Filmmaker Cat Rhinehart spends one year closely following comedian Ralphie May, leading up to his planned weight loss surgery. Initially intended to be a weight loss documentary, what is captured instead is a raw and intimate portrait of a family dealing with addiction, a wife coming to terms with her inability to change the person she loves, and a tragically flawed comedian breaking down during one of the last years of his life.

This is the equivalent to that Robin Williams (Robin's Wish) documentary his wife made to squeeze all that $$$ out of him... No wonder his kids weren't in it. Sad. I loved Ralphie May. I am a big guy myself 5'9" 330. He inspired me I know that. One funny dude. I still watch his stand ups regularly Jack.
Same here! Whenever I'm feeling down I watch one of his long sets and feel better. Wish they wud spend time putting together all his stabs up work in one CD...I'd definitely buy that!

I don't know what the point is of this documentary. I choose to remember Ralphie at his best times. Why not put his best material together? Why this? Ralphie had problems? Really? Yeah, we all do. Why should the public be privy to all these private moments?
I would assume because he literally says, “Tell my story, be honest. Good and bad.” It’s literally in the trailer. He states his wishes directly.

I mean they were getting divorced, but saying Ralphies wife “left him” implies she just up and abandoned him selfishly... that’s not how it went down at all... Ralphie was on a crash course for disaster, and everyone knew it.

@@claymack1109 Ralphie was doing some sleeping pills to help him sleep at night the weight he had on him at the time restricted basically everything you and I can do that involves pushing air out of your lungs. Man 6 700 pounds dog..... Miss him a lot. World's alot different too.
Divorce brings out the worst in people. No headstone for years is pretty bad though…that’s the father of your kids who most likely left your kids millions

A wonderful wife. children too. Have some compasion for all. We were blessed to have him to give us the laughs and comedy.
Lahna Turner? she is not a wonderful "wife" Ralphie talked about it openly, she was trying to drain him of all his money and filing divorce right before he died.

Facts!!!!!! I don't know why she's bullshitting? its been ready for 2 years now!!! Maybe "The Smash Brothers" stand up comedy team have to do this for her too!! since it was them that paid for with there own money and bought Ralphie May a beautiful proper headstone for his burial site, since for "some reason??" Lana never purchased one?? So the smash brothers found out, when they went to pay respect when they were in town a few years back doing a show and we're heartbroken, lana wouldn't return there call's to ask permission to buy one for him. so they did it anyway.. they never told anyone, so nobody would think they did it for clout and out of respect. until a couple years passed, and they were being interviewed on joey diaz podcast and Ralphie name was talked about in memory, and they told the truth on lana and the whole cemetery thing because it feels like she has been disrespectful in so many ways since he passed, including keeping All the money raised by fans towards this Documentary. Its heartbreaking, and plain FUCKED UP! if anyone just looks into this Documentary and the money and the interview the smash bros had with Joey diaz, and so much more, you will be extremely upset of how she's handled everything!! just saying..R.I.P RALPHIE MAY.
