- Another medley. This time in the Dragon Ball Z fandom. This is one of my favorite themes in DBZ so I decided to medley together several instances of it.
(I think I'm noticing a pattern with all these medleys I do.)

This is what we love about Bruce Falconer's music, people (at least in the Cell Saga and so on). It has CHARACTER. It has EMOTIONAL RESONANCE. It's not just there to carry a scene, it's SAYING something that impacts us deeply. It speaks to us and tells us about a character, helps us connect with them. This music IS Trunks. Any character that music like this is intended to describe or convey is bound to be awesome, and we love him for it (not JUST this, but it certainly helped).

Survive because the fire inside burned brighter than the fire around you. The soul survivor, our last hope, Trunks.
Something that always struck me as a powerful message on this music is this:
Trunks' timeline...is the true timeline.
Before the time machine, what Trunks went through was what really happened in our story.
We lost Goku before the fight began.
The Z Fighters were all murdered.
Gohan was alone, and we eventually lost him as well.
Trunks was the last legacy of our heroes.
The horror and pain of what was lost is PERFECTLY captured in this music.
Now some may call Future Trunks an overrated character. and I couldn't disagree more. He's rated highly for a reason. The dude is a calculating, efficient, battle hardened veteran who is the only z fighter who doesn't screw around with opponents. If that wasn't enough, Trunks was not only responsible for saving what was left of the future timeline after all the other z fighters perished, but was responsible for saving all z fighters in the present, of course thanks to Bulma. His timeline was a dark glimpse at a horrifying, what if scenario, where all the z fighters all died. and didn't come back. and if all that still wasn't enough, his story alone is one of, if not,,the saddest thing in the history of dragon ball. Incredible work though man. I always loved Trunk's themes. but the way you mashed all of them together. It's perfect.

Seeing what happens in his future is what made him a "no bullshit" character. If vegeta or gohan could foresee what happens when they toy with the enemy I'm overly positive they would've off'd cell without hesitation. That goes for gotenks and gohan against buu as well.
You know I realize it wasn't fair putting all that blame on vegeta and gohan when krillin is the base one to blame. Had he seen all of this leading to Gokus death he would've walked up to 18 said something cool and blew her to bits lol
+ISetYourFaceOnFire I always felt for trunks, he's DESPERATELY trying to find a way to save the people of both timelines and his family and friends. And despite this devotion he sees and commits failing acts and is berated by the father he never knew and even nearly killed. Despite this he hangs in there, goes home and picks up the pieces of his time in a concise and responsible way.
Then we saw buu saga trunks...
Nah man he's rated highly cuz he's a fucking cool badass. He's like the gentle and polite version of Vegeta who would still knock your teeth in.

Future Trunks is one of the coolest and toughest characters in all of anime IMO.
During one of those VHS trailers of Future Trunks this soundtrack was used. If any of you here are old enough to remember.

Fun fact, watching that trailer on the VHS tape “androids - invincible” is one of the earliest, most vivid memories i have of life. I was probably about 3-4 years old. at my best friend’s house. (his parents are close friends of mine)
it has the episodes where the z fighters get destroyed by 17 and 18, vegeta screaming in the rain with that legendary ost, trunks elaborating on his past with “trunks story” ost etc, I remember everything so vividly.
This is why I will always love the VHS tapes.

...that means no goten, no pan, and no bra or bulla
So yes the last of the saiyan race and the last hope for earth in his time as he's the only "Z fighter" left to defend it

The emotions expresed in these songs are so incredibly powerful. Having an understanding of the trials and sufferings Trunks went through only makes that feeling more intense. Its so beautiful how music can express so much.

Whenever I see (future)Trunks in the show I just think " he's out last hope". His themes have always given.me hope and strength to get through rough times. Thank God the Toriyama came up with probably the coolest warrior in anime history IMHO.

The slower, guitar-based version that people have asked about is a tiny part in the song called Frieza's Death and it's on Volume 2 of the soundtracks.
I don't know if there's a word for this, but Trunks is the type of chatacter that can't exist for long in the DBZ/DBS story due to how he is. He's the only one that finishes off opponents quickly, and if he were to stick around, he'd either kill all of the enemies immediately (like Babidi's henchmen) or just constantly lose and that'd be boring.
Efficient. The word is Efficient. Like you said he doesn't mess around when fighting opponents.
@@ariadnefrolich7243 no, not efficient, although he is that. He is a writing anamoly, wherein just by his existence, he shortens stories as he doesn't have the major weakness that Goku and Vegeta have.
Kind of like how Kishimoto had Madara blow up because he wrote himself into a corner making him so powerful.
He's basically dragon ball's one punch man, kind off. If he stuck around for too long he'd end every battle before it even began

My headcannon is that being exposed to God Ki makes you stronger, which is why the likes of Krillin, Roshi, and Tien were able to keep up with him for the Tournament of Power. Trunks also benefitted by being around them, but since he's a Saiyan, he got his own form that makes use of trace amounts of God Ki.
The English dub of dragon Ball super should have this play during future trunks super saiyan rage transformation

@@saiyanjohn9212 it cant happen, FUNimation and Faulconer had legal disputes about the ownership of the music and the 2 separated. It costs FUNimation nothing to just use the original music so that's what they will do from here on out. That's why DBZ Kai had no Faulconer scores.
They did him dirty in Super. I wished DBZ sticked to movies.

