Garcia's only problem is finding her form. If consistent, she can pose serious trouble to Swiatek, Rybakina, and Sabalenka's dominance. 😮
absolutely, I feel she has underachieved but definitely has the game to trouble the top 4
You can say that about most players. They play well have a good run, and maybe win the tournament, then you don't hear about them for the rest of the year.
@@ghostrider2900 Yeah but Caroline even more so. She's been 4th for a reason. Her best playstyle is very aggressive and either she's alright in her head and playing at a level only about 2-3 players can handle, or she'll lose to anybody.
Garcia's game is so timing dependent that if she's off by even a hair, everything kind of collapses around her. She would be a top 10 mainstay if she had a halfway decent return, but she relies too much on the aggressive court positioning that burns her more often than not. When her timing is on and she's confident, you get runs like she had in 2017 and 2022; when her timing is off, she can lose to anyone.
@@Shilo1987 Agree mostly but, I don't think she's too reliant on anything because she 30 and previous attempts at pacing a little more, making her game less risky and other things hasn't really worked. At that point I think she's better off trying to find that moment where she's feeling great and getting as many wins as possible.
Garcia can beat anyone when her service return is working. She can also lose to lower-ranked players when it's not.
Watched this match live. It was a really super high quality match… lots of unreturnable winners from both players. Osaka didn’t play badly but Garcia was in the zone, hitting unbelievable shots off both wings.
lol Garcia seems to play way better when going against Naomi😭. Very close match and Naomi definitely could’ve won this, but Garcia just did better in crucial moments. Curious on how Naomi will do on Clay!!

Great match. Both played well. Osaka had her chances but these are the types of matches she needs. Garcia really stepped it when she had to.
Osaka showed real grit today but against such a strong opponent it just wasn't enough. Garcia's all round and high risk game is a pleasure to watch. The level was incredible after the rain delay.
Caroline...what an awesome hitter. Just can't seem to string together that high caliber throughout and entire tournament. Same with Cirstea.

Best match of the tournament. Where is this quality of tennis when Caroline is in front of Iga or Sabalenka?
Garcia is 3-2 against Sabalenka, having won their last three matches. She's 1-4 vs Swiatek, taking their match in Warsaw and losing the last two in three sets. She also has an even H2H (2-2) with Gauff and Pegula.

So happy to watch this match, two of my favorite players, two of the biggest talents with some of the most elegant serves and shot making. I do think they both belong in top 10.
Now Garcia in the next round will lose to a lower ranked player in straight sets. 😅

Naomi made her hurt her shoulders but she still won.
Osaka will be grandslam champion again and again. I saw many chances of her finishing points earlier, she is work in progress. More matches, more confidence n she would conquer them all. Just remember she is only just back.

This is their THIRD meeting already this year an we're only in March! It's 2-1 Garcia in 2024 so far and all three matches are amazing!
After watching her at Indian Wells and Miami, it's obvious that Naomi Osaka is back! Caroline Garcia was just too good yesterday. Osaka is serving big, and hitting huge off the ground. That's the key for her. She just needs to keep playing and getting in better match shape. Eventually, she'll get better stamina and get in better shape. That takes time. Everyone can't come back after having a baby and be great right away like Kim Clijsters. But i'm convinced that Osaka will win more slams. She just has to get in better shape and stay hungry. It'll be interesting to see how she does in Europe, away from her daughter for an extended period of time.
Naomi's main problem atm is her return of serve, obviously Garcia is a great server but still too often the return is landing too short or too slowly and it allows her opponents to dictate play
is this a new thing? i don't recall her serve or return of serve being like that. was very surprised.
Her main problem physically is her weight and lack of fitness.
Her main problem mentally is a permanent one, it's called delusions of grandeur.
Naomi is looking great. When Garcia plays like that, she can beat anyone.

Her movement also isn't that good right now. I feel like her footwork especially was an underrated aspect of her slam runs.

I've only seen highlights but Naomi looks much better. She beat top 20 Svitolina and had chances to beat Garcia. I think it's mainly about confidence and practice/more matches to get back to top.

This is what makes it difficult to dominate in this era than the past decades. The top 100 is littered with so many Ostapenko's, Garcia and many others who have the talent to be top 5 players, but lack consistency. If they are having a good day, it's almost impossible to beat them.

@terancetheindomitable9701 I guess you didn't watch the 2017 French Open finals, and some other matches where Ostapenko didn't self destruct. She's very inconsistent, but when she's in the zone, she would hit you off the park. She's very powerful and can easily hit winners

@@kofipokuantwi-boateng5446 I absolutely did watch the 2017 French Open. She also got lucky in that final that Halep had to play like three days in a row because of rain. That was also 7 years ago, and she has no other significant titles. She got hot for one tournament. To use that as an argument that she's unstoppable when she's playing great is silly. Sloane Stephens won a US Open and got to the finals of the French Open, so you could say she's unstoppable when she's hot. I'm not saying she's trash. She's a good player, but she ain't unstoppable. She wins some matches; like every other player in the top 10.

Undoubtedly top-flight clash even though it was the third round. In fact, Garcia is really a resourceful and adroit French tennis player. Howver, she hustles at some points and portions of the showdowns in order to complete the points. She must customarily be more patient to end up the points with her dictation against the powerful rivals. She is capable of toppling the top competitors.

Remained to be seen if Osaka will ever reclaim the top spot in women tennis again. Lots have happen since she took maternity leave. Sabalenka has found her serve, Rybakina has arrived, and Iga seems to be winning a lot recently. I hope she is fine with losing matches, since she always claim that her mental health is more important than anything else. At this rate, she will take a beating from most of the top girls who occupied her place after she decided to give tennis a break months ago.
There was a lot wrong with that match point but it worked for Garcia. It was a suicide approached shot. She approached on a deep shot from Osaka and there was nothing in it except for pace. It was short and it landed around Osaka's hitting zone. Osaka made a mess of the passing shot. Garcia's punch volley from the service line, though!

A fantastic match. Maybe the best I've seen from Garcia since 2022. Good to see Osaka progressing well, getting back into the groove of playing top tier WTA ball. Her serve was lit today, but Garcia's was as well.
