  • Awake Show #21 - Today my Dad (Sigis) is gonna make some Custom DIY Monitor Isolation Pads.
    We had all the materials at home, but it's roughly around 5$ in total:
    2x Tiles
    Sturdy Foam
    Cardboard
    Soft, Skin Type of Material
    SprayPaint
    Rubber Glue
    +Tools to Cut the material
    I'm sure you can find this junk laying around? Or maybe just ask your neighbors if they can help you out. :)

    Why would you use tile? That is terrible for sound absorbtion.

    Good idea and nicely executed....BUT you have a glass desk and speak about sound quality ?????Seriously

    I think the foam alone is enough and looks better. But I like the logo idea!

    Nice idea and I'm all for DIY projects but you're using a thin glass surface which is bound to resonate even with the pads AND the listening position is super wrong. You're supposed to sit at a point of an equilateral triangle with the speakers at the other points. Meaning distance from you to each speaker, to each speaker is the same otherwise your stereo field is messed up.

  • @kickskii

    Ok I took this idea and made my own
    Only difference i did was i used layers of different types of compressible foam to avoid resonance as well as using MDF hard board instead of using a tile as I read that would be more appropriate to absorb vibrations
    The difference is immediately noticable and the music is so much cleaner before it was booming a lot making the audio muddy sometimes

    Eliminate the bottom board and it will work a lot better. Also, tell your dog to stop doing that or it will go blind.

    The contact point of the speaker should be foam, not tile or wood... Fail.

      Correct it's a poor execution not thoroughly researched and planned out. The tile will only bounce the frequencys emitted from the speaker back up towards the speaker muddying the sound and causing vibrations.
      Also the foam used has to be open cell foam as that absorbs the frequencys. If he used closed cell foam that will bounce the frequencys back up towards the speaker again muddying the sound and causing vibrations.

    I used Yoga foam atop of the mopads foam, i need the height. They bite each other and do not need any other material like glue etc. And they're lightweight, which is matter because my desk cannot handle heavies.
    Your idea to put a tile atop the mopads foam is good, will lost a lot of bass if you just used it without something hard.
    I used HS5, is that HS5 too ? in the video.

    I neeed some to put under my bed feet. Old place problems. What do you think is better, your high density foam solution or cork sandwiched between two rubber pads? (I need 16 pieces and I refuse to pay for them already done. It would be 60 bucks)

  • @C--A
    @C--A Před 4 lety +2

    A for intuitive but you should really have done a lot more research before starting the project. The foam needs to be open cell foam as that obsorbs the frequencys, if you used closed cell foam that's useless as it doesn't obsorb the frequencys. It bounces the frequencys back up to the speaker muddying the sound and causing vibrations.
    Also don't stick tile on the foam as that will also just bounce the frequencys emitted from the speaker back up towards the speaker. Muddying the sound and causing vibrations, leading to a very poor quality sound quality from your speaker's.
    My DIY set up on my speaker stands is much better. Just a custom size 50mm thick acoustic open cell dense foam that stops vibrations and absorbs frequencys from 60hz upwards. On top of that 4 platinum cured proprietary silicone isolation feet that reduce vibrations by 95%.

    • @404MissingLink
      @404MissingLink Před 4 lety

      There is no open cell foam invented that can absorb as low as 60hz with any efficiency. Even rockwool will only be 90% efficient to 500hz. I’d love you to prove me wrong because I’d buy some today

    • @MacetazzOpina
      @MacetazzOpina Před 4 lety +1

      @@404MissingLink i can actually prove you wrong, 4 inch rockwool in A type mounting with 4 inch of airspace has a sabine absorption of 1 in 125 Hz
      this has been debated to death by people like ethan winer and others on several acoustics forums, check some numbers in the porous absorber calculator if you don't believe it or check out Bob Golds absorbing coefficient website

    • @MacetazzOpina
      @MacetazzOpina Před 4 lety

      @@404MissingLink does this mean that foam works? probably not. Does this mean that rockwool can go way below 500hz? yes
