Really like this movie. No wartime romance, just straight combat from beginning to end.
Yes! The romance part always gets annoying real quick 😂
But... they loved killing the aliens. Still a better love story than Twilight.

Great recruitment tool for young suckers.

It's not exactly Shakespeare, but I love this movie. I wanted "soldiers fighting aliens" and that's EXACTLY what I got.

Humans: "We are at war with aliens"

More like "got some food"
Which makes you think, why was the dog spared, were the aliens only targeting humans or did they not notice the dog?
@@TheRealZombieWizard Probably as an ambush tactic to let their guard down
I think they were patrolling when the dog got out and that they just kinda of let it go, why bother? But hearing the humans they got into ambush positions.
The best part about this movie is that the aliens didn't overwhelm these Marines by standing out in front of them and shrugging off bullets with superior technology. These aliens would have ambushed these Marines exactly the same way with old tech. Work into a superior position, distract, pin down, flush into the kill zone. It's just a better alien invader movie. No worries about their motivation because they don't care to communicate it and the humans don't need to know. It's highly underrated as a piece of art that way. I know it doesn't read like The Hurt Locker or anything and they do have their eyerolling melodrama moments, but depicting an alien invasion this way hasn't really been done before.

It's because they were in a war so it's worse what's coming

Great point. I was just thinking about the way the men were stunned at / that the aliens abilities and tactics would mimic our own. War is war, and they are much smarter by weaponizing a man’s hubris against him instead of their advanced technology.
I’m the only person in my family who likes this movie. When we were doing a purge of movies we don’t watch, I smuggled the disc away to my room. Sometimes I watch it when no one’s home. I don’t know what they have against it, I love this movie.

One of the best Alien Invasion films made to date, very underrated. They created an Alien force that looked completely foreign but operated as a structured Military.
This movie was so over dramatic and cringe. I could barely sit through the whole thing.

Absolutely loved the part where the alien rises from the pool behind the soldier. The camera angle. Just everything. I love how the Director gives you just enough time to watch the alien lift up it's weapon and aim. Right before it cuts to the soldier turning around.
Many props to the Director for such attention to detail in that small part. The aliens' tactical abilities in this film make them so menacing. Damn, such a very underrated movie.
Predictable.
I'm almost sure the aliens understood that dog was a domestic animal and send it to distract marines just to take them by suprise. Maybe.... maybe not
That makes sense. I thought they used it to gauge the distance between them as well.
I like to think even the aliens knew not to kill the fuckin dog xD
“Commander! We have an earth-beast running south! Four legs, pointed ears! Permission to neutralise?”
“Negative, Private. That’s a dog. Pre-landing research determines them to be of great cultural significance to humans.”
“All due respect, Commander, but why should we care?”
“High risk of escalation. Kill the dog and this whole planet’ll never let us hear the end of it. Leave it alive, see if it can provide us with any leads. Over.”
They mastered intersteller travel, im pretty sure they were capable of understanding the human/ "pet" relationship.

