    Hey dude, couldn't let that go unnoticed, but that was just one video I watched out of curiosity and man, your charisma - I don't subscribe vey deliberately - I had to subscribe to your channel solely based on the way you talk, it's so down to earth, dynamic and honest, some people just have that flaire, and you definitely do! Keep it up man, Just wanted to get that out there! :)

    I have been watching your videos for a little while now and I'm very impressed with the way you simplify things for us. If I could make a request it would be video on compression. I know it's not a simple thing to teach but maybe you could help us rap our heads around it. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    How much of the improvement was the isolation and how much was due to the elevation? You get a totally different treble/mid signature when you lift the tweeter a bit - especially near-field like small studio monitors.

    absolute cheapest option if your monitors were boxed with styrofoam protective inserts, you can put them in that, not sure if it's the best material for the purpose but it will at least give some separation.

    1. Foam with speakers on the desk

    3. Short stands on the desk with speakers
    4. Stands with speakers off the desk with foam in-between stand and speaker.

    I know this is going to sound stupid, but can I use towels under my Monitors? I just got a pair of M Audio BX8 D2's today and they sound amazing. But since they have no feet and didn't come with a pad, I put them directly on my desk. No my room is not "properly treated", but I could hear them vibrate against the desk when I would play music with heavy bass.
    So should I just keep using towels under my speakers until i get some pads? or should I use some of those stick on feet things? (the ones with adhesive on the back and you can use them for feet for stuff. ) Do I even need pads?

      You can't just use any foam, it has to be thick dense open cell foam that absorbs the frequencys and vibrations emitting from the speaker. You can get good quality acoustic open cell foam for reasonable prices online from reputable sources.
      There is lot's of company's selling closed cell foam which is a big no no to use under a speaker. As they bounce the sound back up muddying the sound plus cause vibrations.

    i have the primacoustic pads. i got them 3 weeks after my newest set of monitors (because the store sold the ones that were on hold for me...) so that gave me some time to get to know the monitors before i stuck pads under them. they sounded clearer after i put the pads there, but wasn't completely sold on it. then i took the pads away just to see what would happen. i was disgusted by what i heard.

    • @C--A
      @C--A Před 4 lety

      A pillow under bookshelf speakers would have minimal sound absorption and do nothing for vibrations. The decoupling effect would be close to zero for the speakers.
      The guy in the video could of explained better how the acoustic foam actually works for you and the novices out there. I'm clued up and instantly noticed he didn't even mention it has to be dense open cell foam you use.
      Never to use closed cell foam as it will bounce the sound back up towards the speakers muddying the sound. And the thicker the dense open cell foam used the better as it gives better sound absorption.

    Save yourself some money. lay down 4 layers of big bubble bubble pack. get a 1/4 or 3/8 inch steel plate cut to the size of the speaker base. double side tape the speaker to the plate set it on the bubble pack and listen to the HUGE DIFFERENCE. the plate reduces the driver moment of inertia to almost nothing at normal listening levels. Higher volume will require a thicker plate or one on the bottom and one on the top.

    • @amanieux
      @amanieux Před 8 lety

      +newburyportvideo seems like a good idea, did you try a blind test with a friend (with/without isolation pads), this isolation theory does not make much sense otherwise every speaker manufacturers would add some isolation at the bottom of their speakers cabinets.

  • @TheMikaeler
    @TheMikaeler Před rokem +2

    I'm sorry, but... BS! If you're in the field of audio, mixing etc... then maybe you should learn the basics first before telling people about BS products. I am 52 years old and I've been working in studios, TV broadcasting etc. etc... for over 30 years, and I unlike you know my audio. Guess what; Speaker cabinets are BUILT TO NOT VIBRATE, and any decoupler will DO NOTHING to the audio (well maybe because the speaker will be lifted up a bit), it is all placebo! Don't believe me? Put a glass of water on top of your speaker cabinet and pump up the volume, really loud. You won't see any vibrations if the speaker is normal/well built. Also, if you have such crappy monitors that will vibrate (they are then faulty), the vibrations would be drowned/masked by the super loud audio the woofers make. And so there you have TWO strong reasons to rethink what you believe. How stupid are people these days???

    • @alp6181
      @alp6181 Před rokem +2

      @TheMikaeler Před rokem +2

      @@alp6181 It shouldn’t matter that much. Feel free to do a video with a glass of water and a db meter in the same shot. You would not answer if you knew I am right. I believe you’ve aleeady tested it. So comeon, teach your viewers the truth. You kind of have that responsibility. I don’t care about who’s wrong or right, only the truth matters.

    • @karu6111
      @karu6111 Před 8 měsíci

      I'm extremely skeptical of this as well. Mainly because don't just objects resonate regardless of contact? Since sound is just vibration in the air anyway. I'm probably still buying the cheap ones tho, mainly because I am cutting my table shorter, I need 'em to angle the speakers.

    • @karu6111
      @karu6111 Před 8 měsíci

      Okay, I did my own very crude experiment(on a set of cheap near-field desktop speakers), well I just lifted one speaker while it's playing. The rumbles underneath my table did go away. As for the sound, I can't tell, something is still muddy in mine. Might just be speaker placement(one speaker is close to a corner wall.)
      I guess that's enough for me to justify buying one as I find the rumbles annoying.
