As someone who visits Piggly Wiggly often for my grocery shopping needs I must sadly say there are no costumed pig creatures telling people to eat raw meat there.
That's probably for the better
I have been there too.
There may not be costumed characters, but there's damn good and pretty cheap fried chicken.

This reminds me of how dairy (or at least milk) can be replaced with other foods. things like milk companies and other dairy conglomerates push it cause it makes then money with false claims like that it "makes your bones strong", or it "makes you grow taller".
The weirdest part about the deep freeze dude is that he's clearly supposed to be a penguin; why didn't they give him an actual mascot costume as well? Did they cheap out at the last second, or something similar? They just put a beak over his nose and called it a day, and it looks awkward.
The entire budget went to the Piggly Wiggly mascot costume. Look at that rolling OSHA violation called a shopping cart.
After what looks like a Muppet, and what I assume is the same, in the form of the aforementioned Piggly Wiggly costume, I think I'd agree with that.
I swear the beak is weird, looks like "nose holes" on the bottom of that beak thing. Was that for the human or was that just put on upside down? If its meant for the actor, its not very discreat

I mean I think they were trying to combine the penguin costume with the Elvis costume. My sister dug this VHS up from our stash a couple years ago and speculated that that actor's half-decent Elvis impression was the only reason they hired him

When I was in middle school they made us watch a VHS called "Mysteries of the Food Pyramid", featuring a "cool" character named the "Food Pyramid Dude" that no kid would ever think was cool. It was as dated in 2005 as it was way out of our age range. I hope someday someone makes a video on it, it's comedy gold.
There was only one video of it with 36 or 37 views (Because I watched it)

Yeah you've probably never heard of Piggly Wiggly because they're mostly in the Deep South. There's also a lot in Wisconsin apparently. They were the country's FIRST self-service grocery store, founded all the way back in 1916. Reminds me of a Barney-esque Qubo show I used to watch called Elliott Moose that was half live-action, half cartoon

Not only is there a chain called Piggly Wiggly, I saw a knockoff store called "hoggly woggly."
I just don't understand how one reaches a place in life that they think "Piggly Wiggly" is a good name for.... anything, let alone a place where people get food.

The town I grew up with used to have a Piggly wiggly but it was closed. The logo was on the brick wall and I've always wondered about it. My uncle has a framed bag. But I think the closest one we have is in the city.

I actually saw this as a kid! My cousin had the VHS and me and my brother watched this and I always wanted to see this featured on Chadtronic! Absolutely awesome.

Funny thing, apparently frozen food has more nutrients than buying fresh food from the grocery store, the freezing keeps the nutrients inside. Unless you get ur food straight from the garden, then fresh is probably better

I think the whole thing is just an advertisement for Piggly Wiggly lol. Once you start thinking about it from that angle and the educational component as secondary, the whole thing makes a lot more sense

As a guy that comes from the mid west of America. I’ve seen piggly wiggly’s before when I would go to places like Alabama and Florida for relaxing vacations in the past. This piggly wiggly video however is just weird in the same levels as Colby’s Place

Piggly Wiggly is/was a great grocery store if you went to stock up on whatever they had on sale for the week, whether it was pork butt, turkey, and anything inbetween. My dad used to get loads of bacon and pork chops for a good price. Unfortunately, nowadays the location are a little too spread out to merit driving all the way to one simply for one or two types of food. I had no idea that they tried to jump on the Barney train! 😆
Same for Winn-Dixie, and Bi-Lo stores back in the day, and Food Lion is barely hanging on in my area of SC with KJ's Market(IGA)having taken over a lot of old Food Lion, and Bi-Lo stores.

To give them credit, the pig costume is *VERY* good
Fresh isn't healthier than frozen, actually some veggies start to lose their nutrition the second they are picked and flash freezing stops that. Also almost all fish has been frozen even if you buy fresh most of it has been frozen then thawed out in controlled way to still seem fresh.Frozen is not unhealthy and can be the better choice like fries are fluffier inside if frozen before cooking .

I believe he is referring to Frozen meals which constitute the majority of the freezer section at grocery stores not a bag of frozen peas.
@@sclarin2 Most likely, as frozen prepared meals are loaded with preservatives and are lousy for additives like salt and sugar. Even the labeled "healthy" frozen meals are terrible for that, as they can only get away with the "healthy" label because they're not _as bad_ as their competition, so they can legally claim to be a "healthier" option.

I actually live near a Piggly Wiggly but it's not my first choice of where to go for shopping.Can also say that "penguin" has got to be one of the first times I've seen a portrayal trying to make them seem more like an Elvis/Rockstar sort of thing than a sophisticated bird or Batman villain.

I immediately thought this was the "Piggly-wiggly" mascot as soon as I saw this. Sadly a lot of them are getting shut down due to competition against other popular grocery chains, you'll only ever find them still open in more rural towns. But they had their prime sometime ago before any of us 90's kids can remember. I even painted Christmas themes on the windows for one store. I think it's stinking cute and hilarious that the grocery chain made this video. Thanks for sharing with us Chad! Loved this. I would love to see you thoroughly review more 90's vids like this even though I enjoy the cursed commercials as well.

i've been to many Piggly Wigglys in Louisiana, they don't have them in Washington of course. my mom told me that she once stole the mascot costume when she was young and she walked in a parade beside the store dressed in the piggly wiggly outfit waving at people like she was part of the parade lol

I do remember a Piggly Wiggly existing in Honey Grove, TX where my great aunts lived.
My hometown is Memphis, Tennessee and one of my ancestors named Clarence Saunders started Piggly Wiggly. He was building a giant mansion called The Pink Palace, which is something right out of the Great Gatsby, when the Great Depression hit. The City of Memphis eventually seized the unfinished palace and turned it into the city’s museum. There is a full sized replica of the first Piggly Wiggly within the museum.

I feel very envious of you not knowing what Piggly wiggly was before watching this. I live in the south, where Piggly wiggly stores can be found fairly easily, so the moment the name Piggly wiggly was mentioned in the video and I realized that this was just a big advertisement, I started feeling immediate pain.
Fun Fact: in the movie Space Jam the Nerdlucks enter Looney Tunes land by going underground via a Piggly Wiggly parking lot.
