- Never-before-seen performance!
"Wicked, wicked difficult with two hands, you're doing it with one...I can't even get my mind around it." - Penn Jillette
"You could tell how much I loved it. Teller also loved it." - Penn Jillette
I WONDER WHY is a tribute to his late father, Dale Canfield, and the Maestro René Lavand. This inspiring close-up sleight of hand card magic was performed for the first time on the show.
Performed up close for Alyson Hannigan and Penn.

Holy crap that intro video is so legit.
Is that real or “Hollywood”?
It's real. Having my grandmother give me my dad's magic box is one of the most surreal moments of my life. She took me to her basement and pulled it from the top shelf of a closet. She had kept it with her all those years until that moment. I didn't know it even existed. I never once brought this up during the whole Fool Us production, but her last words were, 'There is magic in the world.' I talk about it on @chriscanfieldmagic (instagram/tik)
@@chriscanfieldmagic Wow !!
@@chriscanfieldmagic more chills just reading that. Bless you brother
@@chriscanfieldmagic awesome man.
@@chriscanfieldmagic 🎈🎈👌👌👏👏👏👏👏👏💕💕
One thing I love about this show is that you don’t need to fool them to put on an amazing show and get your recognition for it
If all life was that way .....life would be perfect but this is Hell 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥full of 💩
Penn has talked about it on his podcast, how the point of the show isn’t to actually fool them. That’s just the hook to sell it to TV. The real point is just to give a platform to magicians who would never get that large an audience.
There have been acts on the show who did tricks that Penn and/or Teller literally taught to them. It isn’t about fooling anyone. It’s about putting on a great show.
@@The_Jantofyes. But at the same time, they have so much history and respect for the art form, they love being fooled as much as they love not being fooled yet enjoying the performance.
I just love watching the joy on their faces when they come across one that legit fools them. They’ve seen just about everything, and get such a kick out of being fooled.
I love that about this show. They challenge others but in the most respectful way
I agree!
This performance is beautiful, because even if you can guess that the cards are being manipulated as they're dropped, there is still a lot of room for being impressed by the technique in which the cards are manipulated, and even if you figured out exactly how the cards are being manipulated (single-handedly, no less), you will still be impressed by the story being laid out by that performance and how poetic it is!
A very high compliment. Thank you!
Yes I can easily see the cards are manipulated every time he layed down cards.
Huge fan of Rene Lavand. He passed and I thought the world of 1 handed magicians was gone.
But nope, you’ve inspired me.
Can you do your version of oil and water? I’d love to see it.
Me sumo a la petición del agua y aceite!