Taken from predator.
Predator does the same thing to distract Jessy Ventura and let his guard down.
Not sure why this is one of the best damn alien invasion movies in recent times. The enemy is aliens, but the combat is very much like what we've seen real world against human armies.
Yeah, because I can easily see this same scenario happening in Fallujah or somewhere.
@@longxiao9823it kinda is, just replace the ak47s with energy powered ak47s
If you watch the directors cut, it was heavily hinted that the aliens battling against the humans were more of a colonizing force. The aliens were theoretically escaping another war invasion of their home planet and happened to land on planet earth first. If the aliens' brought their actual military; earth would had been toasted in less than a few days.
@@coolgamers2794 That's a cool concept. Imagine you beat these aliens thinking you won, but then their actual military shows up and you realize you only took out the scouts.
@@AkimboJVI remember the "Behind the scenes movie" talk; the aliens here escaped a war with other alien life forms back at their home planet. These were suppose to be more of farmers to terraform earth to make it hospitable for them only. The humans happens to be in the way only.
Watching this movie in the cinema was one of the best experiences ever. The way this movie is shot, and how loud they turned this movie up, shook the whole building. idk whats good about that movie. The basic shaky camera bs the 2010s and late 2000s where infamous for. Lackluster brutality and combat. Stupid high tech aliens. The millionth Private Ryan homage.
And considering how 2024 went with Dune or Fallout gotta say, your statement aged very poorly. Movies sucked in the 2000s and 2010s. Since people are making movies, we've accumulated a huge pile of shit movies, and thats not the fault of any generation of movies. We just tend to remember the really good ones like LotR and tend to forgett b class shit like Battle Los Angeles.
The dog was the smartest one of them all, he was trying to run from the ambush. He even tried to warn them but they just had to stay in position.
Talk about a movie that could have been the start to an amazing franchise.
yeah, I would have loved to have seen a follow up movie myself.
Would’ve been nice, but… eh. Probably better that it wasn’t. Hollywood seems to have forgotten lately that stories can and should have endings. The franchise is a powerful and treacherous temptress.

Truly, as @MikMoen said, "one of the best Alien Invasion films to date, very underrated", indeed.

Certain movies aren't my thing (romantic dramas), but I'm not going to poo poo on them because I don't like them. That's what I feel critics do. @@gnomechomsky2524 Actually, the invasion force isn't even an invasion force. The aliens we see in this movie are running from another race of even more powerful aliens. Earth is their final hope for survival and their fight on Earth is basically their final attempt at life. They are desperate.
For a desperate race of aliens, they sure did some major damage in a very short time.
To be honest, these aliens are only slightly ahead of humans in terms of technology. It's almost like the tech they have is a result of war with a more advanced race, similar to how tech evolved during WW1 and 2.

@@WalterEKurtz-kp2jfpew pew
Those handheld weapons are actually surgically integrated into their arm. Their right hand is essentially a gun. Their bioelectric activity powers their weapons so that enemy combatants cannot turn their own arms against them if they capture a dead alien soldier.
They also have no centralized nervous system, so shooting them in the “head” or damaging a nerve cluster won’t kill or incapacitate them outright. And their mostly gelatinous mass makes them able to absorb shockwaves that would kill a normal human being, and helps cushion their vital organ.
All in all, a very efficient killing machine

