the great content coming cheers

      Wltoys do build the car in the factory without any grease on the metallic threads mm screws. When it's tighten in the factory, it does in a really strong nm torque, causing the screw "fuse" with the thread.
      Apply Wd40 or any another penettating lubricant some minutes before try to work on the screw and will be alright.

  • @halmakenreuther8843

    To get glued-in chinese screws out i would recommend a little torch. You can punctually heat up the screw very fast. Same with pinions. Soldering iron takes too long and heats up the environment too much. There is pinion remove tool on aliexpress for under 10 bucks which i can recommend too.
    Biggest problems on the wltoys are the too soft metals and no adjustable motor mounts.
    So as you did i installed a 3650 motor with 3300 kv on mine. No cogging at all. Lets see how long it will survive 😁

    Since you don’t know the secret yet I’ll share it with you. WLTOYS doesn’t use loctite, they use yellow glue.

    I think the issue with cogging and the WL Toys line of 1:12 scale buggies is with the differential and the CVD drive shafts. They bend a lot under load and actually with a brushless setup they will bend the dog bones out of the stub wheel axles, and sheer the metal to pieces on the stub wheel axle. I’m gonna order 4 CVDs with the stub wheel axle built into it, as well as the aluminum tie rods and upgraded diff gears. Next upgrade will be a more quality transmitter and receiver, but after watching this video if i choose to swap motors as well, I’ll be ordering a fresh motor mount and pinion 😂

    Good morning from the US! Awesome video, love the side by side comparison shots. My 124017 cogs terribly as well, of course. What size pinion did you use when you put the bigger motor in? Thanks and keep up the great content!!

      Hey there! Kepping with the theme of the video, being trying to fix it as cheap as possible we kept the same stock pinion 🍻

      @@TheRcKiwis wow so with the same stock pinion and a faster motor I bet a speed run with the 124017 upgraded like yours must be seriously fast. I get 60 mph and a PB of 63 (mph not kph BTW) with my v1 bone stock on a 3s and 6mm taller wheels. I imagine yours would easily break 70mph with taller wheels and 3s lipo then. Have you tried it yet?

    Motor Upgrade or ESC Upgrade is best solution I have found. I don't rate WLToys' service as they don't answer emails and once they realised they had sold sub standard products they simply released a V2 and an upgrade pack to purchase. Shame on you WLToys!!!

    I think it's cheap solder an to much flux at the bullet connectors. Change either motor or ESC and the problem goes or improves. I've seen others use different brand 2845 sized motors and fixed it as well as the bigger 3650 .

    Hi thanks for the great content loving your videos. I’ve just ordered my purple wltoys 124019 buggy. I intend on getting the 1/10 buggy also.
    I was wondering if you can help with the purple one first but the plan is same for both. I want to upgrade them to go as fast as possible in a straight line. So I understand I need to change the receiver and esc as they are combined. Do that mean there is no possible way to use the original controller supplied with the car ? Could you suggest some good motor and esc and any other parts needed to get this car to drive to around 70mph with out blowing up on a regular basis.
    Also for straight line speed should I change the shock oil and if so what weight front and rear?
    Thanks very much for your help in advance.
    I’d also need to know that’s best full tool kit to work on these cars. Sorry for lots of questions lol any help would be great. If you have an email I’m happy to mail you and talk that way.
    I live in uk so I know we have time difference also .

    I know if you strip a 2mm grub screw, a T8 torx bit, heat applied to the thread, table vice and a hammer works well to remove a stripped grub screw 😳

      Cheers for sharing that mate!

    • @michaelrc9098
      @michaelrc9098 Před 2 lety +1

      No problem, reason being is the T8 bit's just ever so slightly oversized, and once the grub screw starts to round off, the T8 bit with a bit of force can fit in and you're able to torque the grub screw out, and heat is important at this stage as if you strip a grub screw or whatever with a MIP driver initially, you're definitely dealing with red threadlock or something that requires heat. In your video, the MIP bit wasn't the problem! The bits of metal shards you get is from the "soft steel" in the grub screw, not the tool bit! ;o

    Wltoys brushed motors are pretty fast too

      @@TheRcKiwis yes it can, but in the motor specifications we have something about 75A draw, while esc is only 60A 😅