Nothing short of inspiring. Your father was one hell of a teacher and an even finer parent.
Also, with respect, you are a worthy successor to the great Rene Lavand.
Thank you! And very humbling.
That was amazing, René Lavand is one of my favourite magicians, I really admire him and I love that you took your own work and crossed it with his ideas also
Thank you! I owe a huge debt to him for sure.
@@lolosatan9954 found the 4 in 3 seconds
That was probably the most random and confusing 'code' talk that I've heard from Penn
It really was. He had to dig a bit to find a way to drop the words. He talks about "Deal" and "Second Deal"
I love trying to de-code his code talk
OMG the reaction look on Allison's face was priceless. 😅
The 2nd dealing I got. Was the felons under 15 a thing or just a way to insert "second deal" into that.
@@Sam_on_CZcams wouldn't want to spoil the trick.
Doing that Trick one handed deserves à bigger trophy on its own
Thank you!! Being on the show is it's own honor too.
Pure genius. What dedication! You wouldn't fool a magician with those tricks. But you will damn sure impress them all with that performance.
Thanks for your kind words.
Rene Lavand was the only one handed card guy I knew until know. Instant fan!!!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Where's the LOVE BUTTON! AMAZING! So proud is the TraitWare Team!
That was the best slight of hand I've seen in a long time
Thank you so much! Appreciate you watching!
must have been terrifying having penn staring right at the cards during the key moments at 4:17 and 4:40, but you did it so smooth it took me a few rewatches before i remembered the two times i had five friends over when i was twelve :)
Haha! Thanks for watching!
As someone who loves magic and has four fingers on each hand, I never thought I would be able to do up close magic. I have very tiny hands. But you proved me wrong! I would love to see you perform live one day!!
And I would love to see you perform as well!
Yeah, the up close part got me too. Up close magic is always gutsy. But to invite Penn to inspect your trueck up close takes real brass ones. Well done, my friend!
@@DGTubbs thanks! I love having people up close.
People like you make magic real. I cant imagine how much work you put in your magic.
Thank you! It does take a lot of work to get to the point where you don’t have to think about it and it starts to flow. I try to think long term. Getting a little better every day.
Outstanding!
I'm argentinian, I've been lucky enough to watch René Lavand's act in person, I can tell you I was sitting at the edge of my seat, couldn't believe my eyes. I loved your take on this and I'm glad there're magicians out there inspiring the younger generations as René did. Thank you! And... 'It can't be done any slower'.
An extremely gracious comment. I’m doing what I can to honor him for his inspiration.
The magic was fantastic, but the delivery and story with it was beyond exceptional!
Thank you! I knew I wanted to create a bit of a love story with magic. Glad you enjoyed it.
You didn’t fool Penn & Teller, but you definitely fooled me. That was awesome!!!!!
Thank you!!
"Second Deal" one-handed! Wow!
You are Literally INCREDIBLE!
Taking the term "sleight of hand" to a whole new level. In many ways.
Ha! Thanks for that.
This was excellent and very inspirational. You have amazing card control and I really enjoyed your charismatic performance. Thank you for sharing your Magic with me and the rest of the audience all over the world. I am a complete beginner to the art of Magic, and slight of hand, and your routine was a brand new experience for me. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more of your performances online.
Thank you! It really is an honor to share this magic and I'm glad it helped inspire you.
That was beyond amazing. I was truly mesmerised by your kindness and humble nature. The trick left me speechless. Congratulations on a fantastic performance. I really wish you fooled them.
I appreciate the heartfelt comment!
This is Rene Lavand on it's finest, this guy is clearly way younger than Rene Lavand (RIP), Rene Lavand was right handed but he lost his right hand on an accident when he was about 9 years old but didn't let that stop him and become an awesome card magician and he has this exact effect (well, without the twist Chris put on this presentation), but basically it's the same effect.
No need to do a reaveal, there are dvds of Rene Lavand explaining how his tricks work in full detail.
Thank you so much. I am forever indebted to the maestro René.
Wonderful Chris.
Thanks for sharing your Awesome Magic with us. 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful soul, amazing magician.
Thank you for your kind words!
Absolutely astounding performance, such control. I never knew René Lavand was one handed, he had a translator when I watched him on TV growing up and in clips more recently just the highlights from those old recordings, just lost in the wonder and amazement of how he made my own eyes lie to me. But definitely recognized the inspiration for your routine with colors being separate and coming together again in your narrative. It can't be done any slower haha
Thanks for your kind words! I owe a huge debt of gratitude to René.
What an amazing performance. You brought me down to tears. Your card technique is impeccable.
Thank you so much. I tried to put my deep love of magic into this. Glad you were able to feel that.
Amazing!!! Great performance and great magic!!!
Thank you!!
I lost my dad recently and I really feel moved by your story.
So sorry to hear that. Hope there are ways you can carry on what you shared.
Well done, Chris. You're an inspiration. I know your Dad is looking on with great pride!
Thank you! I appreciate that.
What an amazing performance thank you so much for that I loved every second of it❤😮❤

Loved it! Amazing performance Chris!
Thank you!!!!
Your grace, style and showmanship are a real tribute to your father, and both a pleasure and inspiration to us.
It’s an honor to be able to share my deep love of magic. Thanks for your kind words!

I LOVE the totally amazed look that Alyson always gets while she watches!
Yes! It was so great having her up there because she was simply enjoying the moment without having to think about anything else.
Such a well practiced and performed to such a high standard that few magicians will achieve.A real genuine pleasure to watch thank you for your inspiring contribution to the world of magicians
Thank you. And it’s my pleasure to share whatever I can to help move the art of magic forward.
You're incredibly inspiring, Chris. Thank you for that incredible performance.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely phenomenal
Thanks! I had so much fun putting this together for them.
I don’t know nothing about magic but I do know inspiration when I see it, not letting an obstacle get in your way and achieving your goal of entertaining people with magic.
I haven’t got a clue how it was done and a great personal story to go with the routine.
Well done.
Appreciate that! You're right, we can get past those obstacles.
Thanks Chris - was awesome watching your performance and craft. Your smile and positive is so tremendously infectious (got me beaming on a Monday morning prior to work)! 😊
Thanks! That's great to hear. Thankful it made your day brighter.