Such an underrated gem, feels like what a Halo movie should be. Military Sci-Fi deserves love !
What is so cool to me is this movie was filmed in-of- all places- Shreveport, Louisiana! I miss those days of following all the strange bright yellow signs all around Shreveport trying to figure out the codes- that are short-hand for the productions- for the folks behind the scenes. Almost every actor/actress you can name filmed SOMETHING-here post-Katrina. "The Guardian" with Costner was filmed here. "Whitehouse Down" was filmed here. Tom Cruise lived here for awhile while Katie Holmes filmed a movie. Costner supposedly LOVES the area and he has filmed three movies here. It was SO cool. I never ran into any stars but it was cool seeing the film crews all around town. It's truly amazing how many productions happened here before the tax incentives dried up. We are all intrigued to see what 50-Cent Jackson is gonna bring to our area after he established "G Unit" here. I've always heard besides the obvious financial incentives, Shreveport and the surrounding area are really a "blank canvas" for whatever the directors envision. "We" have been almost anything and anywhere you can imagine-and many I had a hard time believing! Lol. Being "Hollywood South" once was a really cool perk to living here. I'm hoping 50 brings back some of that vibe. It was new, exciting and different. I think folks might be a little impressed/surprised to see the list of movies and shows and all the actors who have been here. I know it's nothing special to many other common filming locales but it was THE NEWS here for over a decade. It was fun while it lasted. I drive by the house Sandra Bullock "lived" in for "Premonition" several times a day. It got REALLY exciting when the film crews would shut down neighborhood streets and the trucks and lights and all that popped up. Ah the memories...
And for the "haves" in this area the primary reason we have a Whole Foods was to placate the many "stars" and Hollywood-types who demanded one! 🤣 I've never been there yet but if Cheetos are over $5 bucks at WALMART I can't imagine how ridiculous Whole Foods pricing must be-especially in this insane economy. I'm in the upper-income level for what I do but I'll stick to good ole Wally World and Target. Lol
The aliens are so advanced they have the technology of interstellar travel, perhaps even intergalactic..... yet their guns are as primitive as ours. 😂
Humanity has long invented laser weapons, but even the most advanced army in the world still uses the primitive concept of a boomstick. Why? Probably because firearms are still quite effective. Arming every soldier with an energy weapon would not be economically feasible. That's why we fly into space, but we still explode gunpowder inside steel tubes. Most likely, the aliens from this film adhere to the same considerations. There is no need to use high-tech weapons to kill such a fragile creature as a human. It would be too expensive.
@@neongirl The most advanced weapons of war (and the ones used the most often) in modern combat aren't guns though. They are drones, radar guided missiles, smart bombs, tanks, fighter jets, etc. Bullet-firing guns will be outdated in next hundred years or so. Nanobots and smart viruses will be the weapons of the future.
"good enough" is working in aliens military too.
It's military grade 😅
Also they're body armor seems to be way better than ours, maybe they cared more about keeping their soldiers alive rather than killing
I have watched this movie more times than I care to admit. It was one I would watch during late night baby feedings. Fond, fond memories of it. No fuss. Just marines vs. aliens and it makes it feel about as scary as it actually probably would feel like.

I like the idea of an alien invasion where instead of super advanced aliens that easily conquer the planet until 1 small thing stops them, its an actual war fought in the streets and in trenches with a chance of being won
I honestly dont understand how the directors were able to depict such a normal day in LA and turn it into a movie. Well done
neat scenes but fuck me, get this cameraman a tripod lol.
Definitely!
This was a funny movie. To think aliens so advanced they can travel to distant stars yet battle like us.😂
In reality, we'd have no chance... they'd fight us without having even set foot on Earth.
I think they'd just put biological and chemical weapons into our cities and water supply from space and come down when there was nobody left.
Yeah they’d definitely just radiate us from orbit. We wouldn’t have any idea what was happening.
Maybe they’d want the sport of it? Depends on their goal? Think the predator movie?
and where do you base that answer from? They are "aliens" after all, so they think differently.
What if the goal isn't to just wipe us out? Maybe it is to learn of our capabilities/tactics which they then use to capture us and then use us as cannon fodder against another alien enemy? Ever think of that genius? Probably not. Just another armchair dbag wannabe that can't think.
Or they know that to hold ground, they still have to invade. They have the advantage considering how much fire power is actually needed to take us down, so their arrogance could be a factor.
We also only saw one part of what happened in LA.
There is a ton of possibilities on why.
But tell ya what genius, what movie have you created so we can review and make you look like an idiot? I mean I'm pretty sure I can make every movie out there look pretty stupid when it is all said and done, well maybe not documentaries as they tend to just throw the facts out there, but any movie made for entertaining can be broken down.
A real alien invasion would probably done with a highly selective range of viruses devised to take out humans only and leave other more useful animals, if these were deemed useful and edible to the aliens, alone.
I liked this movie. I was hoping for a part 2
Let's move to a new position... Then scream at each other so the enemy knows our new position...

They would be too busy exploiting the situation, and the citizens. As always.
Let’s just shake the camera as much as possible during action scenes.
exactly, i hate it when films do this, they even shake the camera when there's no action.
That was the point - it’s basically to show the ‘fog of war’ and how chaotic it actually would be fighting an advanced species. The audience sees what they see, which isn’t much because they wouldn’t have time to stand around and stare. The camera work here was intentional for a reason.
