I think the best part of this show is they let y'all put your act on your own CZcams page! I'd never think to look it up otherwise. Penn and Teller are helping magicians everywhere with this!
I was just thinking the same thing before I went to the comment section!
I'm pretty sure they don't belive in intelectual property....
I also appreciate this but have never seen anyone comment it. Thanks!
Nicely done.
Any reality show where you have been a contestant gives you the right to use the video where you were involved.
4:12 the old "SWITCH-A-ROO" behind the table
That painting must have even more X-Ray vision power than you anticipated since it allowed them to see right through the trick.
Oh. Snap.
Lol
This Show always makes me feel like a kid, because I am fooled everytime.
Everytime! 😂
Amen, brother..
Ive never been fooled even once... kinda disappointed... i always know its magic every single time!
@@corywalker3425 No its not!
You're jusst stupid
I always appreciate how Penn & Teller let you know how much they liked a trick at the onset, before they do the part of the show where they bust the magician. It shows that even when they know how its done, they appreciate the work and thought put into it.
Agreed! Can't get classier than P&T.
Really great trick.
One thing though. She shouldn't be given the option to trade unless she's looking through the painting or it contradicts the narrative. Unless it's supposed to have tranferred x ray vision to her.
If she said she did want to trade he would have held the painting back over her eyes to confirm I'm sure.
Regardless her simple presence in the trick ruins it for me because for 1 how can you "see through envelopes" and not be shocked by it, and for 2 if you actually can't see through the envelopes and are guessing why aren't you acting confused or saying you can't see through?
@@ThatBugBehindYou I think he'd just say to try really hard and if an audience member is being really stubborn then he could always switch and say that they also lacked the gift.
@@ThatBugBehindYou the instruction he gives is something like "what color is being projected to your mind?" Or something like that. So people are not seeing through the envelope and are just guessing colors. The trick is how he switches or at least always present a correct color inside the envelope
The entire idea of trading the envelopes at any point during the routine kinda ruins it for me. If it was truly supposed to be X-ray vision, why would she not be sure about which color she chose previously?
@@BLZPHR That's what I was thinking. Reading your reply though, I just realised why he did it - to demonstrate to Penn and Teller that he gave her a totally free choice. I wonder if he does it normally.
I just want to say, this performance was just really enjoyable to watch. Whole presence with almost victorian gentleman style items and cloth. Love it.
Big thanks, Alexander! I work hard to make everything have a cohesive look, so that means a lot.
@@PeterWood The nice touch about your appearance and routine is, that it is entertaining even if the spectator knew, how the trick is done.
We don’t need Penn to explain it. It’s so obvious: the painting chose the envelopes!
@Beau Aidan when Allyson put her eyes through the painting she gained x ray vision
When a magician hides his hands behind a table or anything, it’s an obvious cue that he’s doing a swap of sorts.
I thought the same thing
Normally, yes. But on Fool Us the magicians often do that as misdirection to put Penn & Teller down the wrong path. Remember, P&T only get one guess, several people have won, NOT by doing a trick that they can't figure out but by providing them with clues that make them think it is more likely to be done by one way than a second one that they would have said. It is actually the only thing I don't like about the show is when they win like that. I'm genuinely more entertained when P&T have no idea how they do it and not by the magician winning on a technicality.
Yeah and he was back there for a while grabbing the red envelope it wasn't that slick
@@ISOCZAR yeah but that only explains the red one right?
@@joeskis yeah
When he went for the eyes, his right hand went behind the platform for waaaaay too long.
oke, one color explained...
The envelopes all have green inside. So no matter how they are placed, the green one will always be right. The red one was swapped under the table. The ones that Peter opens himself are slight of hand. He doesn't really take something out of the envelopes, he is already holding the right cloth inside his hand before opening. Those he gets previously. I think: one from the table and one at 5:17. One hand will simultaneously hold the envelope and the extra cloth. The extra cloth is also packaged tight, so that he can make the illusion of it coming out of the envelope.