Just fabulous card skills.
Thank you!!
Great trick Chris, I'm completely fooled by this... More please...
Thanks! More coming. Maybe something without cards?
Marvelous, marvelous act. The gifts our fathers leave us never stop inspiring us
How very true. Thanks for watching!
Wow this is dope! This is insane the level of skills required to make this so deceptive. I knew how this can be done with 2 hands but would never thought it can be done with just one. Amazing
Glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the compliments.
Wow, not only is he a great magician, he seems like a great person!
Why thank you! I try!
I love this show so much! Wether Penn & Teller are fooled or not, it always feels like a win in the end. Great performance
Thanks! Everyone behind the scenes works very hard to make sure the performers have a great performance.
awesome, it really shows i think! Have a good day
Every day is magic if you only pay attention.
Chris, you renew my sense that anything the mind can conceive the body can achieve.
I'm a young 62.
62 is the new 40.
I'm cognizant of the fact that I'm a very blessed man that I can walk up from my house to the mall or to the grocery store at a decently fast clip with absolutely zero pain. So many I see aren't able to do anything ambulatory without varying degrees of pain some are in pain just sitting there doing nothing. At any rate you are a fantastic magician and thanks for a truly entertaining mesmerizing presentation.
Yes! This is so great to hear. Many limitations are only in our minds. Thanks for watching and glad it renewed something in you!
See…when life deals you a shitty hand…it’s not the cards you’re dealt but how you play the game. 💪
Perspective is a powerful thing. Thanks for watching!
He’s amazing
What a beautiful magic trick and incredible performance, I loved this :)
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
This was a beautiful routine, straightforward, clean, fun and fooling❣️♠️♣️♦️ Amazing performance, glad to see I’m not the only one who gets nervous.
Don’t even know how you could pull that off on TV and in front of P&T and that huge audience….and under camera scrutiny!
Thank you! At that point it was more adrenaline from excitement than nerves. But there were nerves for sure. So many things in this routine can go wrong at any moment. Almost no room for error. Maybe someday I’ll break it all down. But it was like walking a tightrope at 100mph.
Incredible. I loved it.
Thank you!
Amazing
One of my favorites.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
God bless you Chris.
Thank you!
You did an amazing job. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
Extremely impressive!

Wow!
Man really cool trick. Hope you come back with another one!
I'd love to! We'll see! Thank for watching!
Impressive and inspiring!
Thanks for watching!
I followed the trick, and thought I had figured you out.
Right up until the finale. Then all my theories fell apart.
Awesomely done!
I hope to see more of your magic.
Thank you! I hope to bring more magic soon.
Thank you Sir for your excellent magic but for me personally I thank you for helping me to believe that everything for my Mum and myself will be alright. You have pure magic and love in your heart 🙏❤️🕯️
Thank you so much. Thankful to be able to share this magic and even better when it can help someone else. Hoping the best for you both.
My grandpa lost his arm when he was only about 10 years old after breaking it and having it go gangrenous due to a too tight cast. He has never let it get him down, he was a coal miner and foreman for 30 years, ran his own businesses, shoots shotguns and reloads his own shells, and has raised a loving family and takes care of his wife my grandma. He and you just go to show that when a door is locked, you just have to find a window. Keep trying, keep working hard, and keep being an inspiration to all of us. Love you and your story. Your father would be/is proud of you.
Thanks for sharing the story about your grandpa! Limitations are often only in our minds.
Nice! Great job, Chris!!!
Thanks Ron!!
That was absolutely amazing! Inspirational!
Thank you! Thankful I can share this magic and inspire others!
That was amazing
He can do things single handedly.
All things! Haha! Thanks for watching!
the magic was cool but I just really enjoy his stage presence while doing the tricks. very fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Awesome. Salute.
Thanks!!
UNbelievably GOOD! Thanks for the Magic, Chris! 🪄
And thank you for watching!
Magic with one hand!? Impressive beyond all belief.
