NHRMC Heart Center - STEMI Training Video

At New Hanover Regional Medical Center, we strive to continually find ways of cutting heart attack treatment times to give patients the best chance at a full recovery. The STEMI process is at the center of this mission. STEMI stands for ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction.
Myocardial infarction, or MI, is the clinical term for heart attacks.
NHRMC Heart Center works with hospitals and paramedics around the region to perform EKGs and immediately call a Code STEMI for patients experiencing a STEMI. By doing so, they set in motion a series of steps at NHRMC. Cardiac and Emergency teams are activated, the catheterizations labs are prepared and the equipment is ready for the patient to be moved to treatment on their arrival. Just had a STEMI 2 weeks ago, 1st 2 hours I thought it was a pinched nerve in my neck (I have a history of C6-C7) because pain was only on my left arm and shoulder with no sweating. Called my wife- she's a M.D. and so am I- she took me to the ER but V1 to V4 already has ST elev and Q wave. 2 stents in LAD but later that night I had Pulmonary Edema and LVF, EF is only 35% now.

Even without ST elevation we still assume a heart attack if symptoms add up and the labs are abnormsl

Leads II, III and AVF are inferior leads and they gave 3 nitros. 😳

with our protocols, as long as systolic is above 120, nitro can be given. if not, fluid bolus then nitro