@@sanderschat lol I'm not a magician and there's not one single move I didn't caught him doing, you can even see him placing his hands in his pocket, the right one sitting there for quite a while, and then just the obvious palming and covering his hand the whole time after that. Yeah I couldn't do it, it requires years of practise, but its a pretty easy trick and if I can spot all the trades he did, any magician can see how the trick is done fairly easy.
@@vinhix Not palming, he's using thumb tips. You notice each time he tears open the envelope he jams his right thumb inside, then he squeezes the outside of the envelope to take off the thumb tip and then reaches in to take out the scarf. He's really good at hiding the thumb tip during his movements but there's a few spots that if you pause you can see it. That's also why Penn gave the code word "tip of our tongue" he's referencing a thumb tip.
@@JIKitty It’s actually sleight of hand, not slight of hand. My mission in life is to teach the world the proper spelling of this word, one CZcams commenter at a time.
You could see him exchange the first envelope when he went to show everyone the eyes of Sir Willoby
Oh yeah, I wasn't even looking for it but his awkward posture and positioning when leaning down to get them immediately drew my attention to it.
Exactly
Yeah unfortunately it was pretty obvious. My eyes immediately went to him pulling out the envelope from the table. Don't know if it was camera angle, nerves, maybe the lighting so the eyes didn't draw attention, or something else.
saw it to :P
That's a red herring.
I love how Penn and Teller let the guy know that they understand how he did it without exposing the way he did it.
They do this for every trick, Penn is amazing at explaining the trick in code
Penn is really genius
Yes they've been doing it for how long, seven years already? :)
@@abhinavbrs3882
There's been several he didn't take talk in code.
I mean if they wanted to they could just write down exactly how they think he did it and let the magician read it, then they wouldn't need to think of code. But I guess that would not be as fun for the audience.
Awesome trick. Great presentation.
4:14 Swap to red for Alyson
4:32 Installation of the magic thumb tip.
4:58 Installation of the magic thumb tip.
7:35 Showing they know the thumb tip trick.
7:38 Magician acknowledging the message.
Just about every magic set comes with a fake thumb tip, but little kids rarely know how to use them effectively. Those kids should watch this video! That seemingly silly fake thumb tip can really blow people's minds if used like this.
Wow, I would've never guessed a thumb tip, and it's so simple once you realize that
He forces Red on her from the back of the case, then thumbs yellow with his left hand.
For the second stage he reaches into his right pocket to thumb blue ( he would have gone to his left pocket for green).
Still a WONDERFUL trick in the hands of a Master.
any time a magician put his hands in his pockets one has to wonder why.
@@blueapple9077 To me, MAGIC is like Professional Wrestling. I know the moves, but it's a pleasure to watch the Masters play their craft.
if you pause in the right moment at 4:38 - 4:39 and 5:30 his right hand thumb seems unnaturally too long
its always nice when the magician allows the participant to open/examine the reveals.
4:14 he switches envelopes
murdermouth killingyou yes with the blue .... well done mate ,you got good eyes
I saw the same thing as well as loading two different thumb tips in case she switched
so they were all green to begin with
@@grelgen there are 6 envelopes at play in this trick.
4 with both yellow and blue inside.
1 with only red (kept in the box)
1 with only green (maybe kept in pocket or box)
At 03:10 he swaps one of the envelopes for one with green inside.
When he hands the fists envelope to Alison, we all see the swap at 04:12.
As mentioned above, the envelopes that he opens have 2 colors inside. He just pulls the corresponding color.
To summarize, the envelopes she opened were forced. And the ones he opened had multiple colors inside.
@@overwatchaid646 if they're all green:
1. he clearly puts the first envelope in the box and swaps it for red
2. he switches the second one for a yellow on his person
3. he directly hands her the green one, point to point it never leaves view
4. he switches the fourth for blue on his person
on his person: thumb tab or some other mini pocket on his hand. he has control over what he pulls out of his own envelope. you can clearly see him push something into the blue one.
Turns out it was just a window. That was a very well made joke! Honestly
Thank you! Appreciate it :-)
Looking at 4:18 I can truly swear that Teller is Allison's father. Give it a try and see for yourself
I thought that at around :10! Oh and she's a 10!

