Spectacular. Quarter sawn white oak and black walnut are the most beautiful woods. Thanks for sharing.
The sliding dovetails on the top were a nice addition. It turned out beautifully.
I just came across your channel,” New Guy” lol. I have always loved making thing out of wood. You just can’t beat the smell and feel of the wood in your hands. Please keep the videos coming, I can hardly wait for the next one.
So many woodworkers on youtube try to post every week or more, either to satisfy the demands of their sponsors or just to create a ton of content. However a lot of it useless both as entertainment or education. I really appreciate that you post your content less often but it is always well worth the watch. I hope you can make this model work for you. Beautiful work as always.
Thank you!
$50 p/hr is a very fair rate for the customer, not for you! Your level of experience and attention to detail is worth WAY more than that! A beautiful build. Cheers!
Thank you man! I appreciate that!
I came here to say this. If it was 300 hours of work, the price is too low. His Skill, Expertise, and Time are more valuable than that.
Lmao. I charge more for cuttingboards.
Agree . Ridiculous price . We are getting destroyed by such low fees . We are selling to low for such high quality . Think of all the ones pushing mouses on Silicon Valley … anyhow bravo !
Totally agree to an even higher rate. But to be fair, I think the design should be charged differently, specially if you would make more of those, or sell plans, or whatever monetization you could get from it. It would then make sense to dilute the design cost, and charge for your work, time, expertise and materials
$50/hour from an expert craftsman for handmade furniture is very reasonable. The challenge is finding someone with the budget for a table at that cost. Not many people out there with that. But that rate is certainly reasonable. Beautiful table!
Yes definitely would be a challenge finding a buyer for this. I’d probably have to use my online presence to find someone, locally would be really hard.
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman Besides the expense ($15k) kinda big for my trailer home 😀 But seriously, anyone spending that much likely has big spaces… residential or commercial (think high-end office or condo lobby). They may want a pair and the 2nd build will undoubtedly be much quicker (more profit) than the first. Imagine the speed/profit on the 3-3k produced 😀
Absolutely love watching your work. I bet you could release the same video with no voiceover, just straight ASMR and soothing background music, and it would do really well.
I would to be able to just release videos with no taking like some guys do. The voiceover part is my least favorite on the edit and I would love to not do that haha. Might try just tool sounds next time
True craftsmanship brother. If you advertise the right way to reach the rich you could get what that table's worth. The rich does not care about the price. They want what others can't afford. Awesome build.
No resin, no cnc. An actual wood worker. Keep it up. 💯👌🏾
To say CNC and resin aren't woodworking is pretty toxic, IMO.
Imagine gatekeeping technological progress while commenting on a website processing petabytes of data allowing you to view content from around the world 😂
Love the hand tool work but it’s just a different style all together, not better or worse
@@jetah50 Yes, resin is pretty toxic 😂😂
@ only before it's cured, however, being a toxic person last a lifetime!
It's great to see you making furniture Chris.
Thank you John!
Impeccable craftsmanship! $50 an hour doesn’t do your work justice
That is a fantastic table. I would say your skills are master level, but that just doesn't seem adequate. Super Master level? Epic? The patience you have with chiseling is simply amazing. I hope you consider teaching so you can pass those skills along. Thanks for sharing.
Been missing the content like this while you've been building out the new shop. This was such a pleasure to watch. Thanks as always for the content and inspiration. I'll be finishing up an entertainment center in my own home this month thanks to the lessons I've learned from you and other youtubers after picking up woodworking a few years ago. Can't wait until I can try more fine wood working like this project in the future. Hope you are enjoying the new shop, sure looks like you are!
In my opinion you are worth more than $50 per hour and this piece is worth way more than $15,000.
Hey Daniel, thanks so much for watching and the kind words. Means a lot!
Ditto. Glad to have him back. Missed Utz in this vid I hope he’s still around?
You sir are a master craftsman. A very enjoyable 1/2 hour spent watching you work. Well done
Beautiful piece of work!! Thank you for sharing.
Amazing build, Thank you !
Watching this build is extremely therapeutic!!! Finessing at its most using an awesome arsenal of handtools.. Keep up the great work!!!!
Thank you friend! I appreciate the kind words!
Oh, I'd forgotten we were waiting on this. How wonderful this afternoon to see you pop back up in my feed. Eagerly anticipated, fully appreciated. I love the development from the bookcase a few years ago. Congratulations, Chris. Many aspire to heirloom work, few accomplish it. I'm am quite certain this piece will still be proudly adorning somebody's home in 300 years. A masterpiece. Well done, sir.
Thank you for the kind words and sorry for keeping you waiting so long haha. I really gotta get more videos out haha
Yes you do! 😉
Dude! Two things! $50 per isn’t enough, and I wouldn’t t be able to sell that if I put all that love into it. Fantastic Job!!!
Truly amazing craftsmanship! I cannot begin to tell you how many details I learned watching this video. If I had $15k cash lying around, I would gladly give you that for this table.
Not only did the shelf go through a journey on this project, but your facial hair also journeyed along with it. Beautiful results as always!
