  • Russian state media has claimed that Russia has never been the aggressor or attacked any other nation in their history. Russia also wants to re-wind the clock and restore their historical borders and spheres influence from the 1980s. Lucky for all of us Russia's military is corrupt and incompetent.

      I don't think the Russian federation will exist in 2 years. I think it will have been broken up. They will lose their security council seat and I think a compromise will be that the seat goes to India given the size of their country and their geographical representation in Asia.

    I am also disgusted whenever I see Western observers and articles talk of peace talks as if the Ukrainians should be willing to give up territory after everything that has happenend and considering who Putin is. Ukraine's stance is the same stance the USA would take and any country in the West - not one inch to the invaders.

    By invading Poland with Germany, I always consider Russia to have helped starting WW2. That Germany later attacked them and a lot of people died... they claim they fought and won from the Nazis. But in fact they enabled them in the first place.

      It genuinely scares me that a US president recently called free US media 'enemies of the people' and that so many people cheered this. Sure the US media has conflicts of interest but that kind of language should never be allowed to stand, seems like Kremlin methods are gaining supporters.

    There was already a Soviet invasion in the 1920s which was defeated by the Polish near to Warsaw. A quite unknown war.

      If Poland had not stopped the Soviet army, they would have continued thru at least Germany. Germany was in post war disarray with lots of Communist party sympathizers or useful idiots.

      And every criminal killed is money saved for Russia. In the uk it costs £60k in forst year and £40k each year after to house a criminal. I imagine the Russians have a similar industry set up.

Russia is using the cruelest and most stupid means of "purifying" their country but at the same time this does mean that every Ukrainian life is worth many times more than that of a Russian soldier. (In terms of contribution to the nation and combat effectiveness, not actual, human value cause boy is that a slippery slope I don't want to go down on.

      @@DJWESG1 you're right. I think the cost of a prisoner in Russia is way less a year than those in the UK. Even if you adjust for real cost. I'm not from the UK but from the Netherlands buy I assume the situation here is the same as in the UK. The prisoners here have a good living standard. I don't think that's the case for Russian prisoners.

      @@bigbadlara5304 from a survey i found from 2012 the Netherlands spend 202€ a day per prisoner being the third most expensive in Europe with Sweden being on top with 620€ a day. In comparison Bulgaria is spending an astoundingly massive.... 3€. I can't imagine Russia paying that much more so while obviously you can't disregard it you really shouldn't overestimate the amount.

      @@dtly50 Oh sure, sending shitty people to the frontlines instead of educated people makes sense on paper, but there's the very, very, very, VERY big issue of morale, training, smarts and a whoooole lot of other things including psychology that makes recruited soldiers who have no want or reason to fight, a bad idea in general.
      Oh, and don't forget the thousands and thousands of warcrimes, too. That's never good, and also just causes more problems.

    This war changed my life. I started doing the least I can do, like following international affairs, learning history, signing up for monthly supporter of some humanitarian aid organization, supporting some 🇺🇦 units on the frontline. I will follow my path as long as I live, bc I owe my ordinary life to amazing young people like Vlada.

One of them lives here in Bratislava already 4 years...They fled to Slovakia because some of their family was already here... Just to say - Ukrainians belong to Europe, not to the Russian regime.       Yeah, my family's lands are still in Russia. 🙃 If Russia never attacked anyone, how come my grandparents had to flee with their families, some them/their family members fought in a war agai them, and they could never return to their homes because those areas are now recognised as Russia?       Russia has never felt threatened nor has it been threatened, by anyone since WW2, and that was brought about by Stalin’s double dealing with Hitler. In any case why would anyone want to threaten Russia, it’s an icebound wasteland about a tenth as productive as the US, or Europe, for that matter.
      To invade and occupy Russia would be a liability that it would be self-inflicted madness to indulge in?

    This courageous young medical professional knew the risks she would be facing, the same risks her fellow countrymen and women faced on the front line!
    She went to where she could do good, where her expertise could help to save the lives and limbs of her fellow Defenders.
    Whilst she would have hoped to live to see the end of the ruSSian occupation and war, she knew that there was every chance that she would not!
    Regrettably, this has come about, and she has been killed by the shelling of her position, devastating her family, friends and colleagues.
    Like the other courageous Defenders that have been killed protecting their country, she will not be forgotten, and the story of her volunteering will inspire others.