Great comment : )
It doesn't matter if they figured it out. The performance was awesome. It's really cool that this is based on an old method and given in an enjoyable way.
This is the correct way to title a Penn and Teller video. No fucking spoilers, just a description of the video and you get to find out if they're fooled or not.

Very interesting premise and script, Peter! Your originality and method are appreciated. Thanks for the entertainment!
** Spoiler Alert** (Not for the faint hearted- I mean you, Serena)
What I hope Penn would say: All envelopes in beginning had green. 1st one was an obvious change to red before handing over to Alison. Then green handed to Alison. Other 2 envelopes in control with magician. Puts hands in pockets/under table both times, saves up yellow and blue cloth in fake thumb/fingers etc. And that’s the trick.
What Penn actually says: Subtle.. Sherlock Homes...mystery..
Me: huh?
There's gotta be a way to do it without the obvious switch and the guest holds all the envelopes. The magician hands the envelops in a particular direction. "hold right here. Now tear the bottom off with your other hand." the orientation of the envelops determines what pocket gets opened and it's contents spilt.
No sir..she could actually see the inside...but that's not magic..but work of reflection and other physics laws..hence a failure.
I thought the same thing but I'm not quite sure about the second switch. Also Alyson was very confident so I think he told her to just be confident

Switched the red one while grabbing for the eyes, then got lucky
I saw that too x
I don't think getting lucky is part of magic, let's be honest
Lol
Palm a blue kerchief in your hand, hide the green one while opening it.
And/or a special way of opening the paper to make the extra kerchief not fall out.
Those are my guesses after watching just once, no pausing.
I mean, if the red one was wrong, then he should have also swapped a different one where the actual red was
I really enjoyed watching this. For me the skill lies with both the narrative and the illusion. Great magic.
Appreciate the kind words, Greg. Many thanks!
His “hint” (at -00:59) that Penn & Teller knew the trick was when he told him “it’s right on the tip of our tongue”. You can see him smile like “You got me”.
Look at Penn's hand when he says that line for an even bigger hint...
So many GREAT magicians like yourself, standing out on CZcams is hard. I love this content, thank you for sharing, I hope you grow in popularity and crack the YT algorithm.
Wow, thank you so much! Being on the show was an honor, and having folks enjoy it on YT is icing on the cake. Cheers!
Magic is so hard. You have to be funny, charming, oblivious, and clever all at the same time, while you produce a trick that throws the audience off guard.
My mind is blown. And it always gets into my head when a magician says "are you sure you don't want to swap?". My mind is like "I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE! AAAAHHHH!"
I would want to pull a coin out of my pocket and flip it.

Fool Us is one of the best shows on TV! Every trick makes me do research on it. Especially helpful is the magic code Penn & Teller always use to give us hints about them. I love Alyson Hannigan. She is adorable; I was a big Buffy fan from long ago. Those yellow shoes are hot!

It's almost impossible to spoil the magic, for me... It's even more impressive to see the skill and cleverness that goes into the actual trick...
I mean if you could teleport objects from hand to hand for real, that would be amazing, but I wouldn't be amazed if you could do magic tricks with it...
I enjoy the audience participation too, but I'm perplexed by this trick. Could it have worked with any random member of the audience or was Alyson "in on it" in some way? I can't work out what it is that she "saw" that made her choose particular colours... but perhaps it's best to not know. I'll have to watch this a couple more times, because I'm a bit mystified by what actually happened. Good trick!
@@AutPen38 I think the rules of the show forbid stooges so Alyson should never be in on it.
Great act!
Every envelop has green in it. Before he hands her the "red" envelop, he switches it under the table. For yellow and blue, he's palming a scrunched up piece of fabric (which he loaded into his hands out of his pockets when he stuck his hands into his pockets while talking). When he tears his envelops open, he leaves the wadded up green inside the envelops and displays the palmed appropriate colors.
When does he load the yellow cloth into his hands
@@Ahmed-vs1ui It is really easy to palm the scrunched up yellow. He is either getting it from behind the little plaque with the eyes on it, or he's pulling it into his hands when he sticks his right thumb underneath the table at approximate 4:35.
He should've hide the red envelope behind the eyes instead of reaching under the table for so long. Tat may have been misdirection, but still he never shows the back of the eyes and it would have been a clean and easy swap.
Not palming, he's using thumb tips.
@@Fatvod This is the corerct answer. at 5:06 he add the tip in his pocket, and at 5:09 for a few frame you can see the thumb is almost as long as the other finder when he raise his hand, showing the tip,

