Lyrics:
They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For tryin' to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
I'm guided by a signal in the heavens
I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those
Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
I don't like your fashion business, mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those
And I thank you for those items that you sent me
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
(I am guided)
Ah remember me, I used to live for music (baby)
Remember me, I brought your groceries in (ooh baby yeah)
Well it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded (baby)
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom

I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them

In another life, Leonard Cohen was an opera singer.
Those are some cool cats... Cohen was a poet and a prophet, the man was unmatched and always will be.
He is not only an excellent musician, poet and singer (gifted with a golden voice!) but also someone who gathers congenial, extraordinary artists around him always succeeding with an impressing, wonderful performance... yet he embodies the utmost humility and convincing simplicity as a real human, not only a star... he's simply a genius of the best kind... CHAPEAU, Leonard & band...!!!! :))))
A congenial, extraordinary background tape. Yes.
I think an artist like Leonard Cohen deserves more than poppy, synth electronics only to make him more accessible to a larger audience (the wallet of the music industry).
You might think there is credit for the backing vocals. Yet, besides auto-tune for the lead singer, the background choir has been dubbed, usually between 4 - 6 times to guarantee an almost flawless performance while keeping the sound as natural as possible. It might be sobering but this is since decades the normal procedure.

From the first time I heard Leonard Cohen, some 47 years ago, and until now, he is my favorite artist and I don't see who could take his place. I was also incredibly lucky to see him live in the Roman Amphitheater in Pula when he last time performed in Croatia.
RIP dear Leonard, you live on through your unsurpassed work.
❤
Read his poetry and books maybe the world would be a happy place 🎉🎉🎉
Can't help it when I listen to that song when I became 54 years, just like I couldn't help it in 1986 , when I was 16 . Genius vocalist, genius poet . Love you man.
Magnificent, as always. I must pay my respects to the ladies, as well. Amazing harmonies, just beautiful.
Still sad that he died. What a man. I want to hug him one day in heaven. Miss him so much...
You don't get to go to heaven by living a sinful life. "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."
@@deanpd3402 You can make it, too! We'll wait there for you!
I truly hope to meet in heaven, I know many things, I have a friend though I am a widow, but if I say anything about my knowledge, I am put down, I moved out of house as soon as I could, it still hurts so much...because I am not allowed to talk about things that my late husband and I could, we were equals, life with this man was horrible, even he did a lot of things for me, it was about he gain. As you can guess he is a Democrat, a fool. I moved out. Because I was lower than the dog...a dog I trained, and made his life better, in other words, I messed up big time.
Our company had a box at the O2, not many others really wanted to see him. I went every night - he was fantastic!!
The bass on this concert is better than the studio work. This I think is the best version of this song.
Me too!
All versions are the best.. His songs defy negativity
couldn't agree more!
A lot of the 80s era studio albums really havent aged well in terms of arangement and recording. The style of music he does really doesnt suit the sterile situation of a studio, especially the way music was recorded in the 80s. His live performance arangements where way more human and soulful imho. Less Yamaha DX7 and more Rhodes stage piano, so to speak. Its kinda frusturating actually. He wrote some of his best music in that period, but the arangements just yeah a bit too 80s, and I kinda suspect forced on him by the label. Cos I know that in a situation where he had the best people and no commercial pressures, these songs could have sounded as vibrant and amazing as the versions he did live where.
The magic of Roscoe Beck Bass player and MD
One the greatest performances ever.
I love it when they tell us their plans so boldly like this!
Now yuo see
I listened this song a 100 times and love it more and move I adore and admire you Leonard
If you like the plot to take down. The west by communists .
Incredible. I live on a Greek island like Leonard ..this is so Greek ❤and beautiful ❤total poet.. hear the bouzouki or mandolin xx RIP Leonidas .
These recordings are a masterclass in cool.
His band was just so damn good.
Feel blessed to have the chance to see them live for what I think without any doubt, was my best live act I have ever seen
Un grandissimo signore della musica e della poesia. A great gentleman of music and poetry
12 string acoustic. Everyone was so damn good. So damn good. Sorry I can´t say more than that!
totally .... each one of them is a genius
Cohen's band is a show apart
True genius, artist and philosopher. Such talents are rare in a world that needs it.
They took Berlin in the 30*s of the last Century... we still are under their obedience... I really don't know why I like his music.... but I do
Surely rarely happens in U.S., very disappointed about Hollywood, and they are idiots, none of the movies are good....at least there is UTube.

Only for stupid idiots who no longer feel anything!
look at all the band members, they're on point and really enjoying the performance!

