Thanks, Dave. Sound information and I will certainly check out the programs you mention. And thanks for reminding us to check our hard drives on a regular basis because I haven't done it in quite a while. I do back up though, just to be sure to be sure. :) I love the pace of your videos and the fact that there is no thumping bass in the background and you speak calmly and clearly. Just what an instruction video needs. Cheers.
0:29 - Use The Command Prompt. 1:31 - Windows ' Check Disk." 2:58 - CrystalDiskInfo 4:58 - Hard Drive Manufacturers Software 6:23 - Hard Disk Sentinel If you're like me & you've bought a new HDD and want to check it *is* brand new and unused, skip to step 3 or step 5. Also, thanks dude, great video; super clear and to the point! I've just ordered a new 5TB HDD from Amazon, but Amazon are notorious for selling returned/used items. If a HDD has been formatted, will these softwares still show me how much it has been used/turned on etc?
Thank you! Yes, if your HDD is formatted, the info will still show up. So if your HDD has been used for 100 hours, drive then formatted, then used for another 100 hours, it will show up as 200 hours usage. It will also keep track of the number of times it's been powered on, formatted or not.
@@EasyPcRepairs Thanks man, I appreciate the info! Just ordered a 5TB HDD from Amazon. Which software is best to use to check? Or are they both just as good?
Bro the repair option are not 100 % sure that will fix the HDD errors and even if they fix them it will be for a short time . Plus if a HDD stops working you still can manage to get the documents back. I had my HDD like 1% health and still managed to recover all my pictures and documents I had.
I like your calm tone so much! Making already clear explanations even enjoyable to listen to. Really appreciate your tutorial. Used Windows bult-in program and CrystalDisk.
Wow sr. this was awesome! Thank you for your help, were straight forward and simple. I did 3 out of the 5 tests and i found out that my disk is in a good healthy shape. Thank you so so much. Keep up the good work
Great video. It is good that you pointed out everything in detail. My wife's laptop is really slow. The manual says it has 16 GB of DDR3L ram, but the system shows it only has 4gb. No. 2, it is a 5400 rpm hard drive, but a SATA lll will fit so Samsung here we come. Thank you so much. Windows is just to elaborate for these specs..
I'm not surprised by the number of views this video has. Straight to the point. No mumbo jumbo or annoying background music! 🤬 Great video man! It was very helpful for tech challenged individuals like me. 😁 Take care, regards.
Earlier my hard drive was not detected by my system and after a restart it was. However, it was extremely slow so I looked it up and found this video. My drive shows Pred Fail so I am currently backing it up. Thank you
An excellent video; thank you for putting the time and effort into producing it! You have a very calm and soothing tone of voice, that lends itself to giving advice. Great work! :)
Thank you for the info. I was searching for items that would help with this issue. I think my laptop HD is failing, so backing it up will be step number one! I figure that any method of isolating bad sectors will corrupt the OS. BTW, It appears that someone has just taken your specific 5 methods and shuffled them around a bit to create a " 5 Methods to Check your Hard Drive Health in Windows 10 | Know about Bad Sector" video (uploaded 3 March, 2020). They even use the same two third-party tools as examples. That jumped out at me as, per my searching, i know there are other third-party tools they could have shown. Not much can be done about it, I'm sure. Just though you should know..
Thanks for letting me know about the other video. I checked it out... it's so similar to mine! Good luck with your laptop! It's never good when data is lost, so I hope you manage to sort it out.
Can’t say I’d trust disk check ( your second opinion) to be trustworthy I did that before with my old hard drive. ALWAYS came back fine healthy and no errors. Month later. Died, data recovery techs looked at it said was damaged. Disk check didn’t see issue but was dying anyway. So to reliable. Never moved computer let alone reason for it to end up damaged happen non the less. Ideal to ALWAYS have it backed up!
something i would like to know, is how do you transfer your Windows OS to a new hard drive you bought to replace the one you have been using all this time...?
Just a quick important UPDATE: WD's "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic" support had ended already and has been replaced by "Western Digital Dashboard" since the 1st of October in 2021.
Absolutely. Fabulous. A lot crammed into very little time. It was a pleasure to both upvote and watch the entire ad without Skip Ad as a gesture of appreciation to you. My boss is having some issues, and I watched this for him. (Is that brown-nosing? :-) )
My laptop hard drive is almost 7 years old, many turn offs without shutting down like I press the power button to restart, the power goes out, I often carry it in my bag with hard shaking, sometimes beaten by my sister, install lots of games. Now it's a little slow but after I defrag everything is a little smooth again.
Comman Line doesn't work for me! I have received the following error message: 'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Except this problem every hint is good...Thanks for that!
Dear Sir, Great Video! I am deeply thankful to you. Very Neat and Clear Video.. Please do Such kind stuff in future also.. Kind Regards, Basavaraj, From India.
Great video! It’s very informative. This video solved my inquiry on how to check health on drives. I think everyone is correct on about your voice. It’s very soothing and easy to follow along with instructional steps. If you were to say “now take off your pants” I undoubtedly would have followed through with that step.
Please help, my hdd is shown but it won’t open. Current pending sector count appear on the programs you named. But what can I do if I can’t acces the data?
im here for the help to fall asleep, Thx mate :D haha. came here originally looking for info regarding drives as mine are getting older, but everythings good, now ima throw this on repeat and fall asleep hahahaha
My hard drive sounds like a Honda Accord... I think that is a good way to determine it's health.

I would say they are about as good as each other. If I were to use just one I'd probably choose CrystalDiskInfo as it is a little more user friendly.
@@EasyPcRepairs the last time I had this problem it was the cause of bitlocker being🔓 this time the drive is 🔒 & still becoming full.
