Was wondering if you still have the attic setup or have changed your mind and moved all your antennas outside and on the roof? Do you still believe that in-attic setups are as good as on-roof setups?

I have a Bobcat and improved my rewards by placing a 5.8dbi antenna in this apartment attic with 11ft cable. Can’t attach to roof but might try a tree with Nebra outdoor if it ever arrives.

Remember the higher the number the narrower the line of sight. Lower the wider the signal angle. It will be interesting with the antenna you have, how it works with the network.
I'm hoping this one will do it. Otherwise I'll try an 8 dbi one next.

Really looking forward to seeing the results from the attic placement. I’m in a situation I have some tough spots to put an antenna. Thought about putting it in the attic but thought I would lose too much of the signal. Next step would be my roof or on the flag pole in my front yard.
We'll give this a week in the attic before seeing what a roof placement looks like.
im going with the attic to avoid running a ground wire plus much lower signal loss

Hi, I managed to locate the antenna in the attic, my house have roof tiles . I runing a RAK 8db antenna with 16 feet coaxial cable at approximately 8 meter high from fundation. I went from 29 progressive witnesses to 32, 52, 63, but in last couple days the network has been inconsistent on income. At least I improved the witnesses.

A straight line from my miner to my closest is 1.2 miles. The next closest is about 1.5 miles.

I went into this seeing I would almost be a lone wolf miner. My deciding factor was knowing that I could make CZcams content on these miners even if the rewards aren't stellar. If you want to have fun and problem solve like I have been doing, go for it! If you're sold the dream from other CZcamsrs... run away! lol

I just put my miner in my attic as well and immediately saw an increase in rewards. I have a 8dbi antenna.

I still didn't got my bobcat I will get my bobcat after two months but my experience of watching many videos in CZcams this will be bad choose 10 dbi and I think you need only 5.8 dbi and place it on roof
It's all trial and error for me.

If you're doing 25 meters you MUST use lmr400 cable. It looked like your on very lossy lmr240 or equivalent. If you can get away with it, do 10 meter LMR400
I'm using a 25 ft cable, but I don't think it is lmr400. I'll be looking into those cables today. Thank you!
@@NerdyDudeStuff I set up WiFi at RV parks for 13 years. Definitely got to know my cable. You can look up loss numbers, and the difference is pretty phenomenal when you go above even 12ft.
@@NerdyDudeStuff Also at 915mhz windows are bad...so your attic mount should help. Since drywall and/or plywood and roof tiles should be WAY less blockage. But in these frequencies you will DOUBLE your coverage by being open air.
I’m in fla as well on the west coast N or Sarasota. Just bought 2 RAK gold hot spots, with 8dbi and I’m debating on getting at 10dbi i because of losses from lmr and going through things. I have around 25-30 within 10km of me but spread out.
I’m in Florida as well (fort lauderdale) and was thinking of putting my bobcat in the garage and running it up my attic but it’s so hot and humid I’m nervous of ruining it. My earnings are like a flatline SMH little to none
Garage isn’t too bad. Mine just has a fan on it 24/7. Will probably turn the fan off in the 6 cool days we get for FL winter! 😂

I am also considering putting the miner in my attic but have the same concerns as you. NorCal summer heat can be brutal and I’m sure my attic hovers around 100°. Unfortunately I am not the president of my HOA.
I kept the miner down out of the attic but the antenna is okay up there.
@@NerdyDudeStuff i would rather not have such a long antenna cable because of the dbi loss so I’ll have to figure something out. Maybe a long antenna cable during summer and mounting the Bobcat in the attic during cooler months
The HOA? HOA can’t tell you to not put an antenna on your roof. It’s illegal. Protected by the US gov.
As President of my HOA, I get a lot of people that submit applications to out a satellite dish on their roof and I always vote yes.. so I’m just being safe. An antenna might be okay but a big metal pole/structure for holding the antenna might be different.

I’ve been waiting for my bobcat and 3 people popped up in my hex, what do i do, just get higher?
36 dbi is the most a bobcat can put out 27 from the box plus another 9 from an antenna. If you tell your miner its using a 10 dbi antenna it knows right away to throttle back 1dbi because with 10 dbi antenna your at 37dbi 1 dbi more than fcc allow. Plus your losing about a db in cable loss maybe. So you might be adding 10 but losing 2. Still better than stock and a flatter signal at about 35 db.
I use a 10 dbi antenna but I list that I'm using a 9dbi. If it thinks that I'm adding 9dbi to the 27dbi the box outputs I'm right at the 36dbi max the fcc allow so it shouldn't pull wattage. And I'm using 35ft lmr 400 so I'm probably losing about 1.5 dbi but the box is putting full power.
Even if I use more than a 9 dbi antenna ill never list that I'm using higher than 9. I'm testing this now I definitely could be wrong. I see a lot of 1 dbi antennas with witnesses 60 km away makes me think these people just aren't updating their antenna for this reason
Going with ethernet over wifi is the better move. All the miners that I have keep going back to relayed when I use wifi, so I am not sure what is going on. But just like you, my goal is to at least get my money back at a minimum.
I have an ancient modem that’s being replaced tomorrow and will help. Spectrum looked at my signal and was like, yeah it’s messing up.. we’ll send a tech!
But with your relayed stuff, did you set static IPs? That was my issue the first week. So now everytime I reboot my router, it locks in the port forward IP to my miners.

The 10dbi won't be a great antenna, get yourself a really tuned 6dbi or lower, you want mid gain up high (4-6dbi), tuned for 915
I've got 2 RAK 5.8s coming.
I would almost always say don’t go 10 dBi, but in this case I would like to see how it goes. He’ll lose around 1.5dBi at 25-30 feet antenna cable length, and he will lose around 2-4dBi through the wood and shingles of the roof, leaving him with a potentially perfect, gain-wise, setup.
@@JourneyJames76 you don't make up for loss and buy a bigger antenna, that'll just send a weaker signal out in a tiny radiation pattern, you still want the better spread of a 4-6dbi than a 10

Pull up your miner in the app and it's the gear symbol in the top right.
If you are the president of the HOA try and get one or two other people to signup with emrits or ihub or one of the other free miner programs. Having more in your area will bring the rewards up and if they get a free one then it's a win-win and nobody is out any money.
But my community is so small, I don’t think a single house would get outside my 350m range

Your probably lose around 1.5 dbi with how long your cable is but with a 10 dbi cable your still do super well 😀 😉

not really, assuming the cable is RG-58 it would be at 25ft 4db loss through the cable alone not accounting the adaptors.
Why cant you put tge antenna on the roof isnt it weatherproof that way it would have to go threw any wall?
Next step will be the roof if this doesn’t give me solid results. I saw a few small youtubers show attic placement results and I figured I’d try that first since it would be easier for me.

I saw a “commonly bought with” bundle on Amazon when I was looking into cables and an antenna mount. Saw it with 5 star reviews and grabbed it. It was cheaper, so I might be the first 1 star. It’s all trial and error for me right now