Hello 👋
True masterpiece, Sharon Robinson and Webb Sisters... Simply one of the greatest musical chemistry in the universe.
He knew how good those ladies are x
Absolutely is in one of my top 100 music videos/songs OF ALL TIMES. IMHO this is Leonard Cohen's coolest song/video ever. peace to all.
"...a Masterpiece from every angle" 👍🌻👋😎
Fantastic song and these background singers take it to a whole other level! Just wonderful!
Masterly performance.
Of all of lens performances of this Masterpiece, thairs no question that this is up there with the very best. Beautiful performances from the ladies, perfection from the band ,thank you all .
This is superb, the best version, notwithstanding the lack of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Cohen gives the lyrics their full import.
That would be a dream collaboration.
Wow he hits all the notes even on a live performance, that's really good
Love the Webb Sisters!
I love this voice, I love this man, I love how I feel when I'm hearing his music.. as if I were flying
100%
This Is perfection, and oh lord those women...Love Leonard ❣️
Hello 👋
The wind instrument gives me such shivers and his voice is just incredible and with age got just better and better... RIP Leonard Cohen and thank you for such wonderful music and songs that we still love and cherish.
Love is Energy, even when lovers are separated.
Cannot get enough. Especially with Vince Vega on drums
How about the bass?
THANK YOU! Another drummer in the audience. I'm a Grind Core drummer all day long, but I would do anything to play for Cohen or Tony Benent.
V.V. is fantastic.
Era um génio!!!
being a fun of hard rock music let me tell you ,it s great song, great great song
sorry for wrong fun spelling
This man had a vision, and i love and mis his voice.
This life in London is some of the best music of MY LIFE. This is generational.
It’s never too late to add my opinion but I’ve this gut feeling that he knew he has so heavy a burden of sins but he seeks for reasons and found the spirit ( if it’s your will) that uplifted him and gave him another chancE .. for me he was touched by God and was given the light as he have used repent, prayer and His will amongst his writings… my humble contribution I guess from where I’m so enamored with his songs…
Brilliant
30 fois 50 fois et plus, regardé, écouté ce morceau de musique est un bonheur. Talents multiples au service d'un AUTEUR d'une immense envergure toujours alive. Bref j'adore
THANK YOU FOR PUBLISHING THESE SINGLES FROM THAT PARTICULAR LONDON CONCERT……it’s a dream came true for me

The music Genius known as Leonard Cohen!
Ah.... How happy he looked at the end😍😍😍😍😍😍
Yes the depression lessened and he was able to enjoy the stage and adulation. I'm so happy for him and it transformed his earlier renditions to perfection!
I’m addicted. Wow he was the best. His concert in London was one of best albums of all time👍
This is a man I’d fall in love with instantly.
Have you heard, "I'm Your Man?" Me too. No question.
I love him. Oops. I am repeating myself.
miss you Leonard!
He left us with enough poetry x
Que homem maravilhoso!
So grateful to have been there and seen him.
Epic! Sad I came to love Cohen so late, I’m kicking myself for not going to the concert!!!
You're not alone with this. Such a carismatic performer and totally brilliant with words.
Same for me, but he only starts to rock in his late years, just like Johnny Cash. How could we have known?
back in the '60's he was a quiet Canadian gem or so we thought, he was always better than we ever knew.
me too and
@T. Hall You sound like a jewish Federal-Reserve-Usurer.
Such a great performance... Love it all! Legend!
Let it come true
Cohen eternal poet, I LL DO A STATUE, Honouring your soul on my city, Braga Portugal

Your music has paved my entire life from child to a middle aged woman.
Loved and lost💔
Poetic and prophetic.
He has a way of taking me to a higher place! Love and will miss him forever. I hope he is playing in heaven with my late husband and with Alto Reed, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and all the greats!🎸🎺🎹🎧🎼
@Shoqzzzsmo zzzQAlo what does that mean, get help?

I do appreciate Leonard, in particular this.
The girl with a hat is so beautiful it's unreal. I'm just looking at her over and over again.
In the 70s perfect music to get st***ed too. And now I’m 70 I still listen as often as possible. Miss you and love you b

It's unconsolably sad that I won't be attending a Leonard Cohen concert in my life
Souhitya Sen same. Same
My boyfriend took me to one about 2 years before he passed away. The man was on stage for six hours! By far and away the most epic concert I've ever been to. That night, I went from "Who's Leonard Cohen" to "Baby, I would do him in front of you." I've been obsessed with his music ever since.

Cohen and his band are like family...utmost respect and appreciation for each other
Love the way he says the word beauty in his songs. Beau-ty. Not beau-dy.
REM does an amazing cover of this song. But Leonard stands alone.
Yeah man! I've heard a few ppl actually and kk!e most prob as it a classic abso brilliant this and closing to!a my fave 2
Let's hear it for the band - and the expanded lyrics in Lenny's version.
Cohen estaba fuera de nuestra órbita. No hay calificativos. Genio es nimio, insuficiente... para describir a un ser más brillante que las estrellas y 👐🏼🙏
Esto es savoir-faire!!! 👏👏👏👏
Perfection right there.
аmazing, can't stop listening :)
