For posterity A beautiful hand made plane like that deserves to have your name carved into it. A craftsman should always be remembered for his workmanship.
That’s a good point and something I always neglect to do
I was thinking a branding iron with your logo. Love the plane, you did an awesome job!❤️
Recently my shop Doodle Dog passed away at 13 yrs old. Thx for keeping Utz in the great videos as its always a joy.
I'm so sorry. Deepest sympathy and condolences ❤
Wait a while and then find a nice pup. We raise Australian Shepards and find that 70 per cent of our pups go to folks who have lost a special pet. There are some great dogs out there who need a good home.
Dang you’re good. It turned out beautiful. So good to see you and Utz again.
Beautiful work Chris. Whomever receives the first one will definitely have a cherished piece of working art.
Chris, I really enjoy your videos. You seem like the kind of person I’d like to be around, you seem so patient. The world moves so fast, and watching you take the time to do some of these projects is fascinating - thank you for sharing!
👍🐯👍Excellent work, chamfers are nice but the lambs tongue you used here adds some elegance and beauty to the tool. Thanks for sharing your work.
Cheers.
Ütz: "oh, you wanted that?"
I love seeing Ütz
Great video. I'm just getting started in woodworking at the ripe age of 51, so I need all the tips and ideas I can get! Thank you
Very nice… Never too old to get started. I am 48 years old and love working with wood. Best regards from Southern California 👍
I bought that exact plane at a yard sale several years ago and was going to fix it up but haven't. Now I've got some inspiration and a good idea on what to do.
That thing is beautiful. I'm inspired, man. Great work!
You are the craftsman. Thanks for sharing
Great to see you back at it!
I have that same plane sitting in parts on the bench waiting to be cleaned and rebuilt. Nice job.
That sweet sweet sound of a SHARP plane.
Enjoyed every minute of this video. Thank you for sharing. 👍
I was not too sure about ‘destroying’ the frame as I tend to like the original/traditional design. However, this came out beautifully, Excellent work.
I have a couple of old planes just like that wondering if it's worth it. The added strength in the design increased my interest in doing it. Both are in fair shape and original so I have choices to make.
What a beautiful piece of art!! I have never seen any woodworking tool that beautiful! It belongs in a museum on display. Thanks for showing us your craft, and thanks for a great video.
Nice one! Will be enough for the next century
Beautiful result. I would advise those watching that these transitional planes are great user planes just as they are. Don't overlook them just because they are wooden!
Well done! Ready for another 100 years of use. I love that snick of a sharp plane blade on wood. I you’re not careful, it’s easy to plane away your wood just listening to the sound.
Excellent project Bro! No one ever says this.. but thanks for wearing eye and ear protection.. Again, Great work!
Nice job. I like how you continued the sapwood in the handle
It turned out beautifully. I like the look of the razee style planes, and it does seem to help with your tote hand being lower and closer to the workpiece.
Wow, this turned out insanely beautiful. I think you improved on the original design without taking it too far. Good call on leaving the 'frame' part raw! Also a nice touch that you shortened it using hand tools only. One question in that context: a lot of people take extreme care not to get metal filings on their workbench. You don't seem to mind... any comment on that?
Thanks for the great vid, I really liked the pace. Not too fast, not too slow... excellent!
Thank you for the kind words. I don’t make a habit of doing a lot of metal work around my work bench but occasional light work doesn’t bother me too much. I also don’t have a dedicated metal area right now. I just make sure I wipe everything off really well. Plus I almost always use oil based finishes and if a speck of metal ends up one a piece of wood it won’t rust from the oil finish like it would if I used water based finishes
Thank you! I have been wanting to make a razee plane out of a transitional. Now i have a tutorial. I have an old Ohio with a thick tapered iron that will be perfect. Love your videos. Especially the workbench .
I may even try to make an all wood razee skew plane. I bought a skew blade panel raising plane at the woodwrights school in NC. Great Video, keep up the good work.
So great to see these types of videos again, Chris! That's what got me started into more hand tool work years ago: watching one of your earlier restoration videos. Thanks again!
Thank you. I’m glad to hear that!
Your shop turned out beautiful!
Thank you!
Awesome restoration man! ☺️👍🏼
Thanks brother!
Wow you made a wonderful job of that , that's a beautiful plane and a one of now and it works well the way you did it great job well done 👏✔
It is a nice job I enjoyed watching you keep up the good work God bless
While the sapp wood adds a nice contrast, personally I would prefer the same wood coloring throughout.
Just an admission - I couldn’t do the level of work that you make look so easy! Job well done sir!
Great job on the plane and the video
I like your renewed handplane, I like your shop, I like your videos, but I love your dog!!!
I am one for restoring tools as they were designed. That being said, I also intend to use them, not put them on a shelf. Your 'restomod' is brilliant! Great choice of woods.
Beautiful work!
Amazing..beautiful work.
I couldn't help but think what a long walk that was to the miter saw as compared to the old shop! Good to see Utz in front of the camera again too. Nice job on the plane Chris!
Haha definitely is a long walk now!
Great video and beautiful plane! Would you be able to make a video explaining the parts of planes and different types of planes? I didn't know what you were talking about a lot of the time...
Bravo. I Love Thais model. From Brazil my friend.
I’m mesmerised by this gorgeous result. I agree the raw metal is devine. 💕💕
Ron Swanson approved this
Absolutely stunning 🙏🙏
God bless you brother. You have a gift...
