The logic behind some of these GM's given their franchises situations is just mind boggling. 100 mil+ to Otto Porter a year before a major free agent class. 40 mil a year to Wall before testing the trade market and vastly underachieving the year before. Signing Dwight Howard to an already dysfunctional locker room. I mean what's the qualifications here ?
The wizards are dysfunctional no smart team would sign Wall or Porter for that type of money. The Mihimi deal was stupid on so many levels.

A lot of blame on the players, but if you ask most Wizards fans they're pointing the finger at the GM, and have been doing so for the longest time. The DC GM, who's had one of the longest tenure as a GM in the NBA but has had a losing record throughout - and DC has a top5 payroll, but are one of the 5 worst teams right now. That shows that they can blow up the team if they want, but they'll end up at the same place again in a couple years. Just look at the DC GM's draft pick records - aside from the no brainers he picked, all of his picks have been busts and almost all are no longer in the NBA - so I wouldn't trust that GM with even draft picks. The problem's the GM and the overall organization culture. Wall and Beal have done much better than expected throughout their tenure there if you factor those things, and honestly have had much of their pre-prime and prime wasted in DC, so they're better off in some other organization. I'm sure they'll welcome a trade.
Everyone forgets the shots Wizard players took at Wall when he got hurt last season, now they expect him to ‘galvanize the troops’. Smh.
If you think about what a franchise point guard leader suppose to have:
- Gets everyone going
- Everybody likes & respects
- Sacrifice their own stats to make the other guys better
- Play real defense so others will follow

I have an honest question that may be silly or stupid: Do most NBA players really care about making it to the playoffs/finals as long as they get paid? I imagine it's easier for a player w/ a lucrative, guaranteed contract to just make sure they keep their numbers relatively high?

Like Beal said, "it starts at the top". The real problem is Grunfeld but no one puts the blame on him as much as he deserves. They might briefly mention him but no one in the nat'l or local media attacks him for sabotaging this franchise for the past 15 years!! Grunfeld has consistently been making bad decisions for this team whether its bad draft picks, trading draft picks for cash considerations or handing out bad contracts that has created a losing culture. Sure there's been some success (if you call getting bounced in the 2nd rd of the playoffs and never seriously being a title contender success) but theres never been sustained success to develop a winning and healthy culture. Grunfeld had never been a winner and never will be.