Bahahahaha yup
stunning skilled craftsmanship - just working out the concept nevermind the execution of the carpentry both of which are amazing
Thank you! My favorite part is the design process. I love the problem solving that goes into it.
You nailed that one. Beautiful. I also love Japanese Architecture.
The clarity and communication of mind, eye, and touch is astounding. Thank you.
The shop looks amazing!
You've been super busy with the house and the timber frame project and this project is amazing as well!!! Beautiful.
Absolutely brilliant craftsmanship! This is my favorite channel, only hope that one day I could be able to complete a build as beautiful as your finished build.
Beautifully made, Chris! Thank you so much for sharing.
Great job, it's realty a pleasure to see you working. THANKS!
Thank you for sharing. We woodworkers all have that one piece that emphasizes our craft well done. Enjoy watching your videos.
I really love watching you use all those hand tools. I'm personally not a huge fan of the Japanese style, but watching your videos is still super relaxing and enjoyable. All the sawing, and the joinery, and the chisels - so satisfying! Keep up the good work :)
Thank you!
Beyond a doubt, this has been one of the best CZcams videos I have watched. You, Sir, are a Master, and I so much appreciate the care you have put into your craft. You are so comfortable in your narration, and the attention to detail is outstanding.
Wow thank you so much! Really means a lot to me!
Almost all of the comments here are so right. That is so a Beautiful job/work/art/ and handmade, specially all of the fittings and cuts. Without mentioning design. Keep the good great work
and thank you for sharing it with all of us.
Best regards from Germany. 😊
Thank you!
complete genius on design and unmatched craftsmanship.
Incredible work. Watching that top finally slide into home position at the end was just wonderful.
Haha I totally agree. It was so rewarding!
I have followed you since 2018 and absolutely admire and respect your work so much. Thank you for letting folks know the number of hours it takes to create such a gorgeous piece. Keep on creating, man.
Thank you! I truly appreciate people like you that have stuck with me and supported the channel!
Beautiful piece of generational furniture sir, and worth every penny of $15,000.
Stunning. First time I've watched this channel. Stunning.
Wow I can feel the passion through the screen, this kind of stuff just jumps out at you when you run into someone who truly loves what they do. This is awesome, everything else I saw on CZcams I thought was woodworking was nothing quite like this! Great work man!
Hey hey nice to see you again! Truly a work of art. Well done!
Nice to be back. Thanks for watching bud!
Gorgeous! The human CNC machine. Love it.
Amazing work! I love the Japaneses style and old wood work tools. Something about the feel when using old tool.
Wow! Very impressive work. I see this as a full project to be sold (plans, video, etc.). Your editing and commentary are great. I agree with others, $50/hour is too little.
Man oh man, your skills are certainly most impressive. That is a gorgeous piece and I would love to see more content like this. Great job Chris
One word, OUTSTANDING
Wonderfully well-resolved piece and excellent presentation. I like your reasoning around putting in the hard yards in the design/build, keeping the piece, and relying on CZcams to recover costs.
Excellent job! The attention to detail is amazing and the work is truly inspiring!
Thanks bud. I appreciate it!
Absolutely beautiful work. I don't mean to sound covetous at all by saying this following statement; However not only was the build very inspiring, incredible, and an absolute joy to watch, but your tools were making me dream of having such an amazing shop one day. The quality of the chisels, how sharp they were, the massive lumber pile, just really everything about your shop and this project are the dream for many. You are blessed, and I'm very happy to have the opportunity to have the mini apprenticeship of your knowledge.
Thank you for the kind words. I am indeed very blessed
A great pleasure to see this level of work. Thanks.
Well Done!! Nothing is better than a well crafted item made by hand.
I thought I was going a little crazy when I started this video, because I swore I saw you build this already! 😆
Thanks for taking the time to walk us through this amazing build. It was well worth a second video to see the amount of time and effort that went into this work of art!
This is amazing work Sir. I really have enjoyed your content and all the effort you put into everything you do. Like you, I first learned about woodworking from my grandfather, and I have just a couple of his tools in my shop. He's passed on, but I feel his presence when I'm in the shop sometimes. It motivates me to put all I have into everything I build.
I look forward to seeing your future projects. The heart that you put into your work isn't lost on me. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the kind words Jason. Grandpa’s sure do know how to have a profound impact on a young man’s life. Glad you have a couple of his tools to use and charish
Love the old tools; old doesn’t mean bad. Darlington, South Carolina
Mind blown, Chris!!! Mesmerizing video. You have officially entered the level of Jedi master!
Wow Chris, your skill and execution is beyond words. Beautiful design, amazing attention to detail and your video storytelling is spot on. Amazing video.
I was thinking you deserve a pbs program. The episode can be design, then build execution.
Your content is my favorite on CZcams. I wish someday to to do 1/4 of what you can do.
Wow thanks so much! That really means a lot to me!
Insane project mate, looks amazing! Good to see you back, feels like a long time since I've seen content come out from you!
Yea it has been a long time. Too long! Thanks for sticking with me through the drought haha
Standing ovation👏
Encore for the jointer!
Very fine woodworking hands, technique and chosen equipment. Sweet design indeed. Good on you.
