    Great project! I am just taking the plunge into hand planes. I can see myself doing a restoration of an old plane or three at some point.

    They are gorgeous planes Dave and your display shows them nicely. Well done!

    That plane display is by far the best one I’ve seen and like you I’ve seen a lot of them on the Internet. It really looks professional and the whole display is a wonderful tribute to the Turner planes.

      Thanks Don, these were too good to hide in a drawer.

      @@DavidStanton I fully agree. They are beautiful that’s if that’s possible with hand planes.

    Work of art! Nice job Dave. Love your OCD on getting it just right! Reminded me of a exterior door I hung years ago where I removed and reinstalled it several times till it was finally acceptable to ME!😳😄

    Wonderful display. Are the planes for use, or for decoration?

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před rokem

      Not at all. They are all sharp and used often.

    Did you have to rough up the surface of the rare earth magnets to keep them from backing out as you use the planes?
    Lovely vid. Thanks!
    Cheers!

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před rokem

      Not at all, but not a bad idea to increase the surface are of the magnet's face.

    Hi Dave, I live in Canada and I recently picked up a no 4 and no 5 Falcon Pope Planes. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on them? Beautiful restorations, great video as always!

      The planes are ok. Not top shelf but they do the job they were built for.

    That looks fantastic Dave, sorry I haven’t been with you for the past few weeks just a bad run, and my little Jack Russell (Ned) looks like he has been baited or snake bite,He is still going but very weak and really nothing the vet can do at this stage!😢

      Thanks silver! Dogs, they are so precious but annoying at the same time. Hope he pulls through.

      @@DavidStanton fingers crossed, it’s really upsetting to see such a active little dog flattened like this🙏

    No place for the Turner screwdrivers?
    It's a great display though. Must have been frustrating when the resin bubbled.

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 3 lety

      I have a turner screwdriver or 2 but this was for the hand planes.

    Lovey job may do something similar for my Stanley planes.
    May I ask what was the holding force on the magnets ? Would you go bigger on a no8 or where they plenty strong enough ?
    Thx

    • @DavidStanton
      @DavidStanton  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Woodturning UK! Not sure what strength they were but best to go strong!

    Dave, love the video.
    I’ve got an almost complete set of Australian made Carter planes (including a couple that belonged to my grandfather). I’ve made a plane till, but the angle that the till sits at means I need to add some magnets to hold the planes without the danger of them falling out. What size and strength of magnet did you use?

    • @DavidStanton

      Thanks Scott Rowlings! 19 mm here. www.carbatec.com.au/rare-earth-magnet-19mmx3mm?aff=3
