  • The logistics supply lines of Ukraine has finally caught up to deliver sufficient quantities of Western supplied artillery to halt Russian advances for the last week. The United States is debating changing their policy on preventing the use of their weapons on Russian territory in response to Russia's new invasion of Kharkiv. Russia claims new territory for itself in the Gulf of Finland indicating Putin's ambition for future wars with more of its neighbors.

Man chose this place not god. And if you are a good and a nice boy, your next life will be even more challenging. • @viggoholmsen7203
      @viggoholmsen7203 Před 27 dny

      I totally agree.
      But isn't it more a question of why and when the weapons should be allowed to be used rather than where.
      The restrictions were put in place as one element in the overall policy of escalation management which might have been appropriate in the early stages of the invasion (forgetting that the war started in 2014 and not 2022), when the objective seemed to be limited to overthrowing the government and replacing it with something more amenable to Russian interests.
      As it morphed into an all-out war of conquest, the eradication of Ukraine as a sovereign nation and the appropriation of all Ukrainian territory under the Muscovy regime, the rules of engagement should have been amended to reflect the new realities of the situation.
      The weapons have been provided for Ukraine to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
      Territorial integrity extends beyond mere national borders. It comprises everything within those borders as well - citizens, industry, infrastructure, natural habitat and resources.
      Raining missiles, rockets, bombs, artillery shells on Ukraine from outside its borders IS a clear violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
      In that sense, targeting launch pads, staging grounds and troop concentrations during or in advance of such assaults is a DEFENSIVE measure, even if they are located outside of Ukraine's borders.
      If an assailant breaks down the door to your apartment, steps inside and opens fire, you would be legally allowed to respond in kind.
      But if the same assailant did not step inside, but let go barrages of lead into the apartment from outside, shouldn't you then be allowed to defend yourself against the attack?
      On other channels, I have debated the issue by making the distinction between ongoing attacks and imminent threats (defensive) and preemptive strikes (offensive).
      The US doesn't have to totally abandon the restrictions they have put in place if they recognize that they do not apply under conditions of direct attack or imminent threat.
      Ukraine would then be free to use provided weapons defensively, but not offensively.

    Popov is NOT friends with Shoigu. This was the guy who was relieved last year for telling the truth about lack of rotation of Russian forces and the utter inferiority of Russian counter battery fire at a meeting that included Gerasimov. They tried to arrest him then, but his unit ( a field army), apparently loved him and threatened to mutiny and go free him themselves. Since this was about a month after the Wagner mutiny, the Russian govt caved, released him, and reassigned him to Syria. Now, with 8 months with 10 months worth of attrition to his old army and a general purge of the Russian armed forces underway, it was apparently safe to finally re-arrest him. He's not a nice guy, but he's never been a crony of Shoigu and ironically, he may actually have been one of Russia's few noncorrupt generals. Though of course, railroading one of your few relatively honest and popular generals on totally made up charges probably isn't a good way to win a war...