@@user-ds6jv5jf5o agree
For the final two, I think he's using false thumbs and stuffing them in the envelope when it opens them. Basically, all envelops have green. Red is swapped behind the briefcase. Yellow and Blue are each pulled from his pocket at different times using false thumbs. Notice how much longer than Alyson he takes to open the final envelope.

4:14 - as he goes to grab the eyes, he switches the envelope to one that contains the red cloth
Agreed
That one felt pretty obvious, but I'm not sure how he did the other three tbh
He could of had ones with multiple colors in there and others that did not why also playing mind games with her that could explain the switch of the red maybe it was a multi color one
Possibly, but that doesn’t explain anything if we can’t see him switching at least one more - oh, wait: He only ever needs to switch one: Alyson only opens two. Say they’re both yellow. He switches the appropriate one of hers to red. The other two, he opens himself. They contain nothing, but he can easily make it seem like his cloths are pulled from the envelopes instead of his palming hand...

4:15 is so obvious.
It could be a fake move. Magicians have been known to do false movements to throw Penn and Teller off. I think this is the case for this move since it was so obvious, and he didn't have to reach down for the other packets.
@@lostgenius true
@@lostgenius wow I didn’t even think about that, pretty smart
I think the envelopes had only 2 colors in them. Allyson didn't get a free pick on the envelopes. This then leaves slight of hand very possible for switching the other two, if necessary.
Alice may havebon placed 1 rag corectly and he pllulled the others to match while swaping the red
These color matching routines always fool me. Keep it up! :)
As a fan of your work, Mahdi, that means a lot. Many thanks!
Good Job Peter, keep up the great work. And I love your parents for the name.
That makes two of us! (just not when I was in middle school ...)
Two things :-
1. He took the red envelope from behind the table
2. He made the choices who will tear which envelope...quite possible that the envelope he tore had multiple clothes in it
I don't think that would work. I think the envelopes all have green inside. So no matter how they are placed, the green one will always be right. The red one was swapped under the table. The ones that Peter opens himself are slight of hand. He doesn't really take something out of the envelopes, he is already holding the right cloth inside his hand before opening. The extra cloth is also packaged tight, so that he can make the illusion of it coming out of the envelope.
All green. Thumb tips for yellow and blue...red switched out at 4:15.
Great original routine I did notice a few things that confirm Penns statement. There was a lot of camera misdirection focusing on Alice when the magician would not want the audience to see but they wouldn't be catching it as they're not trained to see what is actually happening. Still very entertaining and great story line
Love magic like this
Really enjoyed your magic trick. Great job. You fooled me. -Tom
The first thing that immediately came to mind when you held up the eye panel to compare them to her’s you were switching out a packet to give her the right color. Then I think you intentionally chose which packet to let her open and which one you would open so you could force the right colors. Just a hunch though.
4:13 - 4:17 there's a swap of envelopes from the box underneath the stands. As for the other 2 envelopes , i believe it's a force, so he did not need to swap them out. Perhaps the blue envelope was already loaded with all the colors, and Peter just had to pull out the correct one.
Yup. That’s what even I caught/
It’s even more simple. Remember, he chooses the order in which the envelopes are revealed, and he’s responsible for revealing two of them. That should give you an idea. 👍
Yeah there's definitely a swap there. Never trust a magician when his hands go behind the table lol
I think all of them have green in them, he swaps one for a red and gives to Allison, thumbs a yellow, clearly hands Allison an untampered and thumbs a blue.