That is remarkable. You really made such a nice and timeless piece of furniture. You sure have some incredible skills with all those hand tools 👍
Thank you!
Just stunning. I love Japanese inspired woodcraft. I really want to learn how to do stuff like this. One of my favorite parts of this (and it seems so simple) is the way the vertical supports come through the middle shelf where you've knocked down the edges. Just a cool look. If craftsmanship like this isn't worth $50 per hour, Ikea has won.
It isn't worth $50 dollars per hour. At least not at the 300 hrs quoted.
I used to watch New Yankee Workshop on PBS on Sundays as a kid and this is my NEW New Yankee Workshop. The wood working, sounds of the workshop, the voiceover, the editing, the process, and the finished product 🤌
Thank you so much. That’s a nicer message than I deserve haha
Without doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of furniture and craftsmanship I have ever seen. The sliding dovetail joint was brilliant. Thanks Chris
Thank you!
Yeah dude, I love this build. It's incredible. Thanks for always sharing cool projects big and small.
World-class craftsmanship!
In a world full of cull lumber and epoxy, this video of ultra fine woodworking is absolutely a breath of fresh air. That is absolutely beautiful
Thank you!
Fantastic craftsmanship really enjoyed watching the build. $50 is not enough!
Excellent work, it really feels authentic to the cultural design language of Japan.
Samurai style and Paul Sellers technique. Im glad you've taken the missing youtube woodworking space that the Samurai has vacated.
Love the work
That was absolutely incredible! Found you on FB this morning and had to come find more involved videos. Great work!
Another extremely interesting feature built with your talented hands. Been a fan of yours for years now. You still truly amaze me with your talent drive to try anything. Thank you Sir
Genius design and execution.
Fabulous! Thanks for making the world a better place.
Stunning piece in intricate joinery. Breathtakingly beautiful
Damn, that's some beautiful work! I love my Suizan saws. I think you underestimate people's appreciation of your craftsmanship. Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Remarkible craftsmanship! Thanks for sharing this video!
Stunning, this is the channel I have been looking for.
I have a love/hate feeling when watching your videos. I love the videos and projects along with your commentary.... it’s all inspiring... I hate watching because I realize how crappy my skills still are! 😂🤣😂
Keep up the great work. This project and your skill set are mind blowing!
Lol. Thanks Tom!
50 dollars an hour doesn't seem like a lot tbh man.
Great build! Crazy hand tool skills. Very cool to see someone young with these skills
You are a true artisan. Not many people get to do what they love and make a living at it. I believe this is the first video of yours that I have seen and I will certainly check others out. This will be the first time I have ever shared a video. My brother enjoys wood working so I will share it with him
This is the best build I’ve ever watched. Great work bro
$50hr is very fair rate, i charge $75hr for art. People need to understand that the difference between Any art craft people is based on the years n cost of training, education and experience. Is what guarantees the quality of the end product. most of my craft n art mentors drill this to their students. Its hilarious how many of my clients would rather hire some kid with no actual training in the task for dirt cheap n then come back to me to fix the mess the kid did. They end up paying 2x for what i would had charged them. I been tackling wood work by myself n love seeing pros doing master works. Great video sir.
This was a joy to watch, thank you for an excellent video.
By far the best Craftsman I have ever seen. Project turned out perfect. U dun GOOD, and enjoyed watching every minute of it.
Thanks so much!
a wonderful job, this work looks fantastic, greetings from Germany
This may be the most beautiful table I've ever seen! Outstanding!
Haha thank you!
Just simply gorgeous.
Love this so much. TY for the extended video explaining your process!
this is rare content. keep it going it's so inspiring
Very nice. Beautiful table. It was a pleasure to watch you work.
I've got one of the saws he advertised. It's REALLY nice, and not too expensive (I think I paid like $50 on amazon). Nicest handsaw I've ever had. I'll probably buy more of their saws. I was just recommending them to my brother yesterday... A note, I am not paid/sponsored by that company. My only involvement with them was to buy their saw on Amazon... This was the exact saw: "SUIZAN Japanese Folding Ryoba Pull Saw"
That is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thanks man!
Very beautiful craftsmanship . Thank you so much for sharing .
So cool you were on “A Craftsman’s Legacy”. I love that guys channel. Stellar work brother.
we have these saws! they've changed my life ❤️🤗
What a stunning piece of furniture, a showcase of your skills.
$50 an hour is a hot deal for anyone getting this type of craftsmanship!!!
The difference between doing this kind of a project as I would with electric tools and by hand as you did it is night and day. My work and yours from across a room may look the same but up close yours has so much life and mine is just cold. I am going to have to break out my chisels and sharpening stones and make something for my family.
Nice work!
As a son of a high school shop teacher and after ~45 yrs of master carpenter that's nice wk, {I love my Stanley England plane too it's a very nice tool} , beautiful work done well perfect is more. . . . .
Keep on doing the stuff
David
Thank you. I appreciate that very much!
There is something peaceful about watching you build using all hand tools. Your working is amazing.
Excellent workmanship!
Simply stunning, beautiful craftsmanship!!!
WOW ! Thanks for all your time and effort.