🙏 thank you!
Good to see utze!
Very, very nice job 👍
Amazing work. You always inspire
Well done!
The shop is looking so good now. Great build as always!
Thanks bud!
I’m proud of your work. It’s absolutely gorgeous. My late father was like you. After this project I’ll call you a master of wood. Thank you for sharing.
I love the two toned wood you picked and I'm so glad you used that lighter corner!
The shop is beautiful!
You did a great job!
Always a pleasure to see Master Utz!
Great work on the plane!
Many thanks for sharing!
Be safe!
Where was this video 2 years ago when I passed up on buying a wooden jointer plane at an antique shop because the wooden base was cracked. Maybe it’s still there, maybe not, but if I ever see another … it’s mine!
I love wood working
Saw this plane on Instagram awhile back , it is even more spectacular in this video.
I love your wood color choice. I found 2 arrowheads here in Southern California that are the same color as your plane. I wish I could share a picture of them with you so you could see what I’m talking about. I really enjoy your videos… Thank you so much👍
Ahhhh I really missed your woodworking videos! So glad you are back in action. The new shop looks incredible.
Beautiful work, love the Danish Oil effect, lovely crisp cutting sound, just what a plane should look, feel & sound like.
Beautiful work
That was a beautiful job. I have a transitional plane and was wondering what to do with it. Now I have some idea. Thank you and give Utz a biscuit for being such a helpful shop buddy.
Love the wirehair
It came out really nice. Cheers
Beautiful work. Love the beginning. "Hey, I was ready, where were you?" - Utz, probably. Bringing that plane back to life was amazing.
The new workshop look amazing Chris
As always, so great to watch you work. Keep having fun out in the shop.
Awesome plane.
I love this Chris. And man the shop is coming together! Such an awesome huge space. Well earned my friend.
-Ben
You definitely did a Beautiful job, I’ve got my Grandfathers wood plane like yours and just cleaned flattened. Works Great. All your work is well done 👍
What a Great project - it came out nice. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing! Have a good'un, Vic
At first I thought you cut the frame because it didn't fit in the tub and my jaw dropped. Looks awesome, works awesome, and is one of a kind...thanks for sharing!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!
I've never come across a "transitional" plane even though I've been looking for one for ages !!
Really!? They are all over the place at most antique stores around here
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman lucky bugga!!
God, I love transitionals so much. I love my late production no. 26 and Sargent made, Zenith branded smoother.
You did a fantastic job!
Excellent!
another great video
At first sight I thought you were going to restore the old planer but no, you completly built a new one from scratch (except the metal parts). Even better ! It is nice to see some fine woodworking coming back on the channel !
Thank you! It was awesome to be able to do this type of work again
Good wood choice
Super stoked for you and the next steps you have ahead... You keep posting, I'll keep watching!
Thank you! I will!
would kill for a workshop as good as yours , so much space and so clean and tidy, really cool workshop
Those chisels are super sharp, Gosh!
Watched this one now a few times and I’ll make a comment *this* time around. Enjoyed this one and always enjoy your content. Admittedly I’m that weird metric that like longer more descriptive videos. I know that those take longer to edit and I know they may not get as many views. Have you considered a second less you edited channel? Like a reference to the video you publish on the main channel. So you’re working on X, but along the way you have a set back, a skill/tool you haven’t covered before, or just your thought process build theory/organization; but because your cameras are up most all the time, you capture what I’ve mentioned in a vlog type manner. I dont know, it’s maybe not thought out well enough, but I figured I’d say so. BTW: Your Roubo builds are the most influential on my bench. Thank you and Semper Fidelis brother!
Greeting from Australia. Love your work and love your channel and give Ütz a pat for me.
Very nice work
Great project. I love your choice of wood. And great to see Utz. Everyone needs a good shop dog.
Dude! I guess I missed the give away. I just watched your video. Nice work.
I’m late due to falling g asleep under a tree. And well someone yelled me name and woke me up. Wish they would have done it 2 years ago.
Very nice! It’s another nice one to add to your collection. I agree with one of the other viewer with you should carve your name or brand. Thanks for the video. I miss it!
Great job.
Very beautiful and works good too. Amazing Video. Thank you.
Well that was fantastic
wow turned out beautiful. congrats on the new old tool. very nice restoring job. cant wait to see more videos. keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. keep making. god bless.
Thank you Jared!
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman not a problem
Really enjoyed the video. I have a similar old plane that has a worn heel that I've been wondering what to do with. I love how the chamfers at the front match up with the curves of the base/frog. Well done. Looks amazing
Wow, just so talented. Beautiful work
A joy to watch. Really well done Chris!
Very cool !
That sapwood pops and looks much better than I thought it would
Greetings from Iosco County! Very nice job
That is beautiful. The pop of the sapwood really hit the spot. Guess I'll be looking for more sapwood these days
Beautiful work Chris & loved seeing that big boy UTZ! The shop is looking terrific! Hope that you and your family are staying safe & doing well! 👍👍😉😉🐶🐶👍👍
Love it!
Beautiful work.Quality workmanship.I got one of those planes.Thank you.
UTZ IS BACK!
I’m an apprentice framing carpenter so I’ve been enjoying your shop builds but there’s something really satisfying about tool makeovers. Because of climate change and high cost of materials, watching carpenters get innovative with up-cycling and restoring materials and tools is really interesting stuff.