I never met my older half sister or my sisters daughters and they almost my age they never came from Mexico. Mother left her their when she was 9 cause to risky to sneak in a kid with strange people.

My dad's girlfriend older son died when he was only 14 at a school shooting. He was picking up his younger brother. I didn't know him but he's only like a few years older and seen him in school.
My dad's ex left us and she had a baby. I could of had an African Mexican half brother. But father didn't want more kids.
Death. Confusion. And sadness has been apart of me for a long time.

Though I'll point out that the Japanese music for Cell does have a quite a bit of character. I'm currently watching DBZ with the Kikuchi score for the first time and after a few episodes, Cell definitely has music that IS him in the same way that Faulconer's "Mysterious Youth" IS Trunks.
Ultimately, I still prefer Faulconer, but Kikuchi is not without his moments.
This was made for Trunks vs Androids and that dark future in general. It fits.
With Xenoverse having him literally working for the heavens via the Supreme Kai of Time, the name fits even more now.
Funny that he's still fighting Androids/artificial beings and their creators(Mira and Towa).
What I'm saying is it STILL fits.

im dead serious if they want to hit bank with dbs here in america bring back bruce faulconer this music is set for perfection on dbs then really honestly the it really was on dbz because even the music is what really made the show huge sometimes the soundtracks didnt go well with scenes now since they got great experience with it over the years my god dbs will be greater then any anime in america to ever hit hell possible the world but thats my opinion
actually you do realize that Bruce did not composed most of the music? He actually had a team of like 4 other synthesist and he took credit for all the work. Apparently the number of tracks he actually worked on can be counted on one hand.
thats why u bring back bruce u bring his team he took credit because it is his company and he had more help with the music that is true but who do u think they are going to talk to bruce or the people that also helped with the music its just how it goes and from the upside and downside of business great music was created.
I'm not sure if his team even woks for him anymore. From my understanding they where not happy at all that none of there names where mentioned on any of the official ost releases and Bruce's standing with Funiamtion was not very good after all that. So if they did do anything they would probably bring back the other workers. But not Bruce himself

The original trunks theme was never used in the show outside of a commercial
Scott Morgan, one of the three composers who created the bulk of the "Faulconer" score, yet went uncredited, mentioned that more of these Trunks songs were actually edited into the episodes they sent to Funimation, but Funi decided to swap them out with other tracks, probably because they thought the music wasn't exciting enough for the scenes they were originally placed in.

Future trunks is so much more bad ass then the regular timeline trunks due to the cruelty he an his family an friends endured because of the androids.

Based on this(Since I can't reply to it directly), I have a question to...anyone who might know-How much information were the composers given before composing the music? Or how much information is usually given before someone who has to create character/place themes gets to start racking their brains to make a song?

This was amazing thanks man! Future trunks is my favorite dbz character. The first time he came and destroyed frieza and king cold blew my mind when I was younger and elevated him to one of the most bad ass characters in my eyes. When he got introduced to dbz his story shaked things up as well.

this song was written or at least meant for trunks..but every time this melody was used *except during trunks promotional stuff* it was used for Goku...When he sacrificed himself against Cell...When he returned to the look out after being knocked out by Majin vegeta..when they were watching Gohan (or gotenks i can't remember) battle Super buu on the kais planet.

There's a track on Best of DBZ Vol 2 called "Frieza's Death" which features the tune briefly.
Or there's a youtube video for an unreleased track that has all of the music from that exact scene, but apparently I can't put links in the comments. It is titled "Death Of A Hero (With Lead) Frieza's Death Remix".

no the delivery was just off and maybe its because I'm completely unused to the japanese "Son Goku" but it just felt lame.
If he had maybe rephrased it "I AM GOKU, THE SUPER SAIYAN" that would have been a little better but nothing tops the I am the hope of the universe speech. it's a moment that perfectly crystallizes goku's entire character. all that power all that bad assery but still that kind protector that pure hero.

the kai dub takes the terrible view that the japanese version is objectively better in all ways. when no it isn't a strong case can be made for the american dub's score and the the subtle changes like the hope of the universe speech.

I believe so if you find the right Dbz. I just watched a clip of goku waking up from Dbz and then from Dbz Kai and the Dbz one had this music but the Kai version sounded more hip-hop-ish

To everyone saying the original "hope of the universe" bit was better than kai. No. Just no. Those lines were cheesy, forced, and completely out of Goku's character. "Ally to good, nightmare to you!", seriously? Think about the power behind these words, "You haven't figured it out yet? I'm the Saiyan that traveled all the way from Earth for the sole purpose of beating you. I am the warrior you've heard about in legends, pure of heart and awakened by fury, THAT'S what I am!", it's much better. The dialogue in kai is far more personal, rather than Goku announcing himself as the protector god of the whole universe like some knight in shining armor, he is telling Frieza "I am everything you've ever feared and more". Sorry, guys, I grew up with it as you did, and I still like it, but the Kai dialogue wins here.

Bloodlyshiva exactly! As much as I enjoy Superman, as a character, Goku is not a goody goody boy scout, he's pure of heart, but an imperfect character. In other words, his imperfections come only from a place of ignorance or naivety, not from malice. So he CAN be arrogant, vengeful, and sometimes a general pain in the ass. He's not a "hero" in the strictest sense. He's the hero the universe needs, not necessarily the one it deserves, to quote batman lol
